Reasons NOT To Try Those Other Games

Bigger numbers = better game, obviously. The logic is flawless.

The buzz on the street regarding the "pen and paper" game is that it's terrible. Absolutely terrible. I've got a number of friends in the closed beta who are not at all happy with what they saw, and have no intention of buying in once it goes live. (Four of them are planning to reactivate their COH accounts once I16 goes live. Two already re-activated for the recent Double XP weekend.)

Another red flag is the "lifetime buy-in offer" that's only available until the day before the game actually goes live. More thank likely, that company is hard-up for cash, but at $200 a pop, how do you really know that "a lifetime" isn't going to be more than 6 months to a year - especially if the game tanks?

No.... the signs are telling on this one. If anyone's going to check out that game, you may want to wait a few weeks until after release to see if the buzz is still negative.

I enjoyed Diablo II a lot, which is unusual for me since I don't normally enjoy action-oriented games. I found that the secret to success in that game is slotting items with gems that add a variety of elemental damage to weapons, or various protective effects to armors. I never found an unslotted magic item that could compare with a good slotted item. Combine gems to get bigger ones, and keep upgrading throughout the game. I was able to do well with all of the classes, but my favorite was the Amazon. I pumped points into Ice Arrow and the defensive skill tree, triple slotted a bow with good gems, and destroyed all opposition. Thanks to the gem damage, I could even inflict heavy elemental damage with normal attacks when I wanted to go easy on the skills and recover mana.

I think the look-not-tied-to-lewt-and-stats system CoH has is one of the things that makes it so much fun, because it gives you freedom to look the way you want to look, not the way you need to look.
Also, apart from the HEATs and VEATS, the way there are no race restrictions on ATs makes it so flexible too - you can make a cyborg orc cowboy, if that's your thing
The game doesn't tell you "this creature/type of human has access to these powers, but not these ones" - it lets the players choose the powers, then build the creature/type of human with no restrictions on what they can wear or look like.

It was even better when you could play a bow-wielding Amazon in the Arcane Sanctuary before they fixed the glitch where you could shoot half the length of the Sanctuary and kill the False Summoner without getting more than 10 feet away from the entry portal.

D2 was a good game, for all its flaws, and I enjoyed it a great deal. But I'd never play it on Battlenet... I'd only play solo or on a LAN with friends. If I want to game online, I play CoH.

I'm going to try all them other games. For the simple fact they aren't CoH and play differently THEN CoH. Not because I dislike CoH, not at all. Love the game. Been here 5 years, will prolly be here another 5 years... but i like a change of pace every now and then. I hope these games are as different as peolple keep saying they are... I don't WANT a CoH clone, i already PLAY coh.

I'll be in the CO headstart program. I'll play DCO when it comes out. I may even suscribe to one of them along with CoH. (I can prolly afford 2 MMO's a month, i think 3 is to much. Not money wise as much as, how can you play and do 3 mmo justice at once?? )

CoH has nothing to worry about, i love the game got near 30 lvl 50 alts. Well, until The Old Republic comes out that is... I'm a HUGE Star Wars junkie. Big enough ive accually went back to SWG a few months back for a "fix"... I may even at some point between now and TOR release go back again... But until then... CoH is home, but that doesn't mean i won't vacation elsewere from time to time. Unless of course CO is just so freaking awsome i can't stand it and never play Coh again... but i'm not really expecting that to happen. LOL

Or the glitch that ignored weapon speed when using Jab. Early on, an Amazon could use even the heaviest spear like a melee machine gun, which made short work of just about everything.

I always played Diablo II in single player mode. If I could find a single player game with the depth and quality and character creation versatility of CoH, I'd be playing it. Lacking that, CoH works great for me.

This is the only game that I've played that gets it right EVERYWHERE AT ONCE. And unless it starts looking more like those other games, I'll be here until they pull the plug--hopefully many, many years down the road.
Agree... 5 Months of WoW and all that I got was agrevated and wanted my 5 months back almost 4 years of CoX and I still love my toons all 40+ alts and 25+ lvl 50's across my 2 accounts "I am an addict" and that is the first step to recovery

I have beta'd a few new mmo's and none compare in experience to CoX the only one that worries me... is CO it offers the world the graphics have improved I still hear from trusted sources its not as good as the hype but it is still drawing a lot of interest from long time CoX friends we will take a hit... sad times ahead

even with the change to mission dificulty I can't solo the LRSF I have tried

I love CoX please keep up the issues guys!!!

Soloing the LRSF is the domain of gods, not mortal players.

in 1972 DC comics declared Metropolis, IL the hometown of superman, according to wikipedia. while obviously its not big enough to be the one portrayed in the comics, but its still a fun little tidbit

And, they do have riverboat gambling there, as of about... fifteen? years ago. That has changed the town...
...not one wit as far as I was ever able to tell. Well, their theater closed, and they have to drive to Paducah to see a Superman movie, but, not much has changed. Too bad it did not become the "western District of Columbia," it might have grown during the late nineteenth and early twentieth.

I assume that in the DC universe, Metropolis is different.

Paragon City is built on the same premise as Metropolis and Gotham, being basically a much larger fictional version of Providence that has much more importance.

Fairly certain this is the case, with the "5% bigger" type of arguement.
Although, I've found a reference to a "Massacre in Metropolis" wherein, apparently, the DC universe has a Metropolis, IL about the same size as the real-life equivalent and a misplaced villain named "Massacre." Apparently, he needed directions to the Metropolis where Superman resided, instead of the smallish town.
So... sorry Metropolis, IL, wikipedia notwithstanding.

We (my wife and I) are actually thinking of trying THAT OTHER GAME <gasp.> Why? Well, mainly out of curiosity. Just to see what they've got to offer you know?
Does this mean we're cancelling our City accounts? ABSOULTELY NOT! No, our stuff is not up for grabs, back off!
There are some intersting sounding features in the other game that are worth a look. They might be the best thing since Krispy Kreme doughnuts or they might be total garbage. Only one way for us to find out. I expect that, no matter how good things are over there, we'll still be prowling around Paragon and the Rogue Islands for some time to come.

Edit: Besides, No Steelclaw=Fail

Also that while the game has the name of the pencil-and-paper game, but none of its mechanics (including power design), since it was much less work for Cryptic to file the serial numbers off a game engine they'd developed for another game that didn't make it out of development than to recreate the pencil-and-paper game's wide-open flexibility and then rein it in enough to prevent abuse (which is hard enough for a flesh-and-blood GM to do).
