You guys still here?
SOE. You know, the same company that published Star Wars Galaxies, The Matrix Online, and Vanguard.
Oh, and DC Universe Online won't necessarily be free, but it will be subscription-less. I suspect it will follow the same model as Guild Wars.
@Celestial Lord and @Celestial Lord Too
Again, I am now giving it the benefit of the doubt since you've mentioned it is in pre-alpha. But, I can probably show you some beautiful pictures of Detroit that might make you want to move there.

Heh, I've been there, nough said.
If you thought DC was further along it definitely would be a disappointment, but if you compare it's pre-alpha state to coh/cov & co which all looked and played like crap, I'd say I'm pretty interested in seeing the finished product.
"And, free is a wonderful price. If that's true, I am sure I'll give it a shot."
Free is a pretty smart choice since they're entering the market late behind cox/co.

Never played any of their mmos, but they also made Evercrack 1 and 2 (#1 was so popular people had to get counseling to quit), sony acquired Matrix from Warner (taking a mess off their hands so they could get the rights to DCO), and all of SWG's problems were LucasArts fault (the nge was completely their idea, so was the time line).
Vanguard was an absolute bomb like Tabula Rasa for ncsoft, but let's not pretend we're not going to be interested in a subscription free game based on DC comics, just because the dreaded sony is producing it, or even because of some lifetime sub w/ co.
Yeah, saying "SOE made it so it must suck" is getting to be a tired argument. I doubt any development company has batted a thousand with their library of games.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
The thing that worries me about SoE is their tendency with a few games to release a new paid expansion every 3 - 6 months. They may have relaxed a bit on that front, but that was ultimately a large part of what made me leave EQ.
But as I said, if there really is no subscription, I figure it will at least be worth a look now.

Do you /have/ to buy the expansions like you /have/ to download them in CoH to play the game? Or are the expansions like if you don't buy them you cant access a certain area or soemthing like that?

To make a comparison, imagine that with Going Rogue they released an entirely new batch of IOs that put the bonuses from any rare/ultra rare set to shame, but they only dropped from a certain enemy group in the new zones. Now, imagine that everyone was able to at least guess what you had slotted just by how you appeared and would make a decision whether or not to team with you based on whether you had those enhancements or not.
I am still here. I did the beta testing on CO and cancelled my preorder.
CoH / CoV is my first and only!
Demonfest - 50 - Demon / Thermal Mastermind
Covered Shadow - 50 - Dark Melee / Shield Scrapper

"And you'll never have to." - the Dark Knight
Well, no subscription fee does make it something to try out, regardless of who makes it, I must say. Not to mention the whole superhero theme. If there is one thing that could pull me away from CoH, it would be a better superhero MMO.

I'm interested in seeing the game get more refinement as it works it's way through alpha/beta, especially with the animations which are very rough right now, because who the hell doesn't want to fight alongside Superman Batman and Wonder Woman.
With EQ it was that you couldn't access a certain area, which doesn't seem like a big deal until you considered that EQ was very gear based (of course) and that you would have to travel to the newest place to get the best gear.

After reading a few posts, I am more convinced than ever. The last 5 years have been awesome. Not only did I chose the best game for my first MMO, but most definitely the right server to call home. Already salivating over the new builds I will create in i16. My altitis will never be satisfied, and you guys will be there to help feed my habit.
Obsessed with badges since issue #2. 1390 and counting. Thanks BMT and Nexus

The guy who was explaining the controls did not mention it being in pre-alpha, and for whatever reason, I want to say he said pre-beta.
So, it made me think what I had at my hands was what would be pushed out for the masses to play, and it was sorely disappointing. It gave me the clap.
As I mentioned in a post about a month back, right as I got back from Cali', I mentioned how some of the cooler things was Super Speed taking you up walls, across water and on ceilings, as Flash and one of the created characters were zipping around doing.
(It did not look as cool as Synapse, but again .. pre-alpha)
And, in a gameplay video they showed off to the side, there were created characters fighting alongside Green Lantern. Green Lantern is baller.
Alas, I think it's the lack of subscription fee that's the most enticing, as I like Marvel more than DC (face it, their villains are terriBAD) and I still pay for this and Conan. And, if people go to Aion, I'll need like Kat to pay for my sub there.
"I do it better than anybody you've ever seen do it.
The screams from the haters, it's got a nice ring to it.
I guess every super hero needs his theme music .."
Who is putting out DCU?
