Sorry bud, that's racism. (According to merriam-webster at least)

Macquarie Dictionary's definition of Racism is as follows...
Racism: n. 1. The idea that ones own race is superior and has the right to rule or dominate others. 2. Offensive or aggressive behavior to members of another race stemming from such a belief.
So, do you recall myself sayin' that Germans are a better race of people than Canadians?
And if you needed to consult a dictionary to see whether or not I was being racist then I think you don't have a clue what you're talkin' about...

I'm just wondering how far apart geographically someone needs to be before they're considered a different race by the esteemed academicians of Champion server. Honestly, I'm hoping it's really minimal because there's this white guy next door I'd really like to be a bigot against but we're apparently the same according to the census. I don't see how that's possible what with him blasting Foreigner and Journey at all hours. I can't even hear my Lil Wayne over all that noise. And don't even get me started on his weak-*** rims...
Agreed, Champion has become very non-PUG. Some day in the future when all those of a different mind have moved to a different server it'll just be the core of Champion left, and when that happens I'd consider it a good thing.

That's actually kinda scary imo; diversity ain't a bad thing, really.
Now I keep seeing the mass of conformists... one of us, one of us. Champion would be zombieland.
While it's handy to have people on the server easily accessible via channels, I haven't really the feeling that there is an abundance of non-PuG-ness.
Do many people actually have a dissociation with PuGging? Like, do many not respond to tells asking to join a team or give an excuse if they don't recognize the name/global of the person asking? I surely don't. I'll join if I can/ am able and I'll almost always respond, regardless.
I see nothing wrong in using /sea and asking a few random people to join. Nor do I mind being asked.
As to the OP, the server has it's up and down days. There have been quite a few newbies in the last few months. If they are staying is another matter, but I see a fair number of newer accounts in the lowbie zones.
Sometimes I get a bit surprised at the number of people that are on /hide. It's their chioce, but I dont' see the point to do that incessently.
Furthermore, as to Mighty's post - Nations are not races. Race is determined by geographical genetics as a blanket statement to that.
One can be prejudiced against a category of people, or just one person, but that's not racism, necessarily.

RUSSELL PETERS (WHOLE WORLD MIXING)
"its nice you know a different mix of audience like this...this type of thing wont be able to happen in 300 years from now..you realize there will be no more white people, no more black people, everyone is going to be beige...eventually we are going to be a hybrid mix of Chinese and Indian..they are the largest populations in the world..so you can run from us now but sooner or later we're gonna hump you ..and I'm thinking if we're gonna mix anyways. we should start mixing now."
OK Dinah, THAT was kinda funny.
I want to put my 2 cents in. I LOVE this server. More now than before. Why? Because I've gotten to know MORE ppl just by getting out there and making an effort. I'm not saying the OP hasn't done that. I'm only saying what has worked for me. We moved to Champion almost 4 years ago and I do not foresee us leaving any time soon. There are tons of great players here. And I know I've still got plenty of room on my global.
OP, Get on BMT and UHB Network. You'll find those missing people you were looking for.

What I do mind is the invite with no want to team/ want to run some arc/papers in X zone.
As with you lad, I do try and respond to a tell when I get it. There are times I am working on something and I dont see it on my screen (sorry no sounds 80% of the time)

It's not that lively outside of social groups. Seriously, I only got onto BMT recently. For those without BMT who do not enter the forums, where is the action? Many of those in the long-established social circles can become comfortable with those folks, form teams with ease. Because they have those connections.
But odd as it seams, the best way to build a server community is look outside the established community, pick up the odd stranger with the 'lft!' flag. Spare slot? Search the team finder window before BMT. -And talk with them, to them, not just your buds. I know it's a bit 'riskier,' as this goes into the PuG territory, but it does help those joining up or starting up to find company and start to get a feel of who plays around here...and you wouldn't believe how far a little civility and kindness from a stranger go to making a player's time more fun, and keeping them involved in a server. -Seldom |
It wasn't through this forum, or an old friend.
I was on a random PuG that ended up Trick or Treating,
And we were all having a ton of fun.
Then someone (Saffron I think?) said that they had to go do -Some-TF-or-Another-
And I asked "SG Obligation?"
And she said "No, BMT"
I was confused, so I asked and I got an invite from one of the other people in the PuG. (I forget who at the moment, I'm sorry)
Unrelatedly: What is this UHB?

Ditto, if I get a tell and I actually see it (not inventing, etc) I always try to respond politely to decline, or accept. I can't count the number of times someone has thanked me for just responding and letting them know that someone was living at the other end.
|
I'm in the same boat there, unless its a completely retarded tell (Looking for a farm team? Or the like) I'll always respond, and when I do I generally get a "Thanks for replying" type of message as well.
Idk why, but it gives me a warm-fuzzy feeling (Oh, the Cheese!) like when you give someone a present that they absolutly love.

Is someone from Toronto a different race than someone from Ontario?
|
No. But from Montreal, then I'd have to say yes.
Personally, I don't like racism. Well, not on the oval tracks at least. I'm more of a road course person. (Which always surprised me that President Clinton had so much problem with weight with all the Rhodes work he was supposed to do.)
Und Ya. Dat vas funny. You vill be laughing now!

I actually try to do this quite often. Generally, my teams are a mix of SG mates, my global friends, BMTers and mystery meat from Search. I usually check the globals of people I'm teaming with, and if it's one I don't recognize sometimes I'll check if they're in BMT or not. I try to keep an eye out for new players, as well as vets in this position. Ultimately, I'd hate to see people wandering around thinking no one plays the game when there's a very active community on Champion if you know where to find it.

I would also say Join Amy if you can, they do have fun (at least they do when I ran with them - I am not the source of all of the fun).

1) Server dead? No. Quite busy...and its not hard to break into the communities like BMT or UHB. Just ask. Of course folks unaware of their existence wouldn't know who to ask. Sadly though some treat channels like BMT as an extension of zone broadcast.
2) Racism? An I am an academic, tyvm, so I'll say this. The idea of 'race' as defining group 'a' as seperate and distinct from group 'b' doesn't exist in academia any more as its a vestige of older ideas from a time when 'race' was almost used to mean 'different species'. Define your terms. If you use 'race' to mean 'a member of a group of people who are phenotypically different significantly from another group' then yeah, race exists as a broad and loose category. Very broad and loose. Like a drunk girl in a frat house.
Saying 'The French are better than the Germans' (or vice versa) wouldn't actually be racist as, phenotypically, nothing distinguishes the one from the other. It's just arrogantly francocentric. People are people no matter where you go--we all sh*t (except Cherry who creates magical baked goods) and we all bleed (except Elf who possesses something less like blood and more like WD40 mixed with vaseline), and we all drop mistells (except me who never ever misstells).
Yeah, having almost everyone on only a few channels would be great, I think the problem is most of the people who aren't on the forums and stuff like casual players just aren't aware of BMT.
The obvious solution is for the BMT Ops to go stand in Atlas Park and blind invite everyone they see to the channel
