taking suggestions for a proposed 'free inf' guide
I like to run solo Lt farms. Of course, with the changes in I16, it will take some tweaking, but let's just assume that you're running AE missions and earning close to the ticket cap on each mission, if you aren't exceeding it.
|
I've run AE missions as a level 50 Scrapper or Tanker, normal diff and invincible, some apparent boss farms, some apparent LT farms, and some general missions.
I never get anything like remotely close to the ticket cap. I might get 300-900 tickets for a whole mission. Sometimes I get to the end of a 4-5 mission arc (where there should be a higher ticket bonus) and get... 86 tickets as the bonus (not counting kills).
The 52 bosses give better tickets per kill, but it takes significant time for my IO-ed out, soft-capped, MA/SR Scrapper to kill each boss; I don't see how it's so effective over time.
I can grind and thrash my way to 5000 tickets or so for a gold roll but it takes me a few nights.
Now I am doing this solo. Are you guys using fillers to get these big hauls of tickets? I don't want to use fillers. Heck, I don't really want to farm, per se. I just haven't been able to figure out how some folks are hauling in "the ticket cap" in one mission.

Grinding bosses just sets my nerves on edge and makes me cringe when I see, "AE boss farm, lfm," in the broadcast window. I do generally enjoy playing with other people, but those boss farms are generally much too tedious for me.
Anyway, I've never paid attention to the specific numbers on how many tickets I am earning on each mission, but i know it's over 1K for each. The end of mission bonus is always between 550 and 600 tickets by itself. If you're interested in hard numbers, I think I'll have time tonight to run a hand full of missions and let you know the stats.
I've been making posts on how my Kat/WP scrapper has been doing with the new difficulty slider over in that other thread here on the market forums.
Just remember, the key to drops is to defeat as many enemies in as little time as possible. To do this, you want the difficulty setting lower, not higher. Until I16 is released, you're better off using difficulty level 2 or 4 to get more baddies.
.."closing in on the ticket cap."..MA/SR Scrapper to kill each boss..gold roll..takes me a few nights.

If you're not devoted to farming with that toon, you might try something that has AOE damage to more effectively wipe out spawns. You might also try running even level lieutenants instead of +2-+4 bosses, since you'll have a higher ticket/hr count that way.
When people are focused on ticket farming, they get into the biggest team possible to increase spawn sizes and wipe out a large map full of +0 lieutenants. Once someone gets to around 800 tickets gained, they click the blinky to end the mission and get the completion bonus, which is equivalent to the number of tickets gained thus far. Ideally you race to 750 tickets ASAP and complete the mission to double that number.
In a good team, you can average 100-120 tickets per minute. That's about 100-120 bronze rolls or 1-2 gold rolls per hour. Even though there's a sensation that you're making a bunch of profit fast, you're typically better off running TFs or SFs for gold rolls - it's easier to make 20 merits an hour than 3700 tickets. For bronze rolls, AE's the only game in town, and they tend to be more profitable than gold rolls - you can throw away 50 recipes for every one that's worth selling. It takes about 50 bronze rolls to cost as much as a gold roll, and that gold roll could be Ghost Widow or some other undesirable set.
That might be something to add to the guide - roll bronze, find out what the expensive pieces are, sell the expensive ones and trash the rest.
Get to level 50.
Run content (Imperious Task Force, missions, whichever)
Craft your uncommon and rare recipes and sell them on the Market.
Run AE missions with friends.
Use tickets in the 30-34 range Bronze roll. Some like 10-14 Bronze Roll.
As with previous, craft and sell on the Market.
Learn to cross-pollinate efficiently:
If salvage sells high on the Market, bust some of those tickets for a few million return.
If Pool Cs are low, save up for a few random rolls or just roll in the 40-45 range and sell the results.
If content such as new powersets arrives, check what kind of abilities (Range Damage, Defense, etc) and plan ahead for the demand.
Use Double XP and weekends to your advantage. Bid on stacks of 10 rare salvage, then re-list them for much more a few days later.
Study how much a recipe costs and how much the crafted IO costs. Figure out if it's worth your effort to be the middle.

Commenting on the MA/SR AE farmer problem thing. Make Your OWN map, fill it with Zenith Mech Men, Reflections group, boss's i beleive. They have a weakness to SMASHING damage, which might help you out a little.
The only market trick I used back when the market first came out was vendoring common salvage to get a couple of thousand. Then I would bid way low on level 25 common recipes (stun, confuse, range, crap like that) and resell them for 6-9 thousand a piece. Do that for a while and it gets me through the DO range.
Now I'm trying to learn more advanced techniques. I made close to a billion farming bosses in AE and doing bronze rolls, getting some lucky gold rolls, but while doing this I was also SPENDING a lot.
I currently have a soft-capped fire/shield scrapper that can survive just about ANYTHING and he's sitting on about 500 million...and wanting MOAR!! My plan is to do solo 8 man radios for fun and profit! Too bad purple prices are gonna go back to normal...probably.

It takes more time yet if it involves IO sets as you have to manage the recipes too, along with keeping a balance between salvage/recipes/crafted IO's so that you don't overload on any part of it. More than once I've caught myself with too many crafted IO's waiting to sell, or too many recipes still waiting for low bid salvage to come through, or rack/inventory/recipe space to clear up without having to run to base. Juggling all this so that it turns over smoothly while keeping an eye on earning a good profit is a continuous effort that requires more thought and time than other inf earning methods.
In short:
Flipping: Salvage only (quick and easy, no crafting work - generally modest to good rewards, mild risk)
Generic memorized IO crafting: Salvage and IO only (fairly quick and easy, 5 min. login is par - good rewards per transaction, minimal risk )
IO recipe crafting: Salvage, IO and recipes (takes more time to study and manage - highest rewards per transaction, higher risk)

It's my favorite spot to vendor and super easy for a lowbie.
no NPCs that spawn anywhere in between the 10 second trip back and forth |
still a great place to market for lowbies, since it's little more than 100yds to
the "store" NPC.
Steel Canyon is also pretty good if you have Fly or Super Jump.
The nice thing about SC is that you can craft there also (as a lowbie).
On the villain side, Port Oakes is decent. You can craft there (Abandoned Lab),
but it's a toodle across the bay to do it, and the run to the quartermaster,
while nearby also has a couple Family spawns along the route.
Sharkhead is good with SJ or Fly (so you can skip over the scrapyarders),
and St. Martial is my fav since it's pretty close to the quartermaster and
an Abandoned Lab as well...

Anyway! What I did was run AE arcs, then go to the ticket vendor and fill up with bronze rolls, then fill up with 50/50 arcane/tech common salvage. While I deleted obvious lemons from the recipes I got, it's not really necessary.
You head to the market, see which recipes are worth crafting (by looking at the going rates and demand of the crafted IO, not the recipe), fill whatever gaps of salvage you have with the market itself, craft, sell IOs, sell remaining salvage, back to AE.
And it's not even necessary to farm. I was running story arcs, and they still provide nice rewards.
Also, I always ALWAYS rolled at the highest possible range for my character for Bronze Recipes. When she was under 10, 10-14. And so on.
Reason? Some recipes (like procs, but others from sets with good bonuses) sell very high at its minimum level. I could roll at 20-24 when I was level 17, and got a level 21 Performance Shifter +End that sold very handsomely when crafted. Low-leveled recipes like Crushing Impact, which starts at 30 and you can start rolling for at 27, may also sell well, it's the lowest you can go (good for exemplaring purposes), so they're popular.
This way you also stumble upon niches where you can craft for profit (for example, you find out that a recipe that's not worth much sells nicely if it's crafted, so you can buy some more and craft them).
Going this way she is sitting at some 70 million, just dinged level 29. Just rolling anytime I had enough tickets, haul to the market when full to check, craft, and sell, and back to playing.

yeah, I'm going to try and stay away from complicated stuff like "percentages" and use concrete numbers whenever possible (like "bid 25k on a bunch of level 30 recharge reductions, re-list for 100k").
I figure anyone who actually uses these strategies will be able to figure out the details of more complicated schemes themselves without too much effort.
