Ridiculous Extra Maintenance
"Maintenance times shifting smack into prime-time, being extended, and being repeatedly incurred on -any- day of the week, it's a slap in the face for all the stuff-arounds we've endured." |
- The next one will be this Friday, October 16th.
- Monday's (October 19th) maintenance has been cancelled.
- Then on Thursday, October 22nd, we'll start the Hardware/Network Global Server maintenance.
On days where we have publishes for builds to the Live servers, Server down time is unavoidable.
- Today (October 14th), we published a build to the North American and EU Live servers that resolved a number of bugs. This build was also made to prepare for the upcoming 2009 Halloween / Deadly Apocalypse Event (that will begin on Tuesday, October 20th).
- Please note that we will probably have an additional maintenance on Tuesday, October 20th to promote a build that should fix some Halloween Event issues uncovered during yesterday's Halloween Event test on the NA/EU Training Rooms.
We're shifting our twice-a-week Global Maintenance to one day, beginning Thursday, October 22nd.

Bad web-munkies, bad. Forgetting your Yuropeens!
Maintenance on Tuesday is guaranteed, Yet Another X8.2 day anihilated.
My patience is almost done. NCSOFT doesn't 'care' for Australian patronage, fine, I'll take my monthly fee elsewhere, there are plenty of other MMO's out there. After five years, I've got a backlog of good single-player games which I have hardly touched. Maintenance times shifting smack into prime-time, being extended, and being repeatedly incurred on -any- day of the week, it's a slap in the face for all the stuff-arounds we've endured. I think I'll be announcing my formal resignation from CoH before Christmas. Excession. |

Speaking of memes, "Can I have your stuff?" Just in time for Christmas too!

Excellent news Ghost Falcon, that's a great improvement. One less weekly maintenance makes a big difference to us, and it's nice to have Friday night back too. Having a predictable patch day (Tuesday) is also very important to us because it we can organize our weekly events around it.
Of course it's not ideal, the old maintenance schedule was better for us, but this should be bearable, and it's very comforting to know that you are listening and responding.
Thank you to everyone who worked to make this change happen
Threatening to ragequit over something that must be done is a bit silly. Yes, the maintenance times do inconvenience me.
If you want to have a fit and scream that NCsoft doesn't value your business just because of your geographical location, that's your prerogative. I just don't think it's warranted. |
That is good news Ghost_Falcon. I hope it works out.
What I don't understand is why the maintenance had to move by 2 hours in the first place.
If the old time was more convenient to the Antipodeans, then why not go back to it, given that I've not seen a single post saying that the new time is more convenient to anybody.
It's true. This game is NOT rocket surgery. - BillZBubba
One night a week is a definite improvement, and it's pleasing to see that the devs are prepared to try and modify their processes to address our concerns. My thanks to the people that made sure our voices were heard in the halls of power, here's hoping that the trial goes well.

Min Min can only get online in the weekday evenings. For the last few weeks 60% of those were occupied by maintenance preventing him from logging on. Cancelling something that's only available 40% of the time you want it is a perfectly natural level-headed reaction. I know many other Aussie players who only play in the evenings, and are similarly affected.

Let's hope that the new new maintenance schedule works out.
Such is the problem with drive-by critiques...
I'm impressed that the NCSOFT people have decided to try changing the schedule.
Really impressed with reducing from 2 days a week to one, it's a huge difference to move it to Thursday instead of Friday as well, simply huge.
On this basis alone, I will continue to be a subscriber.
Thankyou to those people in NCSOFT who have taken steps to alleviate the maintenance-in-prime-time nightmare. Especially nice that we have been informed of the change, and so we poor sufferers know that there is respite on the horizon.
Perhaps the Tuesday role-play sessions will roll again now, instead of being chopped off at the knees

I agree I am being alienated more and more from this game i loved sooo much the powers are too short coming where are the new powers not recycled powers, maintenance on all servers at once for them to be different areas n time zones is just lame, not to mention i was already upset from nerfs. Its almost clear they make our game garbage as Champions online comes out as if they're trying to help them take off. EB's kills MM's n Pets with 1 hit not a giant monster or hero/arch villain our game is unbalanced the markets are ugly n sometimes never has what u need they don't bother to add io's to the market at a base rate. Where are the new io's. I won't call the devs. lazy just seems odd everything is short coming and slow to take action. Making a new zone is easy for that to be called something special, yeah and we all hang out in Cimeora cause its new. <---Ranting with good reason disgruntled vet wants real reason for maintenances n issue releases. Not here guys AE whoops sorry nerfed it no AE. Pay to play no longer pay to have fun im sad soo much for convincing all my close friends to leave WoW I cant prove CoH/CoV blows them out the water

1. How the heck are you playing your MMs to where EBs slam you and the pets instantly?
2. The AE nerf may have been overboard but at least I won't see new players churning out high level characters in two days with NO idea on how to play them.
1. thats what i was saying how n the heck does mynx kill my pets n me with 1 hit had to be a bug
2. we would have a big ego problem if we conducted how peeps enjoy this game. Not up to us to dictate what they would enjoy we pay to have fun not pay to follow orders. I don't care noobs lvl'ing ultra fast n don't know the game. Was just fun for me to see so many back, playing, lvl what u want quick enough to be affective as a vet that was awesome to me. You don't give something nice and take it away u think outside the box n make a new reason for us to leave AE nerfing says u F'ed up well don't take it away be cool n make something even better that levels the game out. I have run into peeps with better ideas n this game. If they felt we we're all n AE so much they could have released all the cool temp powers we love like wedding band,etc... as IO's only available by grinding n a new city they made or better lvling n certain cities at certain times of the day.
Someone mentioned they could have made AE only available to you n the city of your lvl not nerf a beautiful gift long overdue. I thgt it should have only been n bases a danger room like device cost lots but would really make our SG/VG tight and always playing together.
To devs who played n AE must've liked it too they helped us abuse it we all did Vets, noobs everyone do we all blame each other or say well make a reason for us to come out we are all n here for a reason a good 1 too, lvling its called fun if u already know the story tired of the year after year grind pissed at farmers mangling the market it was awesome for what it was for IO's we're all of a sudden achievable noobs knew nothing of bonus's from IO's really left vets to make real heroes if u felt noobs we're ruining AE teach them about the game don't preach they are waisting your time i thgt thats what our SG/VG was for.
Yes it was abused so what means its just that good who does drugs they dont like lol joke.
I've been playing StarCraft.
The new maintenance schedule is ridiculous. In Hawaii, we are shut down at 1:00 a.m. The schedule totally eliminates any overnight gaming sessions, and will be extremely irritating if it continues through the Halloween and other events.
All the mainland U.S.A. time zones get to enjoy their late night game sessions, and we should be allowed the same. Previously, the schedule shut East coast down at 9:00 a.m., which would be 3 a.m. in Hawaii, which was an easier time to accept than the 1:00 a.m. cut-off we have now.
It is hard enough putting teams together at our odd game time, just to have the game shut down when we start having fun.
How much of an outcry do you think there would be should the devs regularly lock down the game at 1:00 a.m. in any of the mainland U.S.A. time zones? Scary to even imagine.
Be fair, and let us have our late night game time back.

..my only regular gaming buddy is American and chooses to play in their morning (apart from the weekends it's the only time we can sync our schedules) - our teaming has been very heavily hit by this new maintenance pattern...
|
We used to get a good 2-4 hours in. Now we're lucky to get 30 mins to an hour before shutdown.
I literally wake up at 4 in the morning just to play with the aussies. Where's the love?

The devs hate City of Villains, but they hate the Pacific region even more.

I've dusted off my forum account because I'm mad and I'm posting here with the small hope that someone else will read it and perhaps do something about it.
A word of introduction to those that don't know me. I'm an Aussie and I've been a member here going on for my fifth year. My friend Frozen Motion and I run the Extraordinary 8, which has been an ongoing weekly role playing super group in one form or another for more than four years. We get together once a week and we play the arc of characters from level one through fifty. This time through we've been writing just about all the content for original adventures ourselves. It takes eight or ten hours to write enough of an adventure for a three hour game, and much of the time they don't get enough testing (partly due to poor testing tools). There are literally more than one hundred comic covers up on our website http://www.extraordinary8.com representing hundreds of hours of work by our team members. Our membership has been extraordinarily faithful, with some members staying subscribed for more than an additional year just so they could play one night a week with our Supergroup.
When this iteration of the X8 began some thirty levels ago. We had eleven people wanting to play. There was literally a queue for spots on our team. This past month we have been lucky to get four, and two of us are the leaders.
As the X8 have always played on Tuesday nights, we are no stranger to maintenance. Every time there was a patch, our sessions were cut short. This wasn't such a big deal, because during summer, with Daylight Savings, we lost only a little of our game, or none at all. The rest of the year we were philosophical.
Tonight the extra maintenance (Halloween Extra Special Maintenance) utterly destroyed our night. The majority of sessions since maintenance has been moved to the earlier time space have run for about half an hour before maintenance has been announced with a rude red warning. This week we (for the first time ever) moved our night from Tuesday to Wednesday, only to have our session again ruined.
Your maintenance time is killing our group. _One_more_ downtime during our game and one of our most staunch and regular members will quit. This is not a threat, I am informing you what you have done to us.
Perhaps I might also take a moment to give you, the powers that be, an insight in to the Australian/Pacific community. While my role is quiet, there are three people who work tirelessly to promote the Australian community and encourage players to join together to do the things they enjoy. They have all posted in this thread and they are named Lili, Min Min and Redoubtable. These people have put weeks or months of their lives into making the Australian community a pleasure to be a member of. If you, NC Soft, lose these three ambassadors of your game, you will lose dozens of subscriptions and the game will be much poorer for it.
Redoubt has canceled one of his subscriptions. Min Min and Redoubtable are both seriously considering voting with their feet. This is the first time _ever_ they have been less than supportive of your company.
Be aware with this new maintenance window, every single time you have "Just one more downtime" because you can't get your act together, it is utterly destructive to our game in a way no patch or nerf has ever been.
If you do not take real, serious steps to stop urinating on our games from a great height, we will go and find something else to do with our time. This means no more sneaky, extra maintenance whenever you Gorram feel like it.
Yours,
FinalMidnight
I was very disappointing on the second week of the 'new' maintenance schedule, when we had -finally- moved from the 'every week except perhaps if the moon is full' Tuesdays, when maintenance hit, often and EARLY, and on WEDNESDAY we get hit with a 'publish' (which is just maintenance under a different name).
Yeah, I understand it's for CONTENT, but still,it's a major inconvenience.
It ruined our night, after six months of continually ruined nights.
I really hoped the recent 'new schedule' would work, but honestly, if these guys leave CoH, I'm folllowing them out the door -- broken promises and all that.
Excession.

I think what would make Final happy would be to have patches on Tuesday if at all possible (I think this is the current system), and to have several days advance warning of maintenance on any day other than Tuesday or Thursday.
The devs hate City of Villains, but they hate the Pacific region even more.

The main gathering place of villains? Islands.
Where the most hated villain group in the game came from? Island of Malta.
Where do giant monsters live, repeatedly? Islands.
Where can't you live if you want to take part in a CoH/V contest? An island.
It's isleophobia, I tells ya! ;-)

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):
I just relayed the following information with those who have voiced their concerns on the Justice boards and felt everyone here would want to know as well...
Recently, we shifted our hardware/network maintenance schedule from two separate North American and European server maintenance windows to two "Global" maintenance windows per week.
- Server maintenances occurred on Monday and Friday.
- Two in North America and two in Europe...four total.
- The recent shift brought our maintenance windows from four to two windows.
We've been monitoring the reactions from our Oceanic and EU players, and have decided to to move to only one "Global" maintenance window per week beginning Thursday, October 22nd.- Please note that we are doing this as a test / trial, and the new single-global-maintenance-window-a-week schedule is going to be heavily monitored and evaluated.
If we find that we need to go back to a two-global-maintenance-windows-a-week schedule, we will do so.This will not affect players located in North America, and will have a greater impact on Oceanic and European players.
