Try the same build against non s/l AVs and without mobs to buff SD/Invinc and the tune will not be so pretty. Invulnerability is anything but invulnerable when it comes to non s/l damage and the set relies heavily on invincibility to survive any serious incoming non s/l damage.

If you retune the build to handle non s/l damage, you could probably get similar results however.
This build might be ok for multiple AVs on a wider spectrum;

Holy cow. That's friggin' scary awesome stuff there.

...

So, when do we get to see a Scrapper solo a round dozen AVs?

Posted

I wish that this game were more solo friendly. Seriously, I figured when I was still running around as a minion that yes, I'd need two friends to equal one frikkin' hero running around. I can accept that.

And when I finally make it to Lt. status, and I expected to finally be able to solo a hero yeah, I got my butt kicked. By hey, the game is hard.

So I was thrilled when I got to boss status. Sure my average wasn't great, but I got to agro a few times on blasters engaged with groups of my friends, and occasionally pounding some hero's running on yellow SOs. And when I was running around in early AE missions hitting unprepared players with Build Up? It was all worth it. Heck, I even got assigned to an Arcanaville arc. Good times, good times.

But this is crazy. I worked hard to get the Elite Boss / AV status. Every now and then some Hero would forget to adjust their difficultly and I'd get to pound on them solo as an AV. I mean, I'm not so egotistical that I can handle losing to some build that is IOed to the teeth. I understand some Masterminds will come romping through the place, or those annoying flying blasters with capped ranged defense.

But the game was mostly soloable. At worse I'd need to grab help from Marauder or something.

This, however, is ridiculous. I worked hard to get to AV status. Now you are telling me that me and *8* of my buddies can't bring down one hero? Come on. I realize we are heavy on S/L damage but this is ridiculous.

When are the devs going to nerf this Nihilii guy? I mean seriously, stick him over in the Defender area. Not those damage and control heavy DDDs or Kins either. I mean like Mind/Emp or something. Or just nuke this guy's IOs. Hmmm. Maybe I'll start the "No IOs for Nihilii" union. If I can get the Praetorians on board, we can organize a strike right as Going Rogue is coming on line. Yeah, that should get some Dev attention...

According to the devs, the EvP game is balanced around you taking on six to eight standard players with SO slotting. The Master of Nihilii challenge was designed to be very difficult to complete. Some AV builds may be more effective at this challenge, and not all AV teams will be equally successful. This is working as intended.

Your buddies need to stop playing nothing but damage classes and actually play some support. Might I suggest making friends with a Cold/Psi custom AV? :P

ROFL.

That's seriously awesome.

And OP, very well done!

I'm impressed with the expense some people can afford. Alot of people just do not have the time or inclination. Great to know it can be done however.

Hahaha, nice "EvP" banter. Hilarious.

I think it was more for things like "solo-tanking the Hamidon while AFK," which is a bit more impressive for a damage AT with no IO's.

funny how money always seems to come up on things like this.
If you're just mainly looking at the pvp IO's and the puprs, then you might wanna look for Aliana's build which has taken on 7 AV's without those. A build that would fall under as cheap as dirt in my pocket

Posted

Yeah, build prices are a version of the old 80-20 rule, 80% of the performance at 20% of the cost. Except that in City of Heroes, it's more like 95% of the performance for 5% of the cost. Spending billions for those last few percentage points isn't required, and a better builder would get another 10% performance at no extra cost. It's actually kind of embarassing for me to be running around with PvP IOs. I KNOW I could have done better for cheaper, even if I don't know how. Spending billions can be an admission that you're out of ideas, which I was.

Now somebody sell me a Panacea proc for dirt cheap. I done bought myself into the poor house, and I still gots holes in my build.

you can have your stinkin Panacea just as soon as I get me the Glad's +3 defense. :P Speaking of which, how did you ever manage to get one of those, my bid has been sitting there for like a week now.

Edit: The most I've waited on to get an IO is 2-5 ........ seconds....

I started bid creeping on both the recipe and the crafted IO when I decided I was going to IO out, well before I hit fifty. The final price was 1.96 billion, and it probably took a month for my bids to creep up to that point and for one to be accepted. Looks like you could get a recipe now for just over 1.5 billion. Guess I bought at the peak. At least it's only play money.

Very impressive. Very impressive indeed.

But even after your impressive feat, I still think INV needed those buffs it got. At the very least, the removal of that -defense from using UY.

Except the OP has all stated this quite clearly himself.

And it's NINE AV's.

It's still an impressive feat imo.

nerf should only be brought into discussion when everyone is doing this. As it stands, such a small percentage of the player base is even at this level, why nerf? The game is fairly well balanced.

Top end performance has climbed rapidly over the past year or two, but this probably only affects a small fraction of a percent of the player base. When I'm leveling toons, they pretty much feel the same as they always did. I think this game wouldn't be much fun if I could take an SO'd and frankenslotted poorly-conceived build and go and solo nine AVs. I want normal play with normal characters to be challenging but fun. But I also like that with enough knowledge, effort and influence, crazy things are possible.

I sometimes forget that challenge is fun. This morning, I died a few times running a couple RWZ arcs on +2x8/bosses due to Arachnos defense debuffs and stacked Nemesis vengeance. I was being retarded, treating missions like farms, just running in and attacking randomly, and comparing my speed unfavorably to farming. And so it wasn't fun, and I was dying - this game sucks! Then I relaxed, slowed down, and started approaching spawns intelligently. Suddenly the game was fun again. Hard is good.

Yup, ran into the same thing this week.

I kept dying repeatedly because I was playing like an idiot and not having any fun. The dying was frustrating and led to me logging out in disgust. A couple days later I logged the same character in and played much more intelligently, died less, and had a lot more fun.

It mystifies me when I see people complaining that the game is too hard, or that the devs need to buff player characters to the point that dying is impossible. Why would you want a game that is THAT easy to play?

Pushing the same 5 or 6 buttons for hours on end with no thought involved would drive me absolutely bonkers. I rolled up another regen for exactly that reason. Your survival depends on you using your brain to determine the best time to use your heals, as opposed to SR or WP where you just pretty much wade in and trust your secondary to carry you through all by itself. Don't get me wrong, I like both of those sets, but there isn't much decision making going on while playing them.

Maybe it's just me, but I like things to be challenging but not impossible. Knowing that I could pull off a crazy feat if I use the right strategy or good timing retains my interest a lot more than just mashing buttons until I win.

Heh, great job Nihilii! I bet Actin will feel all inadequate now - being originally a spoiled valley girl, I bet she'll ask me for all the cool expensive toys I didn't give her when I redid her build, thanks for that !

Though for the looks of it, I'm thinking we'll see your "10 AVs at once" post soon enough, won't we?
