Why is it that the message boards times are wrong? it shows it to be 5:17pm as of now, but it's actually....atleast CST to be 10:04am.....are the boards overseas or something?

Hmm, interesting. I just went to check it there were time zone settings in the User CP (there are), but my time zone is set correctly, and the clock is still off by about 4 hours and 40 minutes. Even if it were a time zone issue, only the hour should be wrong.

However, the post times appear to be correct.

Oops, looking again, the time I was looking at is the "You last visited..." time. So everything is working correctly. You've just got to go to your User CP and edit your time zone under options.

the time is only about 2 minutes off from my watch. Seems right to me.

There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"

You know you can change your time zone in your User CP, right?

Looks spot on to me.

Quick test... editing in a second.

EDIT: huh... ok, the time is correct (set it to -6:00 CST)... but at the bottom it still says "All times are GMT -5.". But, uh, 'all times' seem to be for whatever I set my timezone to...

It means all times where ever they show up on the board - edit times, post times, etc.

Right, that little message basically just shows you what your timezone is currently set at, and shows you the current time for confirmation... so if you just set your timezone to Central (-6), the display at the bottom changed to that too.. (Central is currently GMT-5 due to Daylight Savings Time. After Nov.1, it will say GMT-6.)

Yep, The UK will still change their clock from GMT+1 to GMT on Oct.25 instead.

My favorite part of the Wikipedia page on DST in the US:

"Wyoming Senator Michael Enzi advocated the extension from October into November especially to allow children to go trick-or-treating in more daylight."

Assuming that's true (which you can never really do about things on the Wikipedia, but I digress), it demonstrates more clearly than ever that Congress knows nothing about how real life works. I mean, Senator Enzi has clearly failed to grasp the first basic principle about trick-or-treating there.

I agree. When I was a child, we started trick-or-treating when the sun went down and knew which doors to go to cause they left their porch lights on for us. Nowadays, it's recommended to STOP when it gets dark.

I don't get it either. If it's parents' concern for safety, then they should be going out with their children anyway. lol

Where I live they somewhat do it right. They have defined the times to trick or treat at 5-8 and ask people to turn on their porch lights to indicate they are participating. I balk at being told the exact times to do it but at least it will be dusk to dark at those times.

And they refer to the Trick-or-Treaters as beggars which is technically correct (the best kind of correct) but it is a bit annoying to me. They should have just called them Trick-or-Treaters and not beggars.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

Agreed.. unless of course they're trick-or-treating as beggars. I remember being a hobo one year - what an easy costume.

I did this one year too.... mostly because my Mom was going through severe depression at the time and didn't want to bother with it all. My little brother was crushed to say the least, so I picked up the ball, pulled out some grungy clothes, some makeup, hats, pillowcases, and in 15 minutes we were hobo/street urchins cruisin' for sweets.

Nice. "Please sir, may we have some more?"

I'm pretty sure I did the classic hobo clown one year, and I know I was a pirate another year, but my most triumphant Halloween was when I was six. I was the Big Fig. My costume was glorious and I knew the song-and-dance routine by heart. I was a huge hit. I was still working on that candy haul circa Thanksgiving (which, for our foreign readers, I should note is on the last Thursday in November in the US).
