They are your "reputation." It means very little.

Anonymous forum feedback, called Reputation, and granted via the balance scales below those colored blocks.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

It is an on-going struggle in online communities. People being offended by statements that have nothing to do with them. People being offended 'on behalf' of a group they don't actually belong to. Watchdogs who blow their whistle at the first sign of perceived intolerance (or ironically... Bohemia).

I would not worry about it.
With your statement whats to stop people from reporting others who said before in the post someone who said peanutbutter and jelly?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing is stopping them from reporting you. However, the GMs would then look at the chat logs, and see that there was nothing that broke the EULA, or even came close to it.

If you would take the time to read the many comments made to tell you how it was offensive, then you would know.

ANYONE CAN FIND OFFENSE IN ANYTHING!

It's not up to you to determine if people can or can't be offended. Just like it's not up to you whether or not a GM gives you a warning.

Many examples of how it could have been seen as offensive were given. If you are expecting a GM to give you the exact reason, then you don't know anything about corporate business.

And why do you assume it has anything to do with the word "gay?" You seem to be pressing it as if YOU known for a fact that it is.

What if anyone of another religion found the comment about "God" offensive. I mean, the game is ruled by the laws of the U.S. You've heard about the separation of Church and State? I'm sure you know that in recent years, public speaking about religious beliefs has been toned down to keep others of a different religion from being offended.

Wait, there's that word again... offended.

Once again, the C O N T E X T of what was said may have been missed. You can either 1.) continue on with a rant that no one but yourself believes in or 2.) drop it, move on, and play the game and learn from your actions.

I suggest going the route of teh 2nd option.
Hello! No one could manage to tell me how it was offensive. How can I learn from my 'mistake' if I have no idea what I did wrong. And in response to your people in the US straying away from using religious beliefs in speeches to keep others of a different religion from being offended is an outright lie. Most people in politics only got to become a senator or what have you was because they claim to be good hearted Christian.

I'd like to add that the warning also included something I said in team chat and I'm pretty sure I know who sent it. I think it was a guy I kicked for almost killing the main AV while someone was logging back in from a DC. I'm most upset that it had NOTHING to do with actually being offended.

The only person who's going to be able to tell you is the person who reported you. You see, you've given us full context of the event, from you point of view of course, so of course we're not going to be able to answer that question definitively. Keep in mind that the person who reported you may have mistook your comment as a slur against gays. Or bashing religion.

There's just no telling what goes on in the heads of others. Given some of the encounters I've had in the game, I can tell you that sometimes very little is going on.

Don't take the warning as a disciplinary action. Think of it more as the GMs politely saying, "Hey, just so you know, someone found that offensive. You may want to think twice the next time you want to say something similar to that."

Nothing whatsoever. However, in most communities (at least in the ones I moderated) frivolous reporting has its own penalty. In the end, people will usually hit the report button for one of a two reasons:

* They feel offended by something. (Whether this offense is intended or warranted isn't a factor.)

* They think that someone else WOULD be offended (and they choose to be a busy-body)

If a moderator reads a report and sees that something COULD be misunderstood and thinks you should be more careful he's probably going to warn you to be more careful and then move on down his list. If he sees that someone is reporting something frivolous and has just wasted his time, he should warn the person who made the report instead. Sometimes he might actually do both.

If you can't explain the harassment how is it harassment?

I actually thought this was going to be a troll thread just from the title. Even if it is a quote, taken out of context, it can sound quite offensive. So I can see how it might upset someone.

If this is your second offense as you say, I'd be much more careful choosing words for broadcast.

Already answered by Cat and Dumple (IIRC) -

That's reputation people have assigned to you on this forum and is basically meaningless.

Unfortunately, its not limited to just online communities.

There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"

Without getting into a flame-baiting conversation on a topic that includes the word "God" and "gays," that's the best explanation you're going to get. In a country where everyone gets offended all of the time and "Political Correctness" abounds (assuming your in the States) you should know this.

OP: Did you consider that the person doing the reporting may not have cared in the slightest about the word "gay", which you have mentioned numerous times, and instead the use of the word "God"? One could claim that you took the name of God in vain, which some religious people find VERY offensive.

Short version: You used a word that gets blocked by the language filter in a public channel. This IS a petitionable offense. Whether we agree or not.
