Saturday Morning Bacon-Waffles at HC

Ah, ok. But, using that same example, I'm losing lots of sleep. Don't forget, you are also going to sleep 3 hours later.

I fly out of Austin at 7AM CST Friday. It's a bit of a drive from my home to Austin (2 1/2 to 3 hours) so getting to the airport at 6 (better safe than sorry) I need to leave home around 3 AM. And of course, that requires getting up even earlier, likely around 2 AM CST.

Brax, Arwen, Phantom, and a few other east coasters are on the same flight out of Houston with me (and SuperGoober at least, no idea on Neutra yet) but I have no idea what time they are having to get up for their flights. I 'd imagine it would be close to mine, only an hour earlier being EST instead.

By the time things come to a bit of a conclusion on Friday night, at least judging by last year, I'm figuring somewhere around midnight PST, which would translate to 2AM CST. At that point, I'll have been up 24 hours. While this wouldn't have been much of a problem a decade or two ago, I'm not as young or resilient as I was then, no matter how much I try to pretend I'm still young and vibrant.

Being older, my body not only needs more rest, but it doesn't rebound as quickly as it used to either. Sure, I'll likely be able to nap a bit on the plane, but it's not the same as a restful sleep. I've considered getting a hotel for the night before the flight, just to avoid the morning drive, but that's an extra expense I really don't want or need.

All in all, I'll be dragging most of Saturday morning until likely around mid-afternoon. I'll have to be careful about sitting down and being too still and comfortable, since I'd be likely to nod off where I sit. Yes, I can fall asleep pretty much anywhere, and have even done so standing up on a construction job with heavy equipment driving past me. Long story, wrong venue, ask me at HC and I'll likely regale you with that boring story if you insist.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

The airline will never know what hit it!

If you hear of Continental Airlines employees in Houston going berserk that Friday, well, you'll know why.

I think it's safe to say that everyone from every time zone will most probably been pretty lethargic Saturday morning. I say that simply because I know 90% of us were out pretty late last year, and regardless what internal rhythm your body clock is on, less sleep is still less sleep. But, we can all hope that the adrenaline and the excitement of the day will help keep us up and on our feet...especially since it's probably going to be a LONG night

I vote all of the above. These bacon-waffle memories are going to have to last me all year, so any reinforcement I can add is good.

This. Hopefully people will sleep on the planes (except the one that has like a whole SG full of CoH'ers), but otherwise they're in for a hurting on Saturday, I suspect. My plane trips are often extra-wonky though, since I'll do nearly anything to avoid the DFW airport and flying on Delta airlines. But even when I'm not the person choosing, airline routes these days often extend a trip by hours by sending you all over the country to get from one state to another. I once flew from Texas to Virginia via Minnesota and back through Michigan. Corporate travel booked that flight and it had nothing to do with my usual avoidance of DFW. Recently I went to North Carolina from Texas via Phoenix, AZ. I'll be flying from Austin directly to San Jose, but coming back I'm going through Denver. That seemed a kinder option than asking my parents to get up at 3:00 am to say goodbye to me or drive me to the airport. Airline hubs are a Nemesis plot.

Hopefully I'll be well-rested for Friday, because I fly in on Thursday and stay with my family not far from San Jose. But I'll still probably be crying for my bed by 10:00 pm. I'm only Central time, but I always feel like I'm 80 when I visit my parents in CA end up going to bed before them because it's two hours later for me.

Get off my lawn!

I know that feeling...I still remember how I felt at the M&G at Dave and Busters two years ago...I really wanted to stick around and enjoy the after party, but the flight combined with the change of time zones to wipe me out pretty early.

Fortunately, I'm coming in on Thursday, too, but I'll be spending a lot of the day Friday in San Fran, so I'm not sure how energetic I'll be by the point I see everyone

If it helps, I don't think they have Mountain Dew at Holder's. :P

If someone could be so kind as to give me the phone number for this place, I'll give them a call tonight or tomorrow and see what we can do about making sure everyone has space. We've got 22 on the list, but I'm going to tell them 26 to be on the safe side.

Saratoga restaurant phone #: (408) 378-6022
Link to their website (to ensure you can get/check for the right number):
Holder's Country Inn

Also, good place to go if you're looking for the address to feed into a GPS or site for directions. (Or if you want to peruse the menu if bacon waffles aren't for you!) One thing to note, they don't list sides like hashbrowns or bacon or sausage on the menu, but if you ask, they'll get it to you. I'm not sure why that is, but I'm glad I can still get the extas even if I'm not sure how much it'll cost me.

Handy link to Frog's Live Mission Team thread

I figured I'd link this here because after asking a buddy, I found that Registration & LMT sign-ups start about 9AM. Since I don't get the sense that we've settled on a time for bacon-waffles yet, I figured I'd provide that information to see if it helps. Now if folks have already picked up their registration stuff on Friday & have teams already organized & possibly signed up Friday, the back by 9AM is not so crucial. Whereas if they haven't then it might be more important. Maybe organize carpools along those lines?

Any luck talking to anyone at Holder's Frog? If not, I can give it a shot & see if there's anything that can be done to make it easy on us and on Holder's.

I was running about like a chicken with my head cut off yesterday, so I didn't get to call yet. I'll be calling this evening when I get home from work.

As for what time, I was thinking we had decided to meet at the hotel at 7:30 am and go from there. It'll be cutting it a little close, I think, but I just don't see us getting people up any sooner.

Yeah. I'm having a hard time seeing that too! (Normally, I'm still sound asleep at that time!)

Oh and while the time had been talked about, I didn't recall seeing agreement on that. I recall questions about when things start on Saturday so that decisions could be made. So... I asked someone who I thought might know, or might be able to find out for me. Fortunately, he did have the info! If only I had thougth far enough ahead to make note of the ENTIRE Con schedule to make unofficial event planning easier.

I'll third the "not seeing it happen" part, too. 7:30am is seriously asking a lot of me, as I am not an early riser. Usually, if I'm looking at 7:30am, it's because I haven't been to bed yet.

Heh.

Please note that while I have a hard time seeing getting people ready to go prior to 7:30AM (Prolly through sleep encrusted eyes) I will be there & ready to go if that's the time agreed upon. It's all about the motivation!
Bacon waffles? Justice crew? Consider me motivated. I may be asking for the Mountain Dew though... :P
