Thank You Veterans

I know we have a good number of service and ex-service folks on the server.

This year at Westminster Abbey was the first Armistice Day service without a WW1 veteran present.

There are 3 recognized WW1 Vets left alive, One English but Emigrated to Australia (also fought in WWII), one Canadian and one US Doughboy.

Personally that is a very sobering thought, that very soon the horror that was will have passed beyond living memory.

Absolutely, great deal of my family are army and navy vets. Thanks to them and all the other vets around the nation for everything you do in service to this country, no matter your stance on wars you hafta give it up for men and women willing to do whatever they can for our country. Bless and honor them on this day! =)

Ditto. I served but never got deployed anywhere. Want to thank all of those who served, especially in wartime and also more recently in the Mideast, including my younger brother, who will hopefully be back in time for the New Year.

We should also remember those at Ft. Hood who died or were injured. No matter how tragic it was, those that perished died in service to their country.

/salute

Indeed, thank you to all those who have served, will serve, and those who never made it home; your sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Veterans Day to me is for people like this young man whom I served with. I didn't know him other than seeing him in the unit during training, but the impact of his loss was, and still is, an immence slap in the head, heart and soul.

Sorry for the wall of text.

It is really hard to express how much we owe vets. There is one story that I look at as inspiration, and it is only because I have heard it in person. I was in AZ for a decade and John McCain went into detail about how he was returning stateside from Vietnam with little support from the general population, and how the gov of Cali, Ron R, met him, gave him homage, and inspired him. Was a huge turning point in why he went into a higher level of service. I'm a big democrat, not a McCain fan, but took to heart how important it is to recoginze, honor, and assist our vets in coming home. His sincerity was so powerful and heartfelt.

I know this is a little late datewise but all of us need to be there for our vets and the extra mile is really only one step.
