Blind invite lol

I will send a PM asking if they want to help with mishes. If I don't get a response from them whithin a min, I will send a invite to team. Why? Because they may be on a trial account and can't comment back. I mean, besides being afk, anybody else would be polite enough to say yes or no to my PM.

As long as you are aware trials don't go past level 14.

On a similar note, i had my search comment a few days ago saying "not lft sorry". This is what happened [obviously not exact words]

Player A: Hi there want to join us? Doing radio missions in kings.
Me: No thanks im semi-afk so wouldnt be much use but ty anyway.
Player A: Ah sorry just noticed your search comment, sorry for the PM.

When a player actually says sorry for a slight mistake like that, they instantly get some form of positive rep in my eyes.

Not advocating Blind Invites (I form teams every night and NEVER use Blinds), but I've often wondered - how much time is "polite", to allow between Invites (via Tells)?

20 mins. should be plenty of time for someone to finish shopping, crafting, storing, etc....even running their own mish.

So I think Inviting someone twice, 20 mins. apart, is acceptable (note: didn't say Blind Inviting).

Is it Necroposting if the thread has only been inactive a few days?

Eh...

Well, today, I got one of the more hilarious Blind Invites of my short career.

I had made a Brute to test out Redside, and this guy sent me repeated blind team invites. That is acceptable, I suppose. Sure, the fact he did it 5 times was annoying, but acceptable.

But then, I received a blind leveling pact request.

As the people on the Guardian global channel have stated... "That's... special."

Do you really want to entrust half of your total experience and inf earnings to a person you've never spoken too before, and who might never log into that toon again? (I mean, I would have logged in again, but would he?)

I think it may have had something to do with my High Collar. (Level 3 Brutes with Cape Like Objects aren't common, I guess...) I'm not sure. O_o

(Oh, and I made a search comment. )

I logged in a few (dozen) characters in the week just to customise their powers (as I can't play atm - I've injured my arm) and had my first blind invite in ages.

I must have spent 15-20mins customising my Dark/Sonic Defender - afterwards, when I exited the tailor screen, there was an invite window up, but no /tells. My character was hidden from global channels and searches (inviter was hidden from search too) and she was already inside Icon for the dayjob so it's not like anyone saw her outside.

That means someone must have come inside Icon (presumably to change their costume/powers), seen my character stood next to a tailor, then decided to fire off a blind invite

I guess some teams are so desperate for Defenders they'll try anything. Or maybe they thought there was a fashion-based Task Force inside Icon

Nah - I do that - not everyone has time to check the forums every day, so sometimes I don't notice a topic I'd like to contribute to until 4-5 days later. Worst that can happen is no-one posts after you and you feel like a thread-killer, but then you can just convince yourself it was dead anyway before you posted

Actually, i try to convince myself that i personally killed the thread. Especially if it was active until my post. Then i put another notch in my bedpost. (Yes, i'm a strange, confused person. Even worse, my bed has no posts, so i've been using a pirate's wooden leg instead.)

Unless they were, oh I dunno, looking at something that takes up the entire screen and thus didn't see your tell. Besides, it has nothing to do with politeness. If I'm futzing with a costume or SG details, I'm not going to stop what I'm doing and back up (perhaps losing the train of thought I had going) just because I hear a 'doo-doot' sound indicating a tell. No offense, but I'm busy and will get to you when I get to you. I often shut off invites (via the teaming menu or /lftset 128) but I can't expect everyone to do the same.

I always find it funny when folks send blind invites....to people not accepting invites.

When Cap was in the mid-40s I used to get badgered constantly to bridge for people or pad teams, both of which tasks, as I understand them, mainly involve hanging around just inside the instance door and letting other people actually play the game. That doesn't particularly interest me, and I got tired of all the requests, so I eventually changed my search comment to "No, I won't bridge or pad for you."

Shortly thereafter I got a message from some random stranger to the effect of, "lol i didnt know any1 was stupid enough to refuse free xp."

I like your reported experience better.

I have a character that has "If you invite me, I will get you debt" as his search comment. I was sent a tell once "That sounds like a challenge". He was polite enough to not send an invite.

As you can tell from that search comment, I don't really like to team up all that much with people that I don't know. Yes, I know. My loss.

There I was between a rock and a hard place. Then I thought, "What am I doing on this side of the rock?"

I would have accepted and then just not logged the character in for a few days. Worst that happens is you get no xp, annoy an idiot, and have to break a meaningless pact! With the second item, that's practically a net gain.

Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

I've recently reversed my Blind Invite policy, at least internally, even though my search tag still reads "No Blind Invites". The thing is, I realised it had been far too long since I had any really wacky PUG experiences, and that I enjoy having the stories to tell enough to balance the headache the teams usually wind up being. If the team turns out to actually be functional, just lead by a blind inviter, then I politely withdraw.

The minimum-necessary-effort /tells before a rapid fire invite still get me pretty cranky, though. The ones that read "LFT?", followed a nanosecond later by the invite window appearing. It's like they saw the "No Blind Invites" tag, but couldn't understand what that actually means, like the /tell is just a ritual behavior for the sake of good manners rather than a request for some information about the actual team they want me to join. True Blind Inviters, at least, I can assume just don't know about search comments.

Even funnier is when they send an angry /tell demanding that you turn your invites on!

Even funnier than that is when I say "OK", turn my invites on, wait for them to re-invite, and then turn them down anyway.

So this thread got me digging through my old Bad PUG Story archives, and ran across this gem from a couple years back.

I was cruising around Grandville for the first time, enjoying the exploration (and not enjoying the lag). An invite pops up, and I swat it down immediately. Then I get the following /tell. This is all a direct quote, CAPSLOCK, txtspk, lack of punctuation, all preserved in its original glory.

"Y U NO TEAM"

"I don't accept blind invites, sorry", a fact that was stated clearly in my search comment.

"OH OK LFT", followed immediately by a second invite window, which I declined.

"U SAID NO AGAIN AFTER I SEND TELL"

"Right, see, the point of wanting a /tell before an /invite is to get some information about the team, so I can decide if I'm interested in joining."

"OK WE DOIN THE RADIO IN PO", the Radio contact, not the police radio missions blueside. This, again, was followed by an immediate invite window, which I declined.

"Y U TURN DOWN AGAIN"

"I'm level 40, and your team is running level 10-15 content."

"PLZZZ I BE UR FREND FOREVER", followed again by an immediate invite, which I declined.

"I'm sorry, I don't know you, and what I've seen of you so far doesn't really make me that interested in the sort of long-term contact that 'FREND FOREVER' suggests, much less the short-term contact of a team with you."

"OK LOL", followed of course by another invite window, which I declined.

"NOW UR MAKIN ME MAD"

"I'm sorry to hear that. But I'm still not interested in teaming with you. Maybe you'll get better results searching for people in your level range?"

"LOL I FORGIV U", followed, of course, by another invite. Which I declined.

"THAS IT IM REPORT YO"

"Report me? To the GMs? For not accepting your repeated and clearly unwelcome invites to a team going through content that would provide me no reward? If you feel you must..."

"THIS A MMO SO U NEED HAVE TEAM THIS THE LAST TIME ACEPT OR FACE THE CONSEQUENCES". I was floored by the fact that he could spell consequences. But the seventh and final invite window was still declined.

The GMs still haven't contacted me about his petition.
