Ridiculous Extra Maintenance
I realised too late my poor choice of words. I shan't guess what would truly make Final happy, and I wouldn't wish it upon all of the console gamers.
That aside, a redname has posted in this forum already. They are aware, and they did change to support us. It's clearly still worse than it used to be, but hopefully we'll have consistent Tuesdays and Thursdays in coming days.
It's not great, but I'm trying to make do.
I'm really glad that they are trying. Changing maintenance to onceweekly is better thanit could been.
What would make me happy is if they pushed maintenance back two hours. Then they could run it every night of the week if they want, I would not care. Failing that, I want them to promise not to _ever_ run maintenance on two consistent week nights, so that both my once weekly groups can play. Both of them have moved their nights, and neither is safe from being utterly forked around.

There are times when patching must be done. I wouldnt expect NCsoft to promise what they cant deliver, and we are better off asking for things that are possible.
Be aware with this new maintenance window, every single time you have "Just one more downtime" because you can't get your act together, it is utterly destructive to our game in a way no patch or nerf has ever been. |
Not much worse than paying to play a game thats down mostly when you want to play.
And it makes it very hard to bring new addicts in.
I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.
So sad to be ending ):

Dev's the once a week maintenance is a big and appreciated step in the right direction but it is only fair to warn you about the growing feeling within the oceanic community. Over the last few months the number of patches and extra maintenance have taken an enormous toll on the enjoyment people in this region have with this game. In the past this has occurred between eleven or one am depending on the differring daylight saving so while it was an inconvenience it was not too bad as we still got a nights play out of it.
Once the shutdown times were moved back two hours this had a major impact on us. It was not just that we had our main playing night neutered but since issue 15 it has felt like we have been bombarded with patches and extra maintenances. Now this may just be a perception issue and it only feels like more because it occurs during our prime playing time but to the vast majority of the people I play with it feels like everytime we try to do anything that block of red text appears.
Now as a result the conversation of late in teams is dominated by several things. The shutdowns, the increase in the number of bugs that seems to be introduced with each "fix" and increasing discussion in who's moving to what new MMO. Hardly a team up goes by without people comparing Champions and Aion etc. And quite frankly Dev's most of the people I play with at the moment would be gone now and playing Champions if the game had turned out to be any good. And as for Aion we've lost more than a few friends to that one. Anyhow the upshot is your recent changes are doing major harm to this section of your userbase. Those of us who haven't left are cutting back on the number of accounts and most of us are trying out new MMO's.
The most frustrating part is all of us love the game. Hell if we didn't we wouldnt be so bothered by constantly being kicked out of it.
getting tired of them patching patches, I was of the understanding tuesday was reserved for patches and thursdays are for maintenance.
You can add my name to the list of people cancelling their 2nd accounts
@hard - @authorised
Little less conversation - little more action please
Tonight's extra maintenance is at the old time, we are being heard.
I've more or less completely given up on trying to figure out when maintenance is supposed to be, and am working on the assumption that every evening I will be locked out of the game.
It's a little sad that I've only just realized that what I actually preferred was not a better maintenance time, but rather consistency. A reliable schedule which I can look at and go "well, it's too bad I can't play at these times, but at least I can play at every other time".
I've been putting in my playtime during weekends, which, thanks to cost-cutting measures from Singapore's ISPs, tend to lag quite a bit. So it goes.

What's really driving me into frustration is that there's apparently nobody doing testing or quality control at NCSoft. If we released software into production that hadn't passed full regression testing, we'd get handed our walking papers. Taking down the servers three nights in a row at 9pm? I'd never work in Quality Control again.
The down time comes at 1 a.m. here in Hawaii, how about taking the servers down at 1 a.m. EASTERN time zone for a change. That would put our servers down at 5 or 6 p.m., depending on Daylight Savings Time on the East Coast.... perfect! We get to eat dinner and the game will be up when we are done! Feel that East coast love for a while.
My Arc - #51736 Here Wolf... There Wolf... Werewolf!!!
Don't worry about the mule going blind, just load the wagon.
>")))>< ~~~~
Anyone else thinking we'll get more downtime now tonight to fix this patch and reupload or will they be considerate enough to roll it into thursdays downtime?
Well, the servers did just go down so...

@Catwhoorg "Rule of Three - Finale" Arc# 1984
@Mr Falkland Islands"A Nation Goes Rogue" Arc# 2369 "Toasters and Pop Tarts" Arc#116617
Please be patient everyone. This was unexpected! It not like someone was sitting in Office giggling like me ^^;; going '' I bet we can angering the players tonight by putting down our servers! ''
o.0; Well maybe Christopher and Jason but those two exceptions.
I know you frustrated but please giving them all the time they need, it won't be too much longer now.
Thank you for your patience, and understanding!
Love,
Mishii! <3

Hey, was the extra downtime to turn off the Halloween event later than usual? It didn't hit until 18:15 GMT or so.
Is this evidence of consideration? I think it is.
Do you mean yesterday? I logged off five minutes before the scheduled time so I didn't notice.
Incidentally, the halloween event actually isn't off yet - looks like it will be around until tomorrow's maintenance.
Thought I'd jump back into the thread to say that I didn't walk away, as some have said I threatened to do. I never intended this - what I said was;
"I will, however, take my card away from the automatic debiting."
Seeing I'm on an annual plan, that wouldn't take effect for quite a while (and only hurt me - they'd still have the money). I did say that I would remove my card from automatic renewal if there was not some official comment in reply to the concerns expressed in this thread - that was happened, and whilst it hasn't been perfect, I think the situation has improved somewhat.
My point was that I was frustrated by a situation that seemed to be hitting players in our time zone (and those we play with regularly) the hardest. Perhaps my wording could have been better, but I still maintain the validity of that point.
I do thank Paragon/NCsoft for listening to the subscribers concerns and commenting and trying to come to some compromise. That's all anyone can ever ask in these situations.
Giving us five days notice does not help when we _still_ have to cancel our game. And if you try to play "Guess the day of the week!" and work around the stupid forking "fork you!" maintenance schedule, no members will ever turn up, because you can't build any momentum without consistency.
What would be nice if a red name came down here and acknowledged that the leaders of the three longest running, best attended Supergroups with the most subscribers have been driven to tears and are on the verge of quitting, taking their whole Supergroup with them to greener pastures.
In my fantasy the apology would go something like "We are really, really sorry. We understand how hard it has been for you, but we are juggling chainsaws without a net here. Please bear with us."
However, I have a feeling that my fantasy is as close as I am going to get.
