Rikti Raids and Vanguard Merits
So just did a Rikti Raid tonight.
First question: When doing these raids we took down the pylons and the shields dropped. Then everyone is fighting on top the saucer and then people are planting bombs. We then move to the center of the saucer and fight and die some more. With that being said, is there an ultimate objective in this or can there be an ultimate objective such as blowing up the ship or planting a certain number of bombs or is there no ultimate win and you just get Vanguard Merits? And as for these bombs, who can plant them or how can you plant them? Is there a guide for these kinds of raids to walk you through? Second question: What can Vanguard Merits get me? It seems you cannot redeem for enhancements or can you maybe at Wentworths? Again would paragonwiki mention anything on this? Thanks in advance to all who replied. |
To your specific questions, the objectives are as follows:
1. Badges. You get a badge when you (and/or your team) plants a bomb 25 times, and when you (and/or your team) contributes to the defeat of the Giant Monster 10 times.
2. Vanguard Merits. You can redeem these at the work stations in the Vanguard base for a variety of items, such as a salvage sack (ability to hold up to 10 extra salvage items), Vanguard Heavy (temp ally power), Vanguard Uniform costume items, Vanguard Sigil costume change emote, and much more.
Definitely check the wiki, the info is there.
The raids themselves are full of chaotic fun as well, and I enjoy running them when they form.
Q. Just wondering Posi, where are the new dance emotes we were told would come with GR?
A. Positron: Whoops, my bad.
1387 badges, and counting
Other great use for the raids...
Healing badges
Debt badges
Damage badges
Mez badges (I HATE RIKTI MAGI!)
The Vanguard Heavies are damn useful when you really need some extra firepower, and the costume parts are neat.

Don't forget that the only way to get the Rikti War Zone Beacon for your SG teleporters is to participate in a ship raid because there is a badge on the ship.

You do it for the fun of being part of a rampaging horde of heroes and villains destroying all in their path.

Planting bombs
On the top of the ship, in the 'trench' leading to the center, there are gratings along both sides. You need to smash through a grate, then click on the bomb in the small alcove behind it. The bombs have a long interrupt time so it helps to have super high defense or someone to distract the enemies - and a bunch of them spawn when you attack a grate.
When the bomb goes off, it will fire a cone attack starting from the alcove which does A LOT of damage. Therefore, it's common practice to yell BOMB on broadcast when you plant one so people can get out of the way (something like 100 ft away, or off to the side of the grate).
Each team can plant ONE bomb. It used to be possible to plant more than one if you had people click at about the same time - not sure if this is still possible. You want to plant as many bombs as possible because more bombs = more damage to the ship = the shield will be down longer = more time to earn merits. Planting bombs (I think at least 3) will summon the GM. Defeating him also extends the time the shield is down.
Second question: What can Vanguard Merits get me? |
A boatload of costume parts, many of which are pretty darn nice.
A PERMANENT increase to the amount of salvage your character can carry. I believe it's called the 'Vanguard Storage Sack'.
Lots of info on this page at ParagonWiki and the pages to which it links.

Additionally a special Vanguard themed Costume change emote.

An in-game friend told me such...I wasn't sure but once I hit the last badge not under the Mothership's FF I got the SGB badge and the beacon.
Nope. I can, for certain, say that you no longer need that badge. My new SG got the beacon for RWZ without it.

You sure? I just wrapped up getting all my beacons for my new SG. Did all the RWZ ones cept the mothership, but no beacon.
I would like to point out that if you're curious whether Paragon Wiki has information pertaining to something in-game, just do a search for it instead of asking here whether we would have the information. Chances are VERY GOOD that we do. And if we don't, we have a forum for requesting information be put in place, not to mention you are welcome to create articles yourself.

As a bit of lore regarding Rikti Mothership Raids, basically what we are doing there is sabotaging the ship so that the Rikti don't get it flying again and attack the city with it. As such, planting bombs causes more damage for them to repair, and fighting the Rikti on the ship takes away resources they might otherwise use on repairs. So the way we 'win' a raid is by causing as much damage and defeating as many Rikti as superheroically possible.

If anyone in your SG gets the badge while in SG mode, it counts towards the beacon.

I thought I had all of the badges in RWZ at the time I was asking in a global channel about it but I didn't. iirc badge 13 lies under the mothership FF and there is 14 total badges in RWZ. At the time I didn't realize there were 14 and thought 13, the one under the FF, was the last one. But as soon as I landed near badge 14 I got the beacon.

I know...it is a brand new SG, with only my toons in it. So I know none of them had the badge.

I picked up the Unabashed badge (the one on the ship) today and it unlocked the Rikti War Zone beacon for my personal SG today. About six weeks ago I methodically collected all the other exploration badges and didn't get the beacon, so I'd been hanging out to take part in a raid just for this reason.

UPDATE. Tried to get it from under, but no joy. Got lucky and a raid was going on so did the ole dive bomb the middle and voila RWZ beacon.
