Does Anyone Still Use This Place?

I remember, pre-merge, the EU forums was always a lively, interesting and interested place. I remember having to check them several times a day to follow some threads which excited people - and that happened quite frequently. I loved the "Pop Culture" boards, which were bustling and relevant. I followed the Roleplaying boards because there was always something going on.

Stuff happened.

Nowadays, it's rare to see more than a few posts per day in this so-called "European Lounge" and it's not unusual for a day to pass in which no-one posts a thing.

I've already entered a cycle of logging in to the game and logging out a few minutes later because the fun drains out of me before I even choose a character. It doesn't happen often - because I don't want to bother logging in very often. On previous occasions when this has happened I always had the boards to entertain me and keep the embers glowing, but nowadays it seems this is dying down, too.

So what's happened? Has everyone just stopped using the "EU lounge"? Has the old community become swept up by the vast global forum? Or have people started to just drift away from the boards altogether?

I see very few familiar names in-game anymore, and I see very few on these boards, now. I'm just curious why (beyond any suspicions I may already have formed) that should be...

Just too many bugs on the current forum! There's a lot of features I like, but the login bug coupled with the BLOOATED form just makes it hard to keep up.

I mean, even the +1 posts are (almost) gone, because... oh, never mind! See you in GR or I17.... or more likely SW:TOR!

...I'm off!

I try to post as often as i can in the EU lounge though i do tend to stick to the general discusion section now too though. To liven things up we could create some old school EU threads if you want Get that EU feeling back baby yeah!

So what do we need?

  • A thread full of "doom"
  • A thread full of love
  • A thread for your achievements
  • A thread for random daily topics such as RL events [noticed theres an NFL thread in infinity i think? or another server! so lets have a similar one here!]
  • A back in the day thread
  • A thread discusing all the possible future upgrades to the game
Though i do agree with you, i do greatly miss the EU feel we all had. Though i feel like im slowly getting to know people on the global basis Plus the french forums are still a very warm and welcome place if you ever feel the need to feel some love, lovely bunch of people they are

@Damz Find me on the global channel Union Chat. One of the best "chat channels" ingame!

I think you're mistaking what the "European Lounge" is for - it's not a recreation of the Euro forums - you won't find the pop culture, RP, Creative or General Discussions here - they're carrying on in their own section, just like before, but now merged with the American versions of the same sections.

Both the "Lounge" sections here are just like a chatroom for that area of the world - ao all the stuff that went on before in the Euro sections is still going on in the new sections, and the Lounge is just to hang out and chat in.

Have to agree with GG. I spend my time visiting exactly the same sections of the boards I did before the merge. Only now there are new people posting there to learn the foibles of.

There are some very witty people amongst out colonial cousins. Maybe you should venture out into that vast global forum and try making new friends (as it were)? Think of it as going from Primary to Secondary school. Scary and overwhelming at first, but really rather exciting once you get used to it.

However, it turned out that Smith was not a time-travelling Terminator

No, GG, I'm not mistaking what the European Lounge is for: I'm lamenting the fact this is what it's become.

The sections beyond idle discussion, such as pop culture, have in some cases been pretty much destroyed by their absorption into the massive North American soup. Like it or not, although we share the same language we don't share the same cultural experiences on this side of the ocean that you do in North America.

It would be nice for the English speaking playerbase in Europe to enjoy parity with the French and German players. Am I mistaken in thinking that the French and German boards were transferred pretty much intact, and that it was just the English-speaking EU board that was mangled to fit the homogenized monster we have now?

But the difference is that the large majority of us can speak the english language whereas the french and german boards were in their respective languages [and thus got transfered over in that state].

Would it be fair to them to have a "french/german" sub forum like the european lounge in an english board?

Overall i do miss the wierd threads us EU players made "back in the day", but im happy too now that we can have a constant communication with the playerbase on a global level.

I probably posted more back on the old boards. New ones a bit overwhelming, and there's a lot of the time we really don't speak the same language. Television and pop-culture discussions will have crossover of course, but I'd suspect more of the EU players/posters to talk about the NFL or what was on TV last night in the US than even the same number of posters from the US (not even the same percentage) to talk about football or what's happening in Corrie.

@craggy see me on Union for TFs, SFs (please!) or just some good ol fashioned teaming.

Very people actually bother making threads. They just expect them to turn up.
It was a bit wierd moving, but I know I found it better.

The login bug can be solved by using;

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/

Not the old uk. something address. Someone posted that in another thread, followed it, no login bug ever since.

If you want threads, make em. People will post.

Not so, actually. I dropped the old UK prefixed address from day 1 of the new forums, and have the login problem every time I visit. I've pretty much given up on the forums now. This is the first time I've posted in quite a while, and the first time I've even visited them in a week... They're just not "home" anymore. Shame that.

Hell, I'm only staying subbed to the game so I can check out the GR beta and see if THAT might relight my interest in the game. I've not even bothered to log in to play the new Halloween stuff...

Very odd, seeing as I don't use the UK version...

Out of interest, what login bug?

I've largely stopped posting here, because when I do, I get trashed for having an opinion and I'm not exactly happy about the current RP situation so there seems little point.

I will try to post some stuff in the Lounge here over the next couple of days regarding what's being said at Hero-Con. May as well, since I'm the Euro-attendee.

The bug where in spite of telling the forum to remember your log in credentials you still have to log in every time you visit the forums. That bug.

I think since the merger, i've had to enter my details roughly 5/6 times due to the bug. From the sounds of it though you all seem to have it a LOT worse

I use the non UK URL though too.

It's the EU/NA cookie that seems to expire in 24 hours. The login credentials stay saved if you re-visit the site within that period.

Your not a good example, FFM.
You've ALWAYS had login troubles, even on the old forums!
Well, that and/or double posting. Did you ever offend the forum gods?

Everyone will, infalibly, get shouted at for having an opinion by someone else at somepoint in their life.
On these forums the people who shout loudest tend to have the least of a leg to stand on.
The ones who have facts and evidence and understand things post much more legible posts

Current RP situation?

Got hit by a login bug today but besides that I usually use the forums I used on the old forums, so the general discussion, suggestions and comic forum. There is no real reason for me to use this forum. And although at first the forums seemed overwhelming I think that after a while they are much the same as the old forums. Only with more people and more posts to follow. Their are of course topics I don't care about but I soon found topics I do care about like shows I follow and as far as I can tell people are pretty cool(and some are idiots but hey, who am I to judge, for others I might be such an idiot).

Dont post anywhere as much as I used to, this is probably the most shoddy forum software I've had to use. Hard enough to keep track of what I've read let alone what I've said

"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.

Of course, I only hear about the griping secondhand since I stopped listening on GGOOC a long time ago.

It likely just comes down to the fact that I'm 'old guard' and don't get on so well with some of the 'young whippersnappers.'

BTW, GR is about the same for me as for FFM. I'm hoping this weekend will really enthuse me again and GR will be well worth it. If not... well, let's hope CoH2 is a glorious thing because CO certainly isn't.

On an unrelated note: I'd forgotten how utterly hilarious US adverts could be. Seriously, everyone needs a Bumpit. Only $9.99 and easily a $50 value, or something. I mean, if these were played in the UK, they'd be called comedy.

Well, GR looks good enough (if that gfx is in the missions as well) but it will come down to content. I've never ever played as little as I'm doing now and none of my old regulars are left and I doubt they're coming back since GR is just way to far off. They've forgotten about the game and moved on by then. Basically they're waiting for me to un-sub so we can move on, while I'm waiting for them to find another game. ...and CO sure wasn't it!

As for the forum. Well, if it worked the way it's supposed to it'd be ok. I like a lot of the new stuff, but it's so bloody bloated it's hard to see if there's any new interesting posts. I do spend more time on the forum than on the game, but that means I spend about 1 hour a week.

Been on regularly during hell-o-whiiners. Most people online redside: 54!
Couldn't even get a Master of 5sf or MoITF going despite announcing it a week ahead and repeating it. Apparently more people blueside as usual, but I just can't enjoy blueside even if I really, really try. Apparently it's still going well in the states(?) so I guess the game won't be cancelled at least, unless GR goes TR on us. ...or as swedes say: 7177135 up! (Bet that won't be censored)
