Had a great turnout this morning! It was nice to see so many familiar faces and a couple new players in the AE.

We ran 2 new arcs today: a doppleganger arc and a recent arc from the Latest Arc announcement thread.

1st up was the doppleganger arc "Fistful of Suzuki", ID #440157 by @Lazarus

2nd one was "Chris Jenkins: Superhero at Large", ID #415230

Both were fun, well-balanced arcs but I was too out of practice after my vacation to give them a full critique so I just gave 'em 5 stars and called it 'good.' Give 'em a shot when you get a chance!

Next week I'm thinking we try to find some more doppleganger arcs. If you know of any good ones or ones you'd like the MA Superteam to run thru, post 'em here.

Normally Saturday's at Noon EST in the RWZ on Triumph. We used to run on other days, but things have slowed down especially with the GR release.

Small turnout this week but a fun run as usual.

First up was an arc that I jotted down from the MA Arc Finder channel looking for reviews on:

"Project Z", ID #98358 by @Dark Lu

While the arc had an exciting concept of zombies being created and controlled by the 5th Column, it's execution fell short.

The zombies were pretty much the generic zombies we already see in-game with 1 or 2 customs that had no 5th Column feel to them.
The first few missions had very little dialogue or clues, making them feel 'empty.'
When dialogue was finally added in later missions, it was unimaginative & repetitive "URRG"s from zombies. It got old fast.
The main contact's "voice" was a distraction and didn't seem to fit the theme of the arc or make a logical connection as being 5th Column.
The main contact's motivation and the players' motivation for helping him were underdeveloped.
In general there was nothing 'new.'
So, while it didn't grip me with the story or characters, it was techinically sound and the concept was interesting. *** 3 Stars but lots of potential for re-edit.

Our other mission arc was a random pick for 'something sci-fi':

"The Manimals of Dr. Morrow", ID #53411 by @Killershrike

This one started off on the wrong foot, with Manticore giving us almost no set-up and sending us to rescue some citizens from some mysterious animal/human hybrids.

The first mission is an unannouced timed mish. Luckily, 30 minutes is more than enough for a team to find a few hostages and free them. The hybrids are a pretty tough bunch and they're complimented by some tricky Thug masterminds who are really calling the shots on kidnapping citizens. Difficulty may be rough for solo players, but a balanced team should be able to get thru without too much trouble.

Mission 2 delves deeper into who's behind the Thugs as you infiltrate a base full of them. Unfortunately, this mission featured MM OVERLOAD as custom groups of all MMs (with the same name to make it confusing to find the 'real' MM) litter the map and you get ambushed by more. It wouldn't be so bad if most of them couldn't call Gang War on top of the mess, but we eventually slugged thru the mish to zero in on the big bad.

Last mish was a basic defeat the big bad with a mix of everything we'd already seen.

The whole thing was pretty formulaic, the MM enemy group made it overly difficult, Manticore was completely out of characater as a contact, and obvious mistakes like referring to the manimals as 'half-human, half-hybrid' dragged the arc down. Half-human, half-hybrid...would that make them 3/4 human and 1/4 animal?...

Anyway, it was a technically solid 4 star arc but all of the above dragged it down to *** 3 Stars.

Hope to see more of ya next week and hopefully some better arcs!

Had a solid turnout this week and some very solid 9-11/Patriot Themed arcs.

First up was an arc @PW made just for Patriot Day:

Crisis at Talos Towers, ID #448216 by @PW
1 mission arc, Heroic

This was one of those special kinds of arcs that really opens your mind to the creativity authors can express thru the AE system. "Clever" doesn't begin to describe the concept and execution of this mission.

The story was simple enough: rescue people trapped in a collapsing building. But the execution was far from simple. The mission is uniquely fast-paced, exciting, chaotic, and touching...all at the same time! As an AE author you will be kicking yourself, saying, "Why didn't I think of that!"

Highly recommended for teams as difficulty and spawning would vary quite a bit solo and the team spawning was a perfect fit for the atmosphere of the story.

***** 5 Stars. The only complaint I heard was that it left people wanting more, but isn't that what a good story does? Make you want to play more instead of log off, exhausted and bored?

American Patriot, Defender of Earth, ID #446711 by @Sardonic Paladin
2 mission arc, Heroic

This arc was recommended in the American Legion Patriot Day event thread.

The first mission was intriguing: you fall asleep watching a history program on TV and dream (mission 1) of rescuing some famous American patriots from the 5th Column. 2 things made this mission interesting: first the history lesson in the character bios and clues. I'm a sucker for sneaking in some education with my fun, and 2: the costumes for the patriots were spot-on! However, I was put off by the mechanics the author used, as the chained objectives slowed down the mission and made it a bit tedious.

The 2nd mission was a much more traditional "save the world" scenario with your character charging into action back in the real world. And while the story of the 2nd mission was typical hero fare, complete with a guest Hero appearance, the segue between the 2 missions wasn't very solid. There needed to be a stronger tie between to them so that the story had more 'meaning.'

Still, it felt heroic, patriotic, and I learned something!
**** 4 Stars.

Made to Wave the Flag, ID #384776 by @LaserJesus
5 mission arc, Heroic

If you've ever played an @LaserJesus arc you know you're in for a ride and this arc is definitely a 'seat belt required' attraction.

The entire arc is a bit of a mind trip as your character wakes up in a hospital bed, disoriented...the subject of a mysterious experiment. You team up with other captured heroes and try to make an escape, but can you believe the things you see and do?

The highlight of this arc is the memorable characters and witty dialogue from NPCs that have their own unique 'voices.' The story, itself, is full of twists, turns, sacrific, and surreality. Just when I thought I knew where it was all going I had to re-think everything. I'm actually still not sure exactly what happened, but I'm sure I had a good time doing it!

On the downside: the main enemy group is Malta and there's a LOT of text. Now, personally, I didn't mind the Malta or the text. I actually like missions with a bit of challenge and LJ's writing is top notch. It's just that 5 missions of slugging thru both can leave you feeling drained and ready for a RL break. That said, it's still worth the effort!

***** 5 Stars. Reserve a good block of time and bring lucks & break frees

Next week we play High Roller, where the Superteam member with the highest roll on /e dice get's to choose any arc for us to run. Warm up your eDice and be ready for fun!

LaserJesus' arc was really cool. It felt a bit Manchurian Candidate like.

The bad guys in PW's Talos Towers arc were amazingly creative. I felt claustrophobic and on edge the entire time in the mission. The mood was captured perfectly.

Skitterbug will be warm up his eDice. I have one arc in particular that I've got picked out already.

Great time yesterday with a full team and three hours of MA fun. The two excellent arcs run were:

Uranmensch: The Atomic Man by @Stone-Fox Arc ID: 440730

Thanks to Backfire for organizing and everyone that showed.

Yep, this weekend was a lot of fun. We had some fresh new faces and quite a few of our original team back in action!

First up for High Roller Player's Choice was:

The Doctor Returns, ID #1152 by @FredrikSvandberg
5 mission arc, Heroic

Once again, Fred weaves a tale into CoH canon with an enviable ease, pulse-pounding action, and spot-on characters.

When you get an email from the sentient, rogue, Crey AI, "The Doctor" (originally from the "Doctor's Ally" badge arc) you're sent deep into the heart of Architect Entertainment's programming on a mission to save the city's heroes and your own identity!

This arc features prolific use of the new Doppleganger ability in AE and introduces a new enemy group in the form of AE's own programming security. Virtually fight your way thru buggy code and alternate versions of yourself without the brainbending pitfalls of time loops and alternate dimensions.

One of the interesting aspects in this arc was the way Fred took advantage of meta-humor, as you find yourself in someone else's Morality Mission and an XP farm! The humor, the detail and overall cleverness of this arc richly deserved it's:
***** 5 STARS!!

Next up was:

Uranmensch: The Atomic Man, ID #440730 by @Stone-Fox

4 mission arc, Heroic

Okay, Nazi-stomping is pretty much standard hero fare, but this arc is much more than just a time-travelling romp thru war-torn Germany. There's also lots of humor, bonus easter eggs, and uncanny ties into actual German history/culture.

Having just recently visited Germany (and Neuschwanstein Castle, in particular) I was greatly impressed by the history of the characters and references to things uniquely German. While it was fun fighting to save the world from a living nuclear bomb, I actually found myself enjoying the little extras like the bonus boss in Mission 2 (that spawns after mission complete) and references to Dunkel beir, the Black Forest and Ludwig. They made me want to book an immediate flight on Lufthansa!!

My only problem with the arc was the final mission: I figure the author didn't want the whole thing to take place in cave maps, but the office map used in M4 doesn't match the timeline nor the mission briefing. Also, I have issues with being sent to "kill" anyone when I'm playing a hero...yes, even the Führer.

In the end I was able to look past those 2 shortcomings and gave this arc:
***** 5 STARS! Ich liebe dich!!

I'm still working on a theme for next Saturday, will post it later this week

Next Saturday's theme is something we haven't done before: the Hunt for Hall of Fame!

We'll choose our arc randomly from the top 6 Hall of Fame hopefuls via /e dice. Most of the arcs that are on the list are 4 or 5 missions long, so we'll probably only have time for 2 or 3 but they should be fun! NOTE: After the first roll we will include the 7th arc on the list to replace the one we just played, and so forth if we continue after 2.

The filters I'm using to find the top 6 are: "Final" status & 5 Star rating, then sorted by # of plays/rates. Surprisingly, I've only played 2 of the current top 6. I know many of you have already played them all, but we have new members that haven't and I think it'd be nice to bring these arcs some more attention.

See ya'll Saturday!

The Hunt for Hall of Fame! was a success! We had a great turnout and ran 3 of the top rated arcs on their way to HoF status:

Golden Age Secret of the Paragon Society, ID #344596 by @Wrong Number
5 mission arc, Heroic

The Lazarus Project, ID #124906 by @Flame Kitten

5 mission arc, Heroic

Doctor Geist and the Scientific Method, ID #111022 by @Scuzzbopper
4 mission arc, Villainous

Next week: our tentative theme is Dr. Aeon challenge arcs. If there are none posted by Saturday we may pick some forum arcs looking for feedback instead.

Today's theme was Dr. Aeon's 3rd Challenge Arcs. We ran 3:

A Wake for Dead 6, ID #379160 by @ClaveDark 5
4 mission arc, Heroic

A Clone of Your Own, ID #453091 by @Bubbawheat

3 mission arc, Rogue

The Vigilante, ID #395861 by @Gypsy Rose
4 mission arc, Vigilante

All the arcs were still works in progress and I'm sure they're going to change dramatically before the contest ends. Give 'em a shot and help the authors out with some good feedback.

Next week:
I will not be able to make it, but we have a great concept lined up! Break out your liederhosen for Oktoberfest!!! Bier, Steins, and silly hats galore as we search out the best Oktoberfest themed arcs out there. Drink a pint for me!

Today's theme was Oktoberfest! Unfortunately, there's not really any Oktoberfest themed arcs in the MA that we could find. (NOTE to authors- here's an untapped subject)

So we wound up doing a search for random "Beer" arcs and found quite a few:

Beerfest, ID #182758 by @bkstumpf
3 mission arc, Neutral

Arachnos and Beer, ID #93386 by @Sulaiman

4 mission arc, Villainous

Beer-The Nectar of the Gods, ID #170792 by @NJ Raingod
4 mission arc, Neutral

The Quest for Beer, ID #410210 by @Hakar
2 mission arc, Neutral

Most of these arcs were mediocre at best and seemed to be variations on the same basic ideas: find beer barrels & rescue brewmasters...often on the same outdoor forest map (ugh!)

In the end, I think we all agreed that The Quest for Beer was the most solid and had the best costumes, while Beer-the Nectar of the Gods was a close second, but got knocked down by one of the most 'out of left field' final missions, ever. Don't even bother with Arachnos and Beer, which is an obvious Freak farm.

Next week: join us for Dr. Aeon's 3rd Challenge Arcs - Round 2!! It's the last week for players to submit arcs to Dr. Aeon's latest challenge and there have been plenty of new contenders announced so we'll pick 3 or 4 and give 'em a run! Hope to see ya there

Last weekend's update: our theme was Dr. Aeon's 3rd Challenge Arcs - Round 2! We ran 2 new arcs which were submitted for Dr. A's latest contest:

A Very Special Episode, ID #457506 by @Wrong Number
4 mission arc, Heroic

Who Dares Wins, ID #454805 by @Zaphir

5 mission arc, Rogue

Both arcs were very heavily detailed and should be top contenders for the challenge. It might be best to run these solo, tho, as there's so much detail you will really want to take your time to experience 'em.

In the end, I think we all agreed that they were both good arcs, but Who Dares Wins was probably too detailed. Reading everything gave us text-fatigue >.< And, not sure if was coincidence or not, but it followed the same formula as the last Dr. A Challenge winner by dropping a mission clue backgrounder each time. It was almost formulaic in that respect, and a bit tedious once you were aware of it.

Anyway, they were both good stories and had interesting characters and dialogue. Give 'em a run!!

Next week: it's the MA Superteam's 1 year anniversary!! Join us for a SuperFun Flashback!! We'll choose a few of the funnest arcs we've played in the last year and see if they still hold up! Hope to see ya there

Saturday was a fun time with a near-full team and fun MA nostalgia! Our theme was Superfun Flashback!! A Celebration of the MA Superteam's 1 year anniversary with 4 lesser-know, random, yet memorable arcs from our long list of completed runs:

Getting to Know Crey Financial, ID #1034 by @NiteLash
1 mission arc, Heroic

The Christmas Zombie Attack, ID #353610 by @Desist
3 mission arc, Heroic

Sister Psyche TF Abridged, ID #306814 by @Big Rehab

5 mission arc, Neutral

Obesity Is Killing US, ID #18854 by @Destiny-Morna

1 mission arc, Heroic

These 4 missions run the gambit of good and bad experiences that the MA Superteam faces every week.

The first arc, Getting to know Crey Financial, was actually the first arc the MA Superteam ever ran!! I think we're going to make it an annual tradition It's only 1 mission long, features a great concept, costumes and dialogue and a lot of potential for a full arc if the author ever decides to expand it.

The Christmas Zombie Attack was creative, beautiful, and creepy all at the same time. This mission was worth it just for the Burton-esque feel and incredible custom costumes!

Sister Psyche TF Abridged
was a faithful condension of the classic in-game TF. And while it wasn't necessarily any less teidious than the original, it is unique in the fact that it give Villains a chance to experience some heroside story content and get some nice rewards in the process.

The last arc, Obesity is killing US, was one of those arcs we run into a lot: an arc with a TON of potential, but poor execution. We all had so many creative ideas on how to make it a better mission that one member is considering making a contest to see who can re-write the arc better!! Give it a play and see if it kicks YOUR creative juices into gear

Next week (10/30/10): it's Halloween weekend!! Join us for a Monsters, Mayhem, and MA!! We'll do a search for some Halloween/Horror/Monster arcs and see if we can't find some fun ones! Hope to see ya there

*** Have an arc that fits next week's theme? Post it here or PM me the ID # to add it to the playlist pool

Last Saturday's MA Superteam Halloween theme was Monsters, Mayhem and MA! We ran 2 arcs that featured either monsters or a Halloween storyline:

Once A Hero, ID #447488 by @Lord of Storms
5 mission arc, Heroic

Halloween Weenies...The Superguys vs the Stinky Pumpkin, ID #448348 by @Jinkobi

1 mission arc, Neutral

Both missions fit the bill perfectly! Once A Hero featured a plethora of custom monsters and Halloween Weenies was a trick-or-treat delight! Check 'em out next time you're in AE.

Next week: to celebrate the recent election and your power of voting, we're running a couple rounds of Make or Break! We'll do a search for random 5 Star arcs with 10 or less plays and see if they survive our honest ratings. Should be a good time, join us!

Today's MA Superteam meeting was a quick, fun run! This week's theme was Make or Break! We ran 2 random Final or LF Feedback arcs that were rated at 5 stars with 10 plays or less:

Shadows of Illusion, ID #1137 by @Ebonith
4 mission arc, Heroic

By Any Other Name, ID #398110 by @Fetch

3 mission arc, Heroic

We had one Make! and one Break! this run.

By Any Other Name was a definite "Make!" A simple, fast paced, action-oriented arc that tied perfectly into game lore and really felt heroic.

On the other hand, Shadows of Illusion was a solid "Break!" A good original concept but riddled with flaws...lack of motivations for players and npcs, numerous typos, and misplaced character backgrounds to a fairly predictable twist/ending.

But don't take my word for it, Make or Break! these arcs yourself!

Next week (11/13/10): Bring your fav list and be ready for some fast-paced action with One Mission Wonders! We'll pick a few one-mission arcs from attendees' 'Best of' lists and give 'em a play. Jot down your favorite One Mission Wonder and join in the fun!

We had a fun run last Saturday with the MA Superteam! The week's theme was One Mish Wonders! We ran 3 member-favorite arcs that were just 1 mission each:

Don't Freak, ID #384769 by @Gypsy Rose
1 mission arc, Heroic

Big In Sumeria, ID #328391 by @Witch Engine

1 mission arc, Heroic

Crisis at Talos Towers, ID #448216 by @PW

1 mission arc, Heroic

All 3 arcs were very creative and full of memorable dialogue, characters and fun!

Don't Freak is an action-oriented comedy with fantastic word play.

Big In Sumeria is a comedy homage to Ghostbusters, chock full of in-jokes...for both Ghostbuster AND CoH fans!

And Crisis at Talos Towers is a pulse-pounding and heart-wrenching tribute to first responders everywhere with an amazingly creative tie-in to real world events and the CoH setting.

Note: Big In Sumeria had a mechanical bug and some enemy groups did not drop rewards. Hopefully the author updates the custom enemy groups so they are valid and give full rewards because the mission is an absolute riot with that one exception.
Next Saturday (11/20/10): We're plucking an arc out of the CoH headlines and playing The First Ever Community Collaborated MA Mission! Straight from this year's meet & greet to your mission list! Join us for another fun run on the MA Superteam!

Whoot, got some time this weekend for a change.

Looks like Saturdays theme will either be epic or we'll be scratching our heads and saying what the hell?

See you guys in game this Sat and I'll talk to those of you in Vent who use it.
