Save/Load- the final frontier
I would actually respec my higher level characters if I could do this.

I see now my idea is too self obviously awesome to spur any sort of discussion. In order to spice things up, everyone should assume I want to have the servers merged and only allow these new respecs to be claimed in the Storm Palace.

OMG! This is ridiculous!! Your idea will lead to rampant market inflation, the death of the game, a plague of boils, a rain of frogs, and certain fiery death in a nuclear holocaust!!!
Other than that, it's pretty cool, and I'd love to see it implemented. I guess the only problem with it is that for it to be reasonably painless to use, it'd require the creation of a new interface to allow the build planning and saving. Of course, once you've made a drag'n'drop, easy-to-use interface for assigning powers and slots, they could use it for the respecs themselves, too, rather than the current laborious system, so that's more like a two-for-one bonus.

A Storm Palace Respec you say?
This alone is sign worthy and could possibly be the best player concieved idea since the inception of the game. However, added with the ability to save/load specs with enhancements pre-slotted would be too awesome for most of the player base. As much as it pains me to say it, you may have to drop the respec part and just stick to the save/load function, if only for the fact that many players don't even know about the Storm Palace.
As for the server merge, *Insert Memphis Bill's "Standard Code Rant"*.
But, yeah, a save/load function on respecs would be pretty nice.

And don't allow villains to do it at all, since the Devs hate villains. And Tankers. No Tanker should be able to do this respec. No way no how.
But yeah, aside from the fact that Lemur Lad is an unmitigated jackass, I think this is a good idea.

As long as they tell us the file format, or it's simple enough to figure out, I'm all for it!
After all, if they implement something like this and Mids'/Suckerpunch's planners don't support it, what's the point?

Actually Loading and Saving builds locally would have an advantage in that it'd also allow the Devs to sidestep the big problem with how the game remembers when slots were placed (in that the stupid thing doesn't at all).
However if you're saving a local version you could allow the new Respec screen to also remember and load and save the slot levels to these local versions as well. So when you're respeccing you could load up a build and since you've got the slot info you could allow moving of slots a la Mids and Suckerpunches builders.
If you also made it that when you level up you also sneakily load and save local copies, with slot level info in them then when you go to respec the screen could automatically load your last local level save and use that to permit Slots to be moved around rather than going through the current, labourious system of "Place each power, now place each slot".
Good ideas. /signed
You guys make me chuckle.
I did a little more thinking on this today, and some thoughts I'd like to see:
A drag and drop interface for power selection, that works like re-ordering characters on the Select Screen. Powers on the right, available spots on the left. Powers you're too low level for are gray, but apart from that, powers you can take can be dragged, dropped, and re-ordered as you like.
3 tab interface like the Character Creator- Powers, Slots, Enhancers Allow people to jump back and forth as they choose (why? see below)
A level Slider- Set your level and (so you can see the number!), and set up the interface such that you can see what powers you have available at that level (delineate between picked and exemplar bonus powers) along with accurate values for Enhancement Scaling. This lets you get an idea of how you'll perform at that level. Additionally have an info screen that accounts for your IO bonuses.
Basically I think a lot of the interface changes we've seen in the last couple of years would really serve the Enhancer/Respec screens quite well.
PS- also allow us to chat while respeccing! kthxbai.

Allow me to necropost to this topic. While kicking around the idea of respeccing my Crab Spider today, I launched Mid's and thought "Wouldn't it be great if this could just read my character's build from the game itself, so I don't have to manually recreate the build from scratch?" Then I figured that pulling straight from the game's memory would probably violate some portion of the license agreement, but what if Paragon added an option to the Enhancement Management interface to save the build info?
Came to the suggestions board to see if anyone else had thought of this (since I'm not generally known for my originality) and what should I find but this very thread? Some good stuff here, and I would love to see a simplification of the respec system, but I can imagine that part may be that selecting powers/slots when leveling up uses the same functions as the respec system, so a change to one would necessitate a change to the other.

What's next? I hope beyond hope that in the near future the respec/power choice system gets revamped to add this function.
As it stands, a respec doesn't poll the server until you've completed everything, so there doesn't seem to be anything in the way of letting us load in a configured file instead of picking every power and slot.
As super as that would be, it could be even better. A configuration that checks your enhancers and pre slots any and all you have already, and an easy to edit text format that could make for easy porting into character building apps like Mids or Suckerpunch's.
Here's hoping this can be done sometime in the next year.
