Does the game seem empty to you ?

A lot of posters have used this as a jumping off point for some rant or other, usually to complain about the ae changes, so the question rubs some nerves a little raw. It tends to be coupled with a "this game is dying because i cant get a AE pl team anymore" If anything, the introduction of the ssk system has lead to teaming being a bit more open, so those who want a team can generally find a team without a lot of exemplaring and sidekicking jostling. I look foreward to the first christmas event without slogging through deep grey conning enemies because nobody wants a freaking challange.

Nah....
Here's the thing . . .

It's NOT that you asked a simple question.
It IS that you asked the same-old-question that gets asked again and again over and over and over.

People get tired of the question and get a bit slap-happy and jump on it.
I admit that your way was calmer than some.

Sometimes people say:
Doom!!! No one on anymore!
Doom!!! Start merging servers!
Doom!!! CoX must be dying!!!

But, Panicky or calm. People just keep popping up with this question.
More often sometimes, like now as people are working harder at school, or other seasonal things.

But the question keeps popping up... almost once a month or so.
It never really seems to turn out to be based on whether pop really IS down or not.
Just every few weeks someone decides they can't get teams lately, or something like that, and again, someone rings the GamePop bell all over again!

There were people claiming CoX was doomed and dying 5 or 6 months after release. And someone seems to decide pop is down and we need another thread about it, every few weeks.

The game would have been dead and a long ago memory several times over in the last 5 years if all these 'dying gamepop' threads had been true.

Simple question, maybe . . . but one that repetition has rubbed people a bit raw and sensitive about over the years.

.

A lot of the people that left for lower pop servers did it because they got sick of all the AE farms. They were having trouble finding teams for regular content.

That's a good thing because the other servers got a boost of players that like forming teams. It's also good because now that the AE has been fixed the people that just stood around waiting to be invited to AE farms actually have to learn to play the game and form their own teams.

Well, it looks like a leading question, not a simple question. As has been pointed out above, a lot of posters have advanced this exact claim to start a rant or to promote a specific agenda ("give me my PLing back -- or the game dies!" for example).

LOL if I want to cry doom about something I'll just damn well do it. I have said things would be problems in the past and there is nothing more satisfying than having been right and being in a position where you can crow about it.

Well from the above you don't fit into that group of people.

To the OP I've come back to the game more this fall, as I don't play much in the summer, and I've noticed a drop off since last spring.

From my perspective it appears that the drop is less during prime time, and most noticable during the mid-day, even on sat/sun.

Also from the servers I play on (Victory, Virtue, Guardian, Freedom) the drop appears to be greatest on Freedom and least on Virture. I can't commend on the other two and I only go there when my friends are online as they are so dead otherwise.

Shameless.

More accurately, you can say "It seems hot (or cold) TO ME."

Had he said that I would have passed on commenting. That makes it his opinion and he is entitled to his opinion.

For example: my suitemate is from Oregon, and sets his AC to full blast most of the time, claiming that the room is too hot and stuffy (75-80 degrees, with airflow). I've lived in Texas since I was 6, and I think the room is incredibly pleasant.

Bah. I'm from Chicago. 65 degrees is nice....

OP, I noticed it on double XP weekend too. I had to check to website to make sure I had the right weekend. I ended up moving my active toons to virtue and freedom, since the others are dead. I hope GR comes out soon, and is worth it to kick some of the tumbleweeds away.

Not really. I'd say it's an expected result of a game that's extremely instance-heavy. Over the last few years the game has focused more and more on instances rather than open-world content. Street sweeping is relatively rare now outside of the still-popular heroside sewers runs. Most people, especially from level 10 on, do missions now which means you don't see them out on the streets.

Multiple means of fast travel including Mission Teleporter, Base Teleporter, Market Teleporter, Base Telepads, Ouroboros Portal and Pocket D mean that fewer people are even in transit than they were before.

Fancy customizable Hide settings also allow people to cloak themselves from /searches (which were never all that reliable as indicators of population to begin with). All of this tends to lead to a perception of emptiness that's probably exaggerated. When the Halloween Event started, I saw a lot of people out and about getting their Banner badges in the open Apocalypse events in various zones.

Granted, not everyone much cares about badges, but give people a reason to be outside and you see a lot more people. I'm not trying to say that every server has Freedom's teeming masses, but I got all my badges on my main badge-hunters on Triumph, Infinity and Liberty in a single afternoon of play. Plenty of teams. So, to those people who like to claim servers are 'dead', well... it's not so.

Then don't go to AE.

Try actually looking for a Team.

This conversation is good, but how do you honestly feel about server mergers?

And please don't hold back any emotions haha.
