Was this confirmed somewhere? If so, I'm excited. I was wondering when they were going to get around to doing it, since they said they would at some point.

No word as yet on which sets will get a fifth power (it says most which implies that some won't) or what the powers will be.
"Additionally, we also conducted a mini-proliferation pass on the Ancillary and Patron Power Pools, adding 5th powers to most Pools and adding Blaze Mastery for Scrappers. This has been something which people have been asking for since Fire primaries and secondary's were given to them."

Awesome news! I'd now officially consider this a "big" issue. There's a lot more in it than just the recoloring of powers, unlike the smaller issues we've had up until now. This one has a lot of new features, and the added powers for epics just tips it over the scale for me personally.

To answer the OP's question, probably nobody knows anything more than what's said in that interview. If they did know, it would probably be breaking the NDA.

I believe that is confirmation, but no real info on what it all entails.

EDIT: looks like I got beaten to the punch.

The problem is villains already have 5 powers in the Patron Pools, but still only have 4 Pools to choose from.

VEATs only get 4

and I think Brute only gets 4 for Mu Mastery

Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
*Arc #95278-Gathering the Four Winds -3 step arc; challenging - 5 Ratings/3 Stars (still working out the kinks)
*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars

Yup. All the other villain epics have 5, except the ones you said. Specifically, the ones with only 4 include:

Blasters:
Flame
Force

Controllers:
Fire
Psi

Defender:
Dark
Power

Scrapper:
Body
Dark

Tank:
Energy

Brute:
Mu

VEATs:
All 4

This will be a good chance for the Mu epic for Brutes to get a good power on-par with some of the other awesome choices. Also a good chance for the devs to either wow everyone or drop the ball on the 5th power for VEATs, although I suspect they'll be something average like holds (or not do them at all since the post did say "most"). I'm just waiting to see what some of the other ones get, like Force Mastery, and what the new Scrapper epic consists of.

Ok, none of my Brutes have Mu and none of my VEATS have any Patron Pools. So I guess I never saw any of them lacking. We still need another pool or 2, I want some more Ice powers for my Ice/Ice Dom.

Ice Mistral for Patron

Ice Mistral for Patron
You are aware that Ice Mistral is basically the sidekick of Scirocco? As are Wretch, Silver Mantis and Barracuda to the other Patrons.

Not to mention at least two of those are Task Force contacts (albeit one through the Mission Computer, lolbases), and can't be regular contacts (for patron arcs) at the same time.

I still don't see why villains can't get Ancillary pools, especially with Going Rogue coming up. Heroes should be able to get Patrons of their own for that matter.

Black Scorpion, Scirroco, Mako, and Ghost Widow are basically sidekicks of Recluse.

It's called a chain of command.

And if Silver Mantis and Barracuda are any indication, the other two are likely to be used as Strike Force contacts. Though the concept of a Wretch Strike Force is hilarious.

I don't understand what you're saying. A sidekick is okay as a patron, but their sidekick isn't? What layer of the chain-of-command cake does it stop being okay for them to be a patron? And they're okay to give you really important, really difficult tasks designed for 8 people to do and conquer the world, but not teach you how to use a couple ice powers?

I thought a chain of command is what my dad hit me with when I forgot to mow the lawn.

Personally, I want Peter Themari to be a Patron. I don't think it'll ever, ever happen, but man, that guy's awesome. In his information window, where most contacts have their job listed, Peter Themari's just says "Reprobate". Yes, Peter Thamari's job is being irredeemably corrupt.

Plus, he's not Arachnos-affiliated, so players could have a Patron Pool without being wedged into the whole "Destined One" song-and-dance routine.

Ice Mistral Strike Force is 35-40.

I've long been in favor of a Wretch Strike Force. Go save wretch's puppy!

My money is on Blaze Mastery being a copy of Pyre Mastery.

I found a great Wretch AE arc: 1008 "The Wretch's Gift". It's Developer's Choice even.

South Park for avatars

Protector: Postmaster Bot/FF

Virtue:
Postal Express (Tech Blaster, AR/Dev)
Nukular Man (Sci Defender, Rad/Rad)

Gotta admit, it's an excellent counter to you initially refering to ice, wretch, etc as sidekicks. To which, your accurate readdressing it as a chain of command kills your sidekick argument

How does it kill my argument?

I shouldn't call it so much a chain as a pattern. War Witch has lamented that an NPC can only serve one function at a time, as a programming limitation- the reason that she can be a trainer in Pocket D, but not a contact or snarky NPC at the same time.

Now, look at the Arachnos high command- Recluse himself is a Strike Force contact. His four lieutenants (Ghost Widow and co.) are regular contacts for the Patron arcs. And their lackeys- Silver Mantis and Barracuda so far- are Strike Force contacts. Though Wretch and I think one of the others hasn't been programmed in yet, I think it's safe to assume that they will be used for Strike Forces of their own.

And they can't be Patron contacts because they can't be a regular contact and a Strike Force contact at the same time. So unless we're gonna talk to them through yet another set of lackeys, they can't be used as Patrons in the same manner as the four we currently have.

Has everyone forgotten that Ice Mistral is already a SF contact?
