Bots/Dark Needs A Patron!

My Bots/Dark is getting close to 40 so it's time I think about choosing her patron and I'd like some advice.

I understand that the popular choices are either Mace Mastery (for the shield) or...uh, whatever the electrical set is called (for the fences). I was thinking about Soul Mastery because the tentacles have such a wide area of affect (also fits her theme), would that be a bad choice? Will they hold down mobs in the burn patches despite the bots' knockback? My playstyle tends to be somewhat tankerminder-y, but not all the time, if that helps. Obviously opening up with Darkest Night or Tar Patch tends to draw fire anyway.

Also, once I've chosen Patron Set X for Power X, are there any other powers in those sets worth going for at all? I know the lowest level attacks are usually pointless.

Thematically you can never go wrong. However, most Bots go for Mu Mastery because the immobilization is -KB. However, play what you want to play.

Dark fits the theme, and also has probably the best looking hold in the game, The shield in Mace is good, but then you can never have much mez protection, Mu has the -KB to keep mobs in Burn patches, and if you go with fish boy's set you can get cheap laughs out of people by telling to read your build

In the end it doesn't make all that much of a difference unless your into competitive PvP so go with what you think is right for you.

Personally, my bots/dark MM took Ghost Widow. Soul Storm and Soul Tentacles are like, "SIT! STAY! GET BLASTED INTO OBLIVION!" Grand fun. But by all means, go with what you feel most comfortable with.

I think for tankerminding and general mastermind survivability, the Black Scorpion mace for extra defense is the way to go. Mace Mastery has a nice AoE immobilize even if it is not of the same -kb strength as the Mu Mastery. It's a very nice immobilize.

Personaly I think the MM Patrons need revamped. I have several MM and dont have a patron on any of them due to lack of need for anything in the patrons that I have anything that I need in my builds.

Does the GW patron immobilize prevent KB? If so, that would be awesome.

No, just the Mu mastery. However the third tier, Ghost Widow hold is one of the visually coolest looking powers in the game IMHO, esp if you can get it to hit on Valkerie or Ms. Liberty.

I don't believe so. I'm fairly sure I remember nailing something or another with either Soul Tentacles or with Soul Storm, and my Assault Bot hammering it with missile swarm and sending it backward anyway. However, I could be wrong.

I've never had it nor played a toon with one of the tentacle holds, but that's my recollection as well, they still end up suffering KB - which was why I was bringing this up. Still, I'm more a fan of playing for fun than counting up every last fraction of a point in my favor, so I may still go with GW.

elec fences is awesome you just need charged armour to get it.

The GW hold is probably one of the coolest looking powers in the entire game.

Not to mention you being able to hover there, arms folded, while your pets obliterate the thing. The utter disdain of it all just screams "evil mastermind".

Mu and Mace seem to be popular choices - Mu's AoE immobilize does -KB, and Mace offers several useful tools that synergize well with /Dark. Scorpion Shield's S/L defense works with the -tohit from Darkest Night and the bubble from your Protector Bots, the immob and hold do -fly and -jump so are nice for keeping things grounded in your burn patches, and Power Boost is really nice in general. In particular, PB will boost the -tohit of Fearsome Stare and Darkest Night (but in the case of DN, only for the duration of PB), the fear duration and hold duration of Fearsome Stare and Petrifying Gaze, the stun of Howling Twilight, the heal of Twilight Grasp, and the movement slow of Tar Patch. Am I missing something?

My Bot/dark is so awesome, I am my own patron.

As a 50 necro/dark mm with Soul Mastery, I take a perverse pleasure in walking into a mob with pets on aggressive and Oppressive Gloom turned on. They have just enough time to look at me, maybe get one shot off before they're stunned, and drop like flies.

Not as useful with primarily ranged pets like bots, but still entertaining, especially with the Absolute Amazement proc in it. Kept even Reichsman from hitting back consistently.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

Well hm. This thread still hasn't helped me make up my mind. I've been playing a two year old Corr as of late while I let this subject bubble a bit in my gray matter and I guess it's not come to a simmer yet.

They all sound cool, can I take them all?

Nahhh lol, BUT. . . you could take 2 of them. You do have access to a second build when you talk to a trainer, so if you are not a PVP fan(using your second build for a PVP build) you could use your second build for a different setup and take a different patron.
