Soloing Secondary

Hi all,
After trying out dark armor, I've decided its just not for me. So I was wondering, whats a good secondary when it comes to soloing?

There are three types of people in this world: Those who can count and those who can't.

A lot of it depends on your own playstyle and how much money you have to invest in your toons. Your primary would also be a good thing to know. Some sets use good synnergy, like Dark Melee/Shield Defense.

All-around, i'd say that Willpower would be the best. It has great resists to most things, and those can be increased with IO's to great proportions. It also has a nice taunt aura that take your regeneration rate up bigtime.

Personally, I like Invulnerability. It has great resists, and a taunt aura that increases your defense for every enemy on you. It also has a heal in the form of Dull Pain, and a pretty good Tier 9, Unstoppable. It has a gaping Psi hole, but again, there are ways around that.

I've played a Brute with super reflexes, too, and unless you are able to softcap, it isn't overly formidable. If you -are- able to softcap, then it's great, just bear in mind that you won't be able to softcap until you have 7 of your secondary abilities, which can take a few levels.

Those are my three choices. I think that /Stone would be far too slow on solo, and although I love it to death, Fire Armor wouldn't be the -best- choice, even though it has a nice Endurance drain and a great Heal. It has as self-rez, too, so maybe fire would be the way to go? You weren't happy with /Dark though, so that's why I didn't post this one above.

I don't know much about Energy Aura, so i'll leave that to someone else, and I don't have enough experience with Electric Armor to tell you about soloing.

Hope this helps a little bit!

Love me or hate me, it's still an obsession.

Energy aura is actually not that bad, I just couldn't live with the sound that Energy Cloak makes so I deleted mine at 32 though. It's also not much of a team brute, stealth instead of a taunt aura but since you want to solo I guess that doesnt matter.

I would say SR is probably a better option. Any primary/SR will be awesome though elec melee has pretty naff single target damage so you might want to avoid elec.

Hands down, no holds barred, without a doubt the best soloing secondary in my opinion is Willpower. It has nice resistance and the teir 9 doesn't suck your end. Also with Fast Healing, Quick Recovery, Health, Stamina in addition to the rest of the regen powers you basically become an evil version of the energizer bunny. There have been plenty of times when I have watched other brutes face plant while my SM/Will just kept on going. It is by far my favorite secondary I have tried all of them with the exception of Shields (just can't come up with a non-lame concept).

For me one of the keys to soloing well is picking your enemies so they are weak against your strengths. If you are taking dark armor the Circle of thorns might have been your chosen group to pick on. Invulnerability you might want to stay away from the wailers.

Right on. For an all-around great brute secondary, its hard to beat Willpower. I've tried all the secondaries, and I've found that I like Willpower the most. IMO, it's excellent survivability and +end recovery make up for it's weak taunt aura and lack of a damage aura.

My SS/WP/Soul brute is an absolute beast, capable of streamrolling through +4/8-man Council missions solo (but I do have to use a lower setting for more difficult factions such as Malta and the Carnival). And although its certainly not a unique accomplishment, he's also soloed a Rikti Pylon.

For soloing most AV's, however, I'll still use my solf-capped FM/SR/Soul brute.

Elec/SR is fine unless you're soloing AVs, just set your solo mishs for several people and go to town with the AoEs.

It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba

This, my Spines/SR scrapper does great solo, just have to watch out for AV's. I imagine elec/SR would preform similarly.

All of them.

Some are more low level friendly then others. Dark, takes a while to come into it's own, but is VERY sturdy once you get the hang of it.

WP is easer starting secondaries. IMO, easy isn't nessessirly the best way to go if your wanting to learn the game... I started with a spine/invuln. Had to learn argo control and end managment. But i got the hang of it, and it started really clickin. (i forgot what board i was on... sorry brutes. LOL My first brute was a fire/invlun though... so it's still KIND of the same...)

I'd recommend worrying more about what feels fun to play. Cause once you get going, all secondary defences works just fine.

I have an Elec/SR thats almost 50 so I know a bit about adjusting the difficulty to suit the aoe focus of Elec.
I'm just saying that as a solo set dark melee, claws or fire is probably more optimal than elec.

For a secondary that will take you from 1-50 with minimal fuss and no real gaps, I'm gonna have to agree with /Willpower. Very user friendly and gives a little Def and a little more Resist added to some good healing.

It's nice ignoring Minions in a fight. Not because you have some AoEs to kill 'em off (which you probably will), but becuase they add to you're healing factor!

Willpower is probably the easiest and best secondary imo if you're going to grab some IOs.

SR is the easiest to softcap for defense if you're not going to use IOs.

Energy Aura, is what my new brute is, and she's fun. Haven't found her difficult yet, and come to think of it I need to buy her that 3% Defense IO today

Im going to disagree here with all the /WP, and say /Elec Armour.

It has a good self heal, infinite endurance, resistance to every damage type, slow resi and end drain/recov resists, and a damage aura.

While WP does better than Elec in the early game, around lvl 30+, Elec armour really takes off and does much better than /WP for soloing. And farming.
