Heroes,
A decision has been made to move the Extraordinary 8 to Monday night. Those of you who would like to join a team of weekly Role Players, playing at level 36, should contact @FinalMidnight or respond to this reply.
Those of you who have been around for a while will recognize that the X8 is a long running RP group with a rich and detailed cannon.
So, take up the call. Be Extraordinary. The world won't save itself. -
Hey, was the extra downtime to turn off the Halloween event later than usual? It didn't hit until 18:15 GMT or so.
Is this evidence of consideration? I think it is. -
I started on Justice, and have never played seriously on any other server. For me Justice is all about community, and we have some great players there.
I know people are reluctant to move, but perhaps they could show up occasionally for events? Justice has a lot to offer. -
Quote:Killbot, perhaps you haven't been paying attention. Last week it was six hours over three nights, each and every one in prime time, canceling three or four organised pacific events. One to two hours per week of not being able to play the game is probably a good idea for our posture, wrists and psyches.
If it _were_ one or two hours a week, I would be thrilled beyond words. So far we have assurances that in the future it might be, but to date promises and delivery have been somewhat incongruent. To boil down the Dev's response: "Whoops, our bad. Sucks to be you."
Time will tell if they are capable of keeping their promise to minimise our inconvenience, but they are on notice. -
Quote:While I'm well aware of the gradual erosion of your once fearsome skills brought about by donning the neck-tie, my plan was for you to engage their PHBs in a meeting of the minds while Lili and Frozen get some real work done. I'll volunteer to write documents and test, because no one ever does that.I'm a manager these days so "highest skills and quality" probably translates more into "whatever I can bodgy up quickly to meet my deadline".
I could probably offer some PHB-skills and some good slave-driving expertise.
Don't be so hard on yourself, mate. I'm sure you are a _great_ manager, and now you fully understand why exceptional programmers often get paid less than call center operators and casual database entry staff. -
I do appreciate that people are paying attention to our plight. Thanks to TheOcho for coming over here and taking the time to address our concerns. That was very nice. Thank you for moving the maintenance time in an effort to be less obnoxious.
Seriously, if you guys need a hand we can organize a working bee. Lili, Min Min and Frozen Motion all all professional programmers of the highest skills and quality. It would be a great opportunity for us to return the love. -
Quote:What would make me happy is if they pushed maintenance back two hours. Then they could run it every night of the week if they want, I would not care. Failing that, I want them to promise not to _ever_ run maintenance on two consistent week nights, so that both my once weekly groups can play. Both of them have moved their nights, and neither is safe from being utterly forked around.I think what would make Final happy would be to have patches on Tuesday if at all possible (I think this is the current system), and to have several days advance warning of maintenance on any day other than Tuesday or Thursday.
Giving us five days notice does not help when we _still_ have to cancel our game. And if you try to play "Guess the day of the week!" and work around the stupid forking "fork you!" maintenance schedule, no members will ever turn up, because you can't build any momentum without consistency.
What would be nice if a red name came down here and acknowledged that the leaders of the three longest running, best attended Supergroups with the most subscribers have been driven to tears and are on the verge of quitting, taking their whole Supergroup with them to greener pastures.
In my fantasy the apology would go something like "We are really, really sorry. We understand how hard it has been for you, but we are juggling chainsaws without a net here. Please bear with us."
However, I have a feeling that my fantasy is as close as I am going to get. -
I've dusted off my forum account because I'm mad and I'm posting here with the small hope that someone else will read it and perhaps do something about it.
A word of introduction to those that don't know me. I'm an Aussie and I've been a member here going on for my fifth year. My friend Frozen Motion and I run the Extraordinary 8, which has been an ongoing weekly role playing super group in one form or another for more than four years. We get together once a week and we play the arc of characters from level one through fifty. This time through we've been writing just about all the content for original adventures ourselves. It takes eight or ten hours to write enough of an adventure for a three hour game, and much of the time they don't get enough testing (partly due to poor testing tools). There are literally more than one hundred comic covers up on our website http://www.extraordinary8.com representing hundreds of hours of work by our team members. Our membership has been extraordinarily faithful, with some members staying subscribed for more than an additional year just so they could play one night a week with our Supergroup.
When this iteration of the X8 began some thirty levels ago. We had eleven people wanting to play. There was literally a queue for spots on our team. This past month we have been lucky to get four, and two of us are the leaders.
As the X8 have always played on Tuesday nights, we are no stranger to maintenance. Every time there was a patch, our sessions were cut short. This wasn't such a big deal, because during summer, with Daylight Savings, we lost only a little of our game, or none at all. The rest of the year we were philosophical.
Tonight the extra maintenance (Halloween Extra Special Maintenance) utterly destroyed our night. The majority of sessions since maintenance has been moved to the earlier time space have run for about half an hour before maintenance has been announced with a rude red warning. This week we (for the first time ever) moved our night from Tuesday to Wednesday, only to have our session again ruined.
Your maintenance time is killing our group. _One_more_ downtime during our game and one of our most staunch and regular members will quit. This is not a threat, I am informing you what you have done to us.
Perhaps I might also take a moment to give you, the powers that be, an insight in to the Australian/Pacific community. While my role is quiet, there are three people who work tirelessly to promote the Australian community and encourage players to join together to do the things they enjoy. They have all posted in this thread and they are named Lili, Min Min and Redoubtable. These people have put weeks or months of their lives into making the Australian community a pleasure to be a member of. If you, NC Soft, lose these three ambassadors of your game, you will lose dozens of subscriptions and the game will be much poorer for it.
Redoubt has canceled one of his subscriptions. Min Min and Redoubtable are both seriously considering voting with their feet. This is the first time _ever_ they have been less than supportive of your company.
Be aware with this new maintenance window, every single time you have "Just one more downtime" because you can't get your act together, it is utterly destructive to our game in a way no patch or nerf has ever been.
If you do not take real, serious steps to stop urinating on our games from a great height, we will go and find something else to do with our time. This means no more sneaky, extra maintenance whenever you Gorram feel like it.
Yours,
FinalMidnight
