About the reputation system...

I have one that has foul language and while I may have deserved the negative rep, I don't deserve to be forced to deal with foul language.
I'd imagine that either PMing a mod or using the report button on the post that got negative rep would be the best options.

Report the post(s) that got the nasty comments and in the comment box, tell the mods to look at your rep comments. It's a good idea to copy/paste the offensive one(s) if you have a lot of comments.

Right, because the forum is absolutely not already being cluttered with posts about 1) Rep farming, 2) Complaining about negative rep, and 3) Complaining about this pointless system in general. It's an important outlet with no negative consequences whatsoever.

Certainly didn't mean to imply it had no negative effects, just that despite those effects it's not likely to go anywhere. Hope that helps clear up the difficulty you had understanding my post.

Realistically I tend to agree (maybe eventually if it gets to be a big enough problem, but not so soon), but my main issue was with your first statement of "function" which is only inaccurate in just about every single way.

Ohh, you just need to argue. I got it now. Ok, you win! I was wrong. Ten points for Gryffindor!

Ironically, this sad little exchange only proves my point.

Not according to the vbulletin forums. Ratings are scaled.

For example: (random numbers)
PersonA has 500 rep
PersonB has 0 rep
PersonC has 0 rep

PersonB +reps PersonA. PersonA gains 0rep.
PersonC +reps PersonB. PersonB gains 10rep.
PersonA +reps PersonC. PersonC gains 50rep.

My rep is turned off. I rep people all the time and it doesn't show up as a Grey dot. I know this because when I rep people who have 0 rep still, their button instantly turns green.

I assume you were trying to prove it to me, but I'm sorry it didn't work the way you expected:

I just repped you back with my reputation off as well.

Grey dots are from people who haven't earned enough rep of their own to have "repping power" against you. Turning off your rep doesn't disable the feature, it just hides your value from being displayed.. just like the option states:
Quote:
If you would like to hide your reputation, disable this option.
People with their rep hidden can still rep other people normally, even other people who also have rep hidden.

I get defensive when people question my intelligence; the rest of that thread was myself trying in vain to explain that I was not against all farming, just AE farming.
Sorry for the confusion.. my thoughts don't always make it out my head in a coherant manner. The name calling comment referred to your first post.

Ah, no worries. And yeah, I see what you mean. Like I said, I get defensive. 90% of the time it's in response to someone jumping down my throat. But I will admit, I do have bad days. Anywho, the reps have been reported proper.

In the few days I've decided to revisit the forums I've managed to rack up -11 rep with just two posts: one a lighthearted ribbing at people taking the I16 MA xp changes way too seriously, and the other a geniune request for help with something. The fact I can apparently induce indignance so effectively is something I'd (almost) bear with pride, and it's hard not to feel smug when the only rebuttal someone can throw at you is "shut up moron". Plus, mousing over my red dot to read "Marty Rallner can only hope to improve" is rather amusing, too.

This talk about rep-farming is more unsettling, however. It sounds way too much like the pageview addicts on dA who honestly believe the amount of traffic their page gets is an indication of their talent and status as a superior individual (a hilarious example can be seen here, and no this guy is not a troll ). If anybody thinks an arbitrary and easily-manipulated scoring system is good for their ego or impressing others, said scoring system better be taken away before the insufferability and obsession spreads to infect newcomers. Heck, keep the anonymous "j00 scukz0rs" message system so that the easily indignant can vent their displeasure, just remove the E-go buffing setup.

And to move back off that personal tanget and get back to the OP, report garbage like that ASAP. Idiocy like that needs to be dealt with extreme prejudice (Irony!)

Currently, it says:
"MartyRallner has a little shameless behaviour in the past"

I'd give you a (+), but I don't know if you wanted to keep that phrase or not. lol

Edit:
Ok, I gave you a (+) anyway and you're in the Green now!
"MartyRallner is on a distinguished road" lol

Wow, I really gave you a boost. lol

So are we farming rep phrases now?

The rep system COULD have been useful, especially to newbies. But the "rep farmers" basically made the whole thing pointless.

IMHO the mods should take it out.

So the rep system is the new meow?

Hey board mods! Disable this garbage please.
It's trash to you. Don't assume it is for everyone.

Exactly. If somebody REALLY doesn't want to see the comments either, they can just hit the (-) on that section:

It should stay closed every time you visit your CP.

Yes, I was just made aware of this last night. Regardless, the system is clearly causing issues, given how many threads people are starting over it.

I'd say it more so seems that people would complain about anything (such as the posts complaining about how no body wanted power customization).

Fixed that for you. The fact that there are a lot of threads means people find it an interesting topic of discussion. It may be good, bad or simply.... interesting.

Personally, I've gotten a lot of amusement from it. As an example:
Someone gave me -rep in a thread with the comment: aaaaaa
I thought that was funny and posted in the thread about it.
Minutes later, I had a +rep with the comment: bbbbbb

Ok, this has been bugging me for a while now. I was away from the game when the AE was released so I missed these. Can someone tell me why they were called meow farms?

Thanks
