Tail Animation, and tankers
Why Tankers, specifically?
I mean, there's nothing inherently wrong with suggesting four arms, but why specifically Tankers?

I would imagine tails working like butt-capes. At least they should.
"Samual_Tow - Be disappointed all you want, people. You just don't appreciate the miracles that are taking place here."
It seems like a good idea, and perhaps the devs will think about it. I'd love my spine scrapper to have 4 arms and a tail.
I would seriously doubt that they'd ever implement an extra-arms feature.
* It would have to be its own whole powerset, similar to kheldians or VEATs, in that they have a specific 'form'.
* It could not be customized unless every single animation and powerset were updated to include this new body form. They cannot just "tack on" extra arms.
* Every single upper body clothing option would have to include it. Think about it.
I'd rather have "female huge" before an extra arms set, and I'm a very big fan of multiple arms. Several of my characters *should* have extra arms, in their original incarnations out of this game. But... I'm not seeing how it'd be possible knowing what must be done.
Tails ... I wish. I don't know whether to hold my breath and expect something cool with the upcoming Natural booster, having been told that there will be something tail-ish involved (or ... words to that effect, I was told I'd be happy...) so, maybe. But I don't know how they'd be animated unless they took the existing tails and gave them a specific animation.

But I sincerely hope that if/when they ever offer them they will not remove/change the existing static tails AT ALL. The Devs have a very bad habit of replacing costume items with new versions regardless if people have been using the old versions of things for years or not. The Devs should only ever ADD new items like this, not replace.
Like I said I'd love to have new animated tails added to this game. But I'm quite sure there are many people who like the current tails and would not like to see them removed. If animated tails existed then there would be a legitimately perfect reason why static tails should -also- exist: people could then have "real" live tails or "fake" costume tails. People would actually have a choice which kind of tail to have, and having more choices is always better.

Hehehehe - I can see it now.
"OMG did you see my tail? It moved! I bought it at the costume shop two years ago and it never moved! I just want to dress up like a cat! OMG it did it again!! It's possessed! MY TAIL IS ALIVE!!! AIEEE!"

Yeah I suppose someone could play it 100% literal that way.
The way I'd handle the "explain the tail" issue is to assume my characters' tails were always alive and moving all along. In fact I RP their 'movement' with chats right now regardless. I handled the idea of characters with wings before wings actually existed in the game the same way.

If they could animate the tail parts in the same subtle manner that the Cherub wings are done, I'd love them to pieces. They don't have to move all the time, but perhaps jumping and altering stance would trigger something. Because I love the cherub and batty wings so much

This would be nice.
I can't believe I posted before Golden Girl did, I know, the threat isn't about Animated Hair but still..
I promise that if we ever added animated tails, we would not be replacing the existing static ones.

This is actually why I don't have any characters with tails. While animated or dynamic tails would be very nice, I can understand it's no small undertaking. However, the current ultra-low-poly look most of the tails have now are just too... unrefined/blocky for my tastes.

if we can get animated tails... how about prehensile tails? option of having the tail included in the melee power sets , I could finally make the Alien warrior for my upcoming MA arc
Be well, people of CoH.

I'd be happy with the long tail functioning with trenchcoats/togas/etc. I'd also like to be able to wear a belt while still having a tail.

The Devs have always been mindful to prevent as much costume item clipping as possible but unfortunately that has led them to be perhaps a bit too conservative when it comes to "overprotecting" us from things we might not like. I tend to think the Devs ought to be a bit less restrictive in these situations.
The Devs should allow long tails to work with other costume items like trenchcoats and belts and let -us- decide if they look too clippy to use or not. I suspect that some of the combinations would in fact look crummy, but others would be acceptable enough to be usable.
It's hard to say if we could ever convince the Devs that we'd be willing to trade off having potentially -more- chances for bad clips into order to gain new opportunities for combinations that actually work. *shrugs*

And I would hope it's fairly far down on the list of things on the backburner. The tails we have, while kinda silly, are good enough.

People have been 'suggesting' having animated tails in this game for over 5 years now. While it can be argued that getting them is not going to make or break this game a person could also easily raise the opposite question and ask just how long are QoL improvements like this supposed to -remain- on the backburner? Is something like animated tails such a completely trivial desire that it's reasonable for the Devs to keep putting them off forever?
The problem with implying that animated tails are too trivial to ever see the light of day is that the history of this game has shown us that the Devs have been able to solve a whole series of other related animation challenges. We now have capes, trenchcoats, wings, Ghost Widow hair, buttcapes and so on that we didn't have when the game first started. Why should animated tails be the one thing our Devs can't figure out? Why should animated tails be the one thing our Devs decide not to bother with after all those other arguably "unnecessary" animation improvements?
I'm not going to sit here and say the Devs must give us animated tails or I'd consider this game to be a failure. But I will say that after years of steady improvements if the Devs were to ultimately -not- manage to offer animated tails then I'd consider it a disappointing missed opportunity at the very least. Unfortunately the Devs are victims of their own success with our expectations for this.
Here's hoping we can read something promising into BAB's slightly highlighted use of the word "IF".

I'm not saying they wouldn't be nice to have, but I swear if we see them before rocket packs I'm going to scream my rage to the heavens.

Hey I had this idea since you can animate the capes in the game why can't you animate the tails? My suggestion is when you're just standing there and not fighting or running the tails should swing and also when your defeated the tail should fall to the ground as well it looks kinda silly when it's sticking straight up in the air. My next suggestion is why not have us be able to make tankers with four arms instead of the standard two and maybe even create a powerset that goes with the four arm tankers.
