You'll have to tune in and find out :3
Think of it this way: if I give you direction on how to draw a circle, I can do it two ways.
1) Pick a point. Using a radius of X, draw a line around the fixed point.
2) Make a grid. Fill in the following boxes: <giant list of dots>
#1 is vectors. It doesn't matter if you're drawing a small circle or a big one, the instructions are the same with only the values changing.
#2 is a bitmap/raster image. I'm telling you specifically where to put dots, and if you're drawing a larger picture, I have to give you a new list.
Most art you see is bitmaps. We paint on a screen and the position and colour of the pixels are stored in the JPG. If I make a large picture, then the file gets bigger.
Vector art is dynamically resizeable because it is created using math (i.e., vectors) instead of bitmaps (i.e., by placing pixels).
There's advantages to both. Typically, it'd wouldn't be feasible to do most of the art you see here in vectors. Ironically, my cel-shaded style is pretty well-suited to it, but I find Illustrator to be a cruel mistress.
Dang, I probably just should've directed you to read this:
Vector Graphics
Wow, there are some people doing some incredible things in vectors.
Really amazing
Yeah there are people that can do photorealistic work with vectors. They're weird people, but people nonetheless.
Anyway i'll cover some of the basics. Even if you are pretty much a straight up raster/brush sort of person, there are times when using vectors and paths come in really handy.

I'm more curious about the bottle of lime-green liquid ice cream.
I did this with vectors!!!!!!!
And yeah, those people that can do photorealistic stuff with vectors make me want to poke their brain with a fork and see what it does.
Hmm. Can you do gradients with vectors? I think I might be able to do something with them if that's the case.
I took enough math course to know that a vector is a shape with both a magnitude and a direction, such as a line 2.07' long along the x-axis.
So...looking forward to the line work!

Yes you can. There are a number of basic fills and gradients that you can use with vectors that are also based on mathematic algorithms so they scale with the linework as well. I'm quite positive that there are all new and intricate patterns and fills to make use of now. It's been years since I touched illustrator or flash at all.

Gradient meshes in Illustrator make me want to throw things.
I's downloadin' Inkscape.

(that should at least have some useful links...)
Augh, nerd jokes!
Ok this is tonight, and I've vectored my butt off the last few days so I've got some good info on using Illustrator for linework, doing gradient effects, etc. Everything I'm going to show is being done with a mouse as well.

Vectors are a VERY touchy subject. All.... math and whatnot.
I don't miss the days of having to vector MY butt off for Digital Illustration, I gotta tell ya ^.^
bummer man! My condolences for your loss
vector work is kinda cool though.
