Not very easily is the answer - which is why I picked the flattest soled boots available in the costume creator - I like to be realistically unrealistic

Well then all praise to BABs, He who has given female toons the superpower of walking as if in 6inch heels while actually wearing flats.

So, to summarise, Walk is a much-requested "Power" that allows people to move their toons around at a sedate pace instead of looking like hamsters on uppers all the time. You can jump over low objects with it, but cannot activate any other powers because it is not intended for combat use.

If at some stage they ever get the chance/time/resources to create the many additional animations required for it (and that's a big IF), then they may do that which would allow Walking into combat all staunch-like and then kicking some butt.

The argument that it is a 'waste of resources' is incorrect, as no resources were assigned to it. It was created using 'spare time', that being time when unexpectedly the animation team had a little gap where they were waiting for another to team finish their part of a project.

Have we covered everything? Okay. Now get out there and strut your stuff!

By walking. Note, this would make one a crimefighter suited to particular criminals only.

However, I am going to assume that you were not here when they introduced Veteran Rewards. When they released the Veterans Rewards video, and it showed the characters walking down the street, you would not believe the outrage when the Devs told us that we would not be getting the ability to walk.

And the feature was oft requested before then, but, prior to that, we had never seen what were apparently player models walking.

Don't like it, don't use it. I know I won't. But I don't begrudge the fact that lots of players who wanted the feature finally got it. Some people don't care for Architect, or Power Customization, or Holiday Events. How would you feel if your own pet favorite feature got canned or rolled back because a bunch of Debbie Downers claimed that it was the "worst waste of Dev resources for the game, ever."

If you think the Devs are wasting too much of your time or money with "wastes of time" like the walk power, exercise your own power to walk away. Send them a polite e-mail about why you are dissatisfied, followed by a polite snail mail, and then unsub until they change their ways.

On the other hand, if you can accept that you won't like everything that everyone else seems to, and are willing to wait for the features you do want, nothing is preventing you from sending a polite e-mail to the Devs detailing some of the things you would like to see.

If you do decide to leave, don't tell us (well, don't bother telling me, I don't care beyond the lost subscription revenue), but definitely tell the Devs, and do it politely (Ragequits rarely see the desired results, and are easily dismissed as irrational).

You don't fight in 6 inch heels. You jump out of aircraft in 6 inch heels. You switch out of them to fight of course.

Also, there seems to be nothing wrong with using Walk while in combat.

Even better, what would s/he have done in the same situation? Typically, a designer doing something in their free time is not mandated by their employer. If it was, it wouldn't be, y'know, free time?

I'm sure HotFlash would prefer them hanging out at espn.com or posting inane remarks on Twitter rather than experimenting with things that might help advance their careers.

It's like the programmer in EQ1 who came up with the formula to do away with the hybrid xp penalty. Legend (as in, the accounts of his co-workers, not him) has it that he got the idea one night and when he came in to work, tried it out and lo and behold, it worked (until Luclin when that formula turned the former xp penalty into an xp bonus with the alternate advancement system). Nobody told him to find a solution (the company line was 'It's embedded too deep in the code to change') but they were perfectly happy to run with it once a solution was presented to them. People playing "pure" classes howled about how much of a waste it was and how 'overpowered' a hybrid would be without a penalty (admittedly, I was one of the howlers) but the fact remained that the solution was "free" as far as the company was concerned (besides formulating the test plan for QA).

So kudos to the person who came up with Walk. While it's not something I'd use regularly, it makes me hopeful that some other difficult features that are often requested can be done in a similar fashion.
