A small turnout for the MA Superteam this weekend but some bright arcs as we turned the spotlight on The 'Distinguished Competition!'...arcs featuring a parody or homage of competing video games & super hero worlds.

The Inhumans, A Fun, Short, Solo Mission, ID #268085 by @GL Corps
1 Mish, Villainous

City of Norms, ID #132944 by @Judgement Dave 2
3 Mish, Neutral

For the love of Tronn, ID #149443 by @La Fey Esclave
4 Mish, Neutral

Victors Online, ID #97980 by @Hellguard
4 Mish, Heroic

This weekend's arcs represented a wide spectrum of diversity, from simple costume show-off beat 'em ups, to very detailed satire of the CoH culture.

The Inhumans... was a nice warm-up and very typical of what you would find in an homage AE arc. Not much story, but absolutely fantastic costumes! Note: in it's current incarnation it is an obvious copyright violation. Hopefully the author will update it before it gets locked. If you want to check out some incredible costumes, play it now!

City of Norms is a well-detailed, humorous and satirical look at CoH, it's competition, and the CoH community at large. There are so many levels of humor it's worth a replay or 2 to get all the jokes! Easter eggs galore and a MUST play if you're a regular forum-goer.

For the love of Tronn is a shining example of how to craft an homage arc and NOT violate copyright. It's especially noteworthy for it's stunning costumes, fast-paced play, and amazingly appropriate map choice. Note: mission 1 is a bit grindy and dull, but it makes mission 2 and the rest of the arc feel even more incredible in comparison. When I approached the first group of enemies in the 2nd mish, I literally OMG'd!! The User commands you: "Play this arc!"

And finally, Victors Online was one of those borderline arcs. It was pretty much the same concept as City of Norms, but not as fast-paced or detailed. There's still plenty of fun humor at the expense of CoH's online competitor, the CoH community, and Devs that make it work.
Honorable mention (that we ran out of time to play) goes to: "Heroes of the City Addiction", #88641 by @FatBaby
1 mish, Neutral. Another fun send-up of super hero games.

Next Saturday (2/26/11): Our theme will be Lions, Tigers, and BÆSTS!! Join us as we take one last look at the 'beastly' creations AE artists conjured up before the introduction of the Beast Pack!!

Heads up: change of schedule this week! We'll be running the theme arcs Sunday at noon eastern (9am pacific) instead of Saturday. RL scheduling conflict arose.

Feel free to meet up and play what you like on Saturday, but the theme arcs will be Sunday.

Note: the MA Superteam has moved to Sundays at 12 eastern, 9am pacific for the forseeable future.

It was a wild time this weekend as the MA Superteam attempted to tame AE's best Lions, Tigers & BÆSTS!...arcs that feature custom beasts, pre-Beast Pack!

Evil Robot Animals (E.R.A.) of Destruction, ID #379082 by @Robo Penguin
1 Mish, Neutral

The Gypsy Chronicles, ID #389564 by @Stone-Fox
4 Mish, Neutral

Eclipse Over Paragon, ID #64609 by @jjac
5 Mish, Heroic

This weekend's arcs were a fun menagerie of well-crafted stories with primal custom enemies.

Evil Robot Animals... took the prize for BEST CUSTOM BEASTS. This fun, 1 mish, challenge arc was light on story but I think we all agreed that anyone who can actually make a FROG in AE deserves a special recognition. Warning: while the customs are awesome, they are also very challenging. Bring a team or your Scrapper.

The Gypsy Chronicles is a fast-paced, story-driven arc that builds up to its beastie-ness. You'll get so caught up in the characters and rhyming predictions that you forget it's a beast-theme until you're surrounded by teeth, fur, claws and teamed up with the coolest owl since Bubo.

Eclipse Over Paragon has nothing to do with sparkly vampires or rock-hard abs and has everything to do with being pure awesome. This arc was, paws down, the King of the BÆSTS! With meticulous ties to CoH canon, memorable characters, and creative beastly customs, this arc easily eclipsed the rest.

Honorable mentions we ran out of time for go to:
"Naughty Cat-Girls of the Third Reich", #41119 by @TheConfessor
5 mish, Vigilante.

and "Project CHIMERA", #9122 by @Mouserella
1 mish, Heroic.
Next Sunday (3/6/11): Our theme will be Luck o' the Ærish!! Join us as we take take a peek under the rainbow and play some St. Patty's, Green, and Luck-themed arcs!

We had a bonnie-good time (is that even a word?) this weekend as the MA Superteam donned their green bowlers and brushed up on Celtic mythos for Luck o' the Ærish!...arcs that feature Luck, Celtic &/or St. Patrick's Day themes!

Celtic Mischief, ID #134908 by @Lilith Anayanka
1 Mish, Neutral

Faerie Gold, ID #95553 by @Desmodus
4 Mish, Heroic

The Legend of Lady Luck, ID #234214 by @Mindlock
3 Mish, Neutral

This weekend's arcs were an interesting mix of typical St. Patty's fare and unexpected twists on convention.

Celtic Mischief took the prize for BEST CUSTOMS. This was our only "traditional" St. Patty's arc. Light on the story but a fun, quick beat-em-up with all the characters you'd expect to find in a Leprechaun's Lair.

Faerie Gold was our BEST OVERALL for the week, with richly detailed characters, sharp dialog, fast-paced action, and an interesting story. It wasn't so much "St. Patty's" but it was definitely FUN!

The Legend of Lady Luck was intended to be an "Honorable Mention" but we had extra time and willing players so we ran it. This is one of those arcs that has a great concept and you can tell the author put a lot of effort into it, but the complete story just didn't quite get across. It takes a unique twist on the concept of Luck and features a really interesting contact in the form of a book. Rough around the edges, but still a good play.
Next Sunday (3/13/11): I will likely be out of town but will pass on a playlist to another member to lead. Our theme will be The Ædes of March!! Get your gladiator gear oiled up as we take on all challengers in the realm of Greek/Roman/Cimeroran arcs. Afterall, THIS. IS. A-EEEEEEEEE!!!!

I would say this could be improved greatly by moving each chunk of exposition a bit earlier in the story. There were several events that felt like non-sequiturs, but turned out to have a logical (if campy) explanation---that we didn't find out about until the end of the mission.

#458083 "All For Love In Cimerora" by @Daggerjack
4 Mish, Heroic

An interesting arc that brought up a lot of questions that went unanswered because we got a bugged objective that wouldn't complete on mission 2.

#144447 "Gladiators of Venus" by @pnakotus
5 Mish, Heroic (note: has invalid character that spawns as a 5th Column mekman but story is still solid, all small maps so it goes fast)

Wasn't too much of a roman arc outside of the gladiator theme (and maps), and the second mission felt rather redundant. But an overall interesting story.

#89438 "Facing the Darkness" by @Leandro
3 Mish, Heroic

All agreed - great dark/Nictus Cimerorans.

And I left, but I think the rest of the group ran this mission:

We did. I think the consensus was that the story was so-so (seems like it kind of dragged) and the custom bosses bordered on being too difficult. Of course, me being scatterbrained as a first-time leader probably didn't help.

Yeah, I noticed most of the Cimerora-themed arcs tended to be a bit more on the difficult side. Luckily, I solo with my scrapper when reviewing them the prior week.

And GRATZ! on your first Leadership arc!! It can be daunting remembering all the cutting/pasting and such. Does this mean I get to be a follower next time

Oh, and here's my official review:

I was out of town this weekend but ran these during the week so the MA Superteam would have a playlist of Ædes of March arcs. Here's this week's Greek/Roman/Cimerora-themed epics:

#458083 "All For Love In Cimerora" by @Daggerjack
4 Mish, Heroic

#144447 "Gladiators of Venus" by @pnakotus
5 Mish, Heroic

#89438 "Facing the Darkness" by @Leandro
3 Mish, Heroic

#259452 "A Discordant Note" by @Sentinel of Freedom
4 Mish, Heroic

#175660 "The Heart of Talos: A Warriors Task Force" by @Djinniman
4 Mish, Heroic

All for love in Cimerora is a creative, Ouro-modern, CoH-telling of the love story of Troy. The characters, dialog, details and costumes are a treat and the action is fast-paced. If you're familiar with Helen of Troy and all it's characters you'll have a blast making the connections.

I gave this one BEST OVERALL for the week but the Superteam says they hit a bug in mission 2 so they had to abandon it. I didn't encounter any bugs solo, so it may have just been a group thing or Fredrik had been drinking again ;P

Gladiators of Venus is a bit of a stretch on the theme. It's a sci-fi arc set in a Gladiator arena on a distant planet! The missions are short & quick, but it's the unique storytelling and characters that make this arc shine. Plus, you get to make a moral choice in mission 4 if you pay attention to the story! MOST CREATIVE

(note: there was 1 invalid character that spawns as a 5th Column mekman but it may be fixed by now)

Facing the Darkness is a sequel of sorts to the Imperius Task Force. What happens to Romulus' Cimeroran followers after he falls? (...well, besides being ground up for XP?) Let's just say Romulus' alliance with the 5th Column takes the next logical step... The canon ties and great details make this a top-shelf story, but it's the Nictus-infused Cimerorans that win it BEST CUSTOMS of the week!

And the final arcs, A Discordant Note and The Heart of Talos were both solid stories with great action. I remember Heart of Talos was especially ingenious as it tied the street thug Warriors into Cimeroran mythos. A perfect canon match!
Honorable mentions:

#183037 "Clash of the Titans" by @Operative Ajax
3 Mish, Neutral

#2521 "Time's New Roman" by @marqaha
3 Mish, Heroic
It was a big list this week as there are a LOT of great, mythic arcs out there. Load a few up and test your mettle against AE's best!

Next Sunday (3/20/11): It's TBD week! We don't have a theme yet. Show up and see what kind of wackiness ensues!!

Thanks for a fun turnout this week! Looks like Sundays are fitting into everyone's schedule a little better

We had a last-minute theme this week. I thought it'd be nice to play some Ædvertised Arcs: arcs which have been posted in the MA Subforum looking for feedback.

#483637 "Veridian Awakening" by @Spirit
5 Mish, Rogue

#480712 "Tangled Vines" by @Suspicious Glen
5 Mish, Rogue

Both arcs were very well-crafted and you could tell the authors poured their hearts into them. My suggestions to both of them would be 1. give the player a better motivation than "money" and 2. edit the stories down to 4 missions...there's plenty of fat in each that can be cut. That said, they're both great 1st submissions and I hope they get plenty of good feedback!

Veridian Awakening is an ultra-detailed sci fi adventure that teams you up with a rogue AI and faces you off against the technologically advanced Veridian forces. While the storyline is pretty standard "rogue AI" fare, I enjoyed the formatting and conversational tone of the contact dialog and the custom group was well done.

Tangled Vines teams you up with Rogue Isles ace reporter, Amanda Vines, and sends the two of you on the lamb with seemingly everyone on your tail...including ninjas and pirates!! (sorry, no zombies or monkies) There's fun meta humor, creative use of a Malta Titan model, and a bit of a love story? What's not to love? Note: the custom enemy group in this one is a bit rough on a nearly full team. Squishies beware.
There's a few more arcs in the subforum still looking for feedback. If you have some time, give 'em a play and help an Æuthor out!

Next Sunday (3/27/11): It's Æpril Fools! Join us for super powered hijinx & shennanigans as we check out the best comedy/prank arcs we can find in the AE. I promise: no Rick Rolls! *crosses fingers*

Another good turnout and another fun set of arcs this weekend as we welcomed spring with an Æpril Fools theme: arcs with pranks or comedic twists.

#91908 "I hacked the AE Corp mainframe! Try and stop me!" by @K9
3 Mish, Neutral

#1072 "Fool Me Once" by @Longshot
5 Mish, Heroic

#1140 "Catastrophic Betrayal" by @Atiaxi
5 Mish, Villainous

While none of the arcs were directly about April Fools, they all featured pranks or pranksters and were well crafted!

I hacked the AE Corp Mainframe pits you against an evil hacker who makes you solve his riddles to save AE and the city's AE players. The contact had a classic prankster personality, the riddles were challenging & creatively solved via AE mechanics, and the author actually had a meta-lesson that pointed out a feature of the nav bar I never knew existed! Challenging, educational, and fun! Best Riddles

Fool Me Once is another riddle-ladden prankster arc but this time with a bit more story and a lot more action. Beware, making the wrong choices on this arc could lead to a LOT of pain. MOST CHALLENGING

I thought the Superteam would enjoy the riddle challenges, but it was Catastrophic Betrayal that took home Best Overall Arc for the week! (as well as BEST CUSTOMS) A refreshingly villainous story where the player is the prankster and pulls the wool over the all-too-trusting citizens of Paragon City. Great characters, concept and ties to canon. You'll like it..."trust me."

Lots of Honorable Mentions this week and not a Rick Roll in the bunch. I pity the fool that doesn't play them:
#491730 "CoX Farmville Beatdown 2011" by #SupaFreak
4 Mish, Neutral

#385714 "Dreck's Guide to Senseless Mayhem and You" by @Arco Faust
5 Mish, Villainous

#137063 "Silver Age Shenanigans" by @Firetap
1 Mish, Heroic

#189073 "Freakshow U" by @Lethal Guardian
1 Mish, Heroic
This Æpril Fool's load up some laughs and play thru some pranks in AE!

Next Sunday (4/3/11): I'll be at WonderCon so it's another TBD Weekend! Bubba or Fred will take up the reigns and lead you on a few arcs of fun. Will they choose High Roller? Random Roulette? or something totally different?!? There's only 1 way to find out...be there!

We played "Sea Change" by @Brick the First (#137269) and "Black as Midnight" by @SupaFreak (#482914). That was all I had time for, unfortunately.

The arcs were generally well accepted.

"Sea Change" was apparently an acquired taste that grew on you, or at least it grew on PW who said she liked the funny dialogue in the latter missions. See, not entirely serious!

"Black as Midnight" promises a sequel or actually two, one for heroes and one for vigilantes. I'm looking forward to them.

Sorry I missed it the team this week. Trying to get some things organized with work and such. I was a bit surprised to see the team played thru "Black as Midnight"... much appreciated. About to lay out the groundwork for the next ones that I think are smaller. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in some CoH time this week.

The superteam managed to pry itself away from the oh-so-shiny new stuff just long enough for a round of High Roller! The dice were hot, quips were sharp, and a good time was had by all.

#405340 "The Rogue Vahzilok by @Lone Superpower
5 Mish, Rogue

#435191 "The Cult of Kren'Goras" by @Aegis Wolf
5 Mish, Heroic

Bubba won the first roll and chose an arc he recently reviewed. The Rogue Vahzilok was a neat concept of Dr. V chasing down a rogue eidolon. It's ties to canon were inaccurate and surprise ending was predictable, but it still won BEST EFFORT for the week.

Next up, Fred got the high roll and chose one he's had on his 'to test' list for a while. The Cult of Kren'Goras is part 3 of a series of stand-alone-yet-tied-together arcs by @Aegis Wolf. Each of the arcs features characters from his original dimension, Natural Earth, which is inhabited by plant/human hybrids created by Hamidon to save the human race from a great plague.

Warning: this arc appears to be in the early stages of editing and there are a lot of grammar and typo mistakes. As such, it's also pretty text-heavy with lots exposition, but there's an interesting story behind it all. My favorite part of the arc had to be the Natural Earth version of Manticore (whom I dubbed, "Planticore!") That character alone rewards this arc BEST CUSTOMS for the week
Both of these arcs could use some good feedback to help tighten them up, load 'em up if you've got some time and give 'em a whirl!

Next Sunday (4/17/11): the Ænvasion! begins!! For the next 10-12 weeks the superteam is going to 'invade' a different server, opening our ranks to players who don't have alts on Triumph. Next Sunday our first target is Pinnacle!!

If you play on Pinnacle already meet us in the AE Building in Rikti War Zone for some AE fun! Bubbawheat will be leading and is coming prepared with some of our favorite arcs! If you're not already playing on Pinnacle, roll up an alt! All levels and ATs are welcome
