Lost connection to DBserver

Is all I'm getting right now.

This is an artifact of the new testing restriction. Since the new issues centers almost entirely on the character creator, they're apparently not allowing non-beta users to log in.

I still think they should change the message to "NO BETA FOR JOO!"

Funny thing is, that would actually clear up a lot of confusion.

It would.

Just wanted to test a power before taking it live.

Had no clue about a beta test.

BTW, didn't they have multiple test servers in the past? (I remember 2 at a certain time)

They do have two from time to time, but the way their system seems to work is they have to block access to all the test servers during a closed beta test.

It is sort of annoying if you were just wanting to jump over to check a build or test a power or whatever, but it shouldn't be closed for too long. hopefully.

I am getting the same message too. However, I am a 60 month vet and I heard that 60 month vets WERE getting access to beta. At 60 months, I SHOULD be! I sent an in-game petition and now a posting on here about this. Ridiculous that at 60 months, I couldn't get into the beta testing of the game? (was a beta tester for COV! whoo. that's right.. I helped create eee-villle.)

Where are the RED NAMES when you need em?

60 months will get beta access to Going Rogue.

Not regular issue beta tests

Well that's the suck. bah. thank you for clarifying. I still maintain my belief that 60 month vets SHOULD be included in the issue closed beta. This is a HUGE change for the game from its inception. I was lucky enough to start playing one month after it came out. Since then, the changes get bigger and bigger. (and sometimes better.. sometimes not so much..)

Closed Beta access is a privilege not a right my friend. The powers that be have decided who goes into this closed Beta and have given you a free pass to the going rogue beta. I would think you would be happy for that at least

For those of us paying for the game for 60 months, you might think that our feedback would be constructive and crucial to keeping people IN the game. I am not saying that it's a right. It should be a condition of the amount of time and effort and money you spend ON this game. I've been an advocate of COH since its launch and brought several people to the game who never played MMOs before. With a great community, the ability to be a hero, (or villain) and content that beats any saturday morning cartoon, I still believe in the success of COH. But I don't believe that those of us that have stuck it out shouldn't be included in beta testing of the new issues.

(and don't ask me what I think about going rogue. The details on what it's suppose to be like and what you can do still have not yet been clarified. So my excitement for an expansion isn't as great as one would think. )

I'm pretty sure there are 60 month vets who have never filed a bug report, never joined the forums and never logged onto test. The Closed Beta crew is selected based on unknown criteria to us, but you can be sure it contains those people who contribute to bug reporting and testing (for example, I wouldn't be surprised if the likes of Arcanaville and Liliacae are in).

If I was organizing a Beta test of a product I would want people who knew what they were doing, not just the people who had been working in the office the longest.

See, I'm a 63 month vet, and I know I have no right being invited to Closed Beta. I'm horrible at finding/reporting bugs, and hence, I never get invited anymore. I can't blame them at all. I'm a horrible tester. I'm really suprised we're all invited to Going Rogue. I'm not going to complain, of course.

You would actually want a combination of both, but we are talking beta testing here and the fact is over the past 5 years some of us have changed very much in our play styles as well as time to devote to actual testing. Wife/Family/Job aggro are extremely important to some as that a "beta tester" is purely volunteer time. There is a nice demograpic of folk that have plenty of time to test and do it well, those should be chosen first. I have an easy choice with my extra time... get paid to build rockets or work for free here.

It's because all the servers have to be on the same version as the client - and the client is always updated to the most recent version due to the updater. So therefore, all the servers would be loaded with the beta build.

Only way to get around that would involve a 3rd client setup (Live, Test, Beta)

This line is what is creating the perception problem in the community. Why is it some should get this privilege, and not others? Not that I know, or care, it just seems that it adds to an elitist attitude amongst those who do get in.

I was in the i12 beta, and it was horrible. I am all about a small closed if it brings about a better open test, and a faster cleaner live release. I do miss looking at stuff in the costume creator though

It is more likely that they choose some people based on power sets that they have the most time on. This way they can test the Power Proliferation, and also the color changes. As others have said, being a vet does not automatically make you the best candidate. In fact, it might make you a worse one. After all, you might have a set view on how the game should be and thus be resistant to change.

Also, with every issue, part of the goal is attracting new players and old players who have not re-upped in a while. Thus they need some new players also.

Ah... the great mystery of who gets to be in a closed beta for this game.

While I can see that just being a 63 month Vet should add points towards getting picked for a closed beta I don't think the Devs should ever be forced into thinking that long time Vets are -entitled- to be in them on that basis alone. The Devs decided to allow all 60 month Vets to join the GR closed beta. That's a decision they made for that one beta. That's not a requirement they must observe for -any- closed beta.

I've had the good fortune to be in many of the closed betas for this game. Not all of them, but many. I've stopped trying to figure out the "system" behind who gets in or not. Basically when I get invited I do my best to test things. When I don't get invited I don't. Worrying about it beyond that is pretty pointless...

I'm just happy that Issue 16 is in Closed Beta, and if I was to get an invite it would be great but not necessary to the continuation of life. Just wanted to send a congrats to all of those who got the call to test (Lucky Bastiches) and hope that they make sure that I16 is a entertaining funfest for all.

I bet you're still in college.

Otherwise, if you're in an office environment, you'd know that tenure is the misconception that's a stupid flaw of management that seems to prevail over capability and work ethic.

Oh well, it keeps the stupid people from sucking our taxes on unemployment.... yay....

Good post Lothic. While you do your best to test things when you are invited to a closed beta, I don't. Beta testing just doesn't interest me. So hopefully your participation, and my lack of participation, will play a factor in who gets picked. I would hate to see a spot get filled by me when I know I won't be helpful.

I'm pretty good at breaking things, but I'll admit that my main reason for wanting to test, is to get a preview of power customization. And I think many people who want in beta, will not admit that.

Here's hoping they iron out the character creation bugs first and open up the login for the non-closed beta testers.

WTF?

Did you actually read my post my good friend. I said I would not pick people due to tenure but due to capability.

And no I am not in College, I am in my 30's and work at a management level in the military.
