Wanted: A good color combination

I've got a DA/Ele brute that I have started having problems playing because of the dizzying/disorienting effects on the dark armor once I have all the toggles on. It wasn't a problem when I only had a couple of toggles, but now that I'm up to 6, it makes me motion sick. And that's with putting everything that can be set "no fx" to "no fade or pulse".

So I'm trying to find a color combination that will allow me to play her and not have to reroll...

Any suggestions?

i'm not really sure that changing the colors will help if it is the effects that make it hard to play for you.

Yeah, I'm afraid not, but I'm hoping someone can come up with a "magic" solution >.>

let's see, it's a purply black and red color now... try maybe a light color effect blue/green mix maybe... or off white/orange. the light color effect should cut down on the flow look of the miasma i think.

You could also press the "B" button and play in first person mode rather than third person mode. That may cut down on more of the visual effects though it may take some getting used to.

Well, we've narrowed it down to murky cloud and death shroud that are the worst ones. I could probly do without either of those. The rest, with the "no fx" options set, are playable.

Aaand, a friend with a really good color sense helped me get everything to a playable point!! Woot! I don't have to reroll her

Might as well post what you did to fix it so anyone with the same problem might find it.

i was gonna say, you kinda need murky cloud. it's one of your shields. but glad to hear you got it fixed.

Sharker was right. Go with light colors. I'd tried white and a light yellow, but neither worked because I either kept pairing it with the same light color or with an opposite dark. When I did two similar but different light colors, near white but not quite white, it make both murky cloud and death shroud much easier to manage visually. I ended up with two shades of golden orange/yellow. My friend has done it with pink/purple.

Try this:
/suppressCloseFx 1
/suppressCloseFxDist 300

Wow! Redname to my question and maybe first after a redname!

Thanks Babs, I'll give that a try!

I do this, but I just wish that certain things like the stone mallets were not suppressable effects, and it was restricted to the auras. Swinging empty hands looks silly.

SuppressFX is *not* supposed to suppress weapons (or capes or selectable auras). If it does, it's a bug. Send a PM to BAB about it (and a /bug report for QA) so that it's flagged not to suppress.

I had thought that Stone Mallet was technically a power effect, not a weapon like War Mace, Axe, etc.

POSSIBLY This. Isn't Stone Mallet customizable through the power cust system and NOT the weapon cust system?

I don't have any problems unless Death Shroud and Cloak of Darkness are on. Then I get bursts of graphics lag with each step I take. The wispy darkness powers cause the worst performance in the game on my display card.

The "suppressCloseFxDist 300" works great, by the way.

It is, but I still doubt it was meant to suppress.

Yes, bug. Capes, Auras, Weapons are supposed to be flagged to not suppress.

Well that's good to know, it sounds relatively easy to fix - I hope its as easy as it sounds to fix - although I should probably know it isn't as easy as changing some flags in a MUD.

I may HAVE to do this with some of my lesser played alts (with many powersets picked to fit into a VG "theme") - especially the toggles/armors Villain-side on Brutes and Stalkers.
My aging (somewhat decrepit) computer's video card tends to overheat when I'm trying to play various a characters. I'm looking to build a new-ish one and set this one aside for web-browsing, winamp, and whatnot.
I can't get past the character generator in Aion before it overheats - and I'm just barely above the minimum reqs for Aion - which ain't that bad (IMHO) for a 5 yr. old PC...

So yeah, this /suppressCloseFx command may indeed be a true "alt-saver" or at least let me play them between now and whenever I manage to get a new machine.

Can I get a reference of how far the distances are on that? I like all of my dark armor toggles (only one i've changed for i16 was cloak of darkness to the no fade/pulse), but I've notice I lose a lot of FPS whenever terrain causes my camera to get too close to my char. So I'm looking for a range that basically says "suppress DA FX when 1/3rd of the screen is my character".

I experimented a bit and went with a distance of 30. With more testing, I found my biggest problem is when I'm moving (which makes sense). I generally keep my camera at about 20 to 30 when moving around (which is enough for the toon to be centered and see the full body) and I'm finding I *really* like this.

Use /camdist # to set the camera at a specific range (ie, /camdist 30). That will allow you to hone in on the exact distance you're looking for, which you can use for the fx suppression distance

Neato. Thanks.
