Vanguard Outfit Price ...
The Vanguard costume pieces cost is horrible. I've mentioned it before, and I'll keep requesting for it to be lowered.
100 merits should unlock ALL the pieces. Maybe 150. The HVAS and other little gadgets already cost an ok ammount. They could even include a few new temporary powers. But the current cost is ludicrous. The only one that isnt too bad is the chest option, which not only unlocks the vanguard top but also the two chest details. Compared to the helmet, which is about 350 for three parts...mad. |
It costs more merits to buy Vanguard pants (not even Impervium-armored pants, just pants) than it does to buy a gun.
|
I can purchase the chest armor, which comes with two chest details in addition to the chest texture for 50 merits, and I can purchase those wicked Talso- err, "Vanguard" blades or a Redding Rifle for a mere 100 merits. But I have to pay 200 merits for a texture that can be used for - what? - two categories of leg wear? Outrageous! IMHO, it should cost the same as the chest items.
lol, beancounters FTW, by offering the shiny weapon carrot, they can save a whole helluva lot by making sure the hero and villians take the brunt of the assualt compared to thier expensively trained and outfitted regulars.

Blackmith: "Thank you, hero, for saving my daughter, defeating the monsters destroying my shop, freeing my wife from the demon who possessed her and clearing out the mines from trolls so that I can get iron again. But don't expect any discounts! I will still sell items at ten times their actual cost and buy them from you for nothing more than pocket change. End of the world or no end of the world, I have a business to run. I'm sure you understand. Now, go hop down that hole into hell and defeat the devil. Good man!"

As for the topic at hand, I'm going to say once again that the prices for Vanguard pieces are absurd. It's a costume set. Why do I have to work at it for weeks? The powers I can see, but the costume pieces? I'd say either slash their prices significantly, or bundle them up in the same expensive purchase. 250 for the whole set is still a lot, but reasonable to actually GET on more than one character.

Yes, ship raids are the way to go, but start by joining Vanguard at level 35. Then, EVERY Rikti you fight has a chance to drop a merit, whether street hunting in FF/PI or regular (non-RWZ) missions.
It's like filling a bucket with an eyedropper, sure, but every little merit helps, right?

But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

This is the only Vanguard costume part that I have a problem with in regards to price.

For example, what if we got a reward window at the end of Dark Watcher's arc:
Claim Reward: - 18 Reward Merits - 180 Vanguard Merits |
/still pinning to go on a ship raid
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
Yes, I would very much like the ability to pick Vanguard merits instead of Merit mertis at the end of War Zone arcs. But, of course, I'm biassed, in that I have absolutely no use for Merit merits at all.

Rather than lowering the prices (ok, maybe lower them a bit) I'd prefer to see the drop chance increased for Rikti outside of a Ship raid. Currently it's about 10%, would it really be unbalancing for it to be say 30%?
I'd also like to see the Psi-bomb have its cost reduced. The other powers are reasonably priced but 150 merits for 3 bombs seems a little steep. I'd like to see it decrease to 100 or even 75. |

I pretty much agree. The costumes aren't expensive if you do raids, but they ARE expensive if you're trying to earn merits any other way. Increase merits earned outside of ship raids = problem solved.

I'm for both. Maybe one day I'll get to actually use the Vanguard armor on more than one character (who it doesn't suit, and is who I did the two or three ship raids with before deciding I didn't like 'em).

Well... I've returned to playing since stopping sometime around issue 6.
My highest level character is only 45 now. I've been running nothing but Borea missions since level 42/43 and I'm still only on shoulder piece and wrist costume pieces. I've got 100 now towards the 500 sack (which I assume is 10 more salvage to my inventory).
Sounds like I have the rather dull job of doing nothing in this game except run Vanguard missions from where I am now (45) to 50 just to get enough merits. Is that how this game is meant to be played now? That's more farming than I have to do ever in the game I've just left (cough... wow... cough)
Suggestions?
PS: I've seen someone suggest "ship raids". I've never done any TF missions and have no idea what a ship raid is. Nor have I seen anyone ever advertising one in all the time I've been trying to gain merits.
PPS: I'm not capable of taking on much more than 4 critters at a time either (ice/ice blaster focusing on holding ppl while taking one down). I can manage to get through a Borea mission set on +1 or +2 levels. But not even on -1 with multiple players set.

The merit gain from ship raids is huge compared to missions in general you should only need to do 3 or 4 raids for the entire costume (and 1 or 2 more for the sack).

If a ship raid is a regular event on your server, I reccomend it. Even if YOU dont kill as many Rikti, its what the team kills that gets turned into merits. No splitting, ever kill the team gets means 1 Merit for every member.
That might not sound like much. But 350+ Merits are common per raid, although it does vary with server and turnout.
Nice exp, inf and prestige too =]
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

the other option, maybe not as good as ship raids, but certainly more common on the server I play on, is the LGFT or Lady Grey Task Force. its 45+, and you'll probably rack up more Vanguard merits with a team doing that than you would doing missions solo.
@craggy see me on Union for TFs, SFs (please!) or just some good ol fashioned teaming.
but getting a ship raid on a low pop server is near impossible, or during a holiday event.
I also think the prices on some the items should be reduced. |
The prices are fine.

The full Vanguard set costs significant more than the most expensive gameplay perk - the salvage storage increase. That's just incredibly backwards, IMO.
