I think that 'cracker' is banned by the AE filter too.

They have to take a majority view of it or even a loud minority view. I personally am fine with hearing the C-word, and i and my friends use it a lot in conversation. I'm not clamoring for its inclusion ingame or in the forums just because only a portion of the forumgoers find it offensive or even because I think NCSoft mistakenly thinks a portion of the forumgoers find it offensive.

I understand that I am in the minority, and I dont tilt at windmills about it.

It's not even a bad word in the UK. A cracker is merely a dry biscuit you have with cheese...

As for GM response time, it's anywhere from a few hours, to your petition being automatically closed without even an automated email... In 4+ years of playing, I've NEVER had a GM get back to me in anything less than 3 days...

Ok, we -have- to open the server lists to both communities now.

See, now I'm afraid to cross the pond as it were... since I'm a cracker and all that.

That is just you - the last 3 times I've had to petition, I've had a response back in less than 10 minutes - at varying times of the day. Last one freaked the crap out of me, when a Carnie suddenly showed up in my Council mission.

Oddly, right this very instant, I'm actually munching on some crackers with cheese...

*shrug* Maybe it's improved lately. I don't petition any more, haven't done for MONTHS, as I never EVER got a reply. Got sick of bothering, so these days when I hit a bug in a mission, I just drop it instead. Or go play something else.

i was referring to the fact that the Rare events attended by devs happen when they are awake, At ludicrous times for us, and hence are usually imppssible for us europeans to attend anyway. Ive been to one such event, where i saw Lord Recluse for about 5 minutes. It was very late and really not worth it.

your GM response time is terrible, but maybe its tge nature of our pwtitions that causes the disparity. I really only petition when i cant find a glowy in a mission or am otherwise prevented from completing and im in a hurry to leave for work, or when im reporting a trademark infringement.

So which is it? That's the present perfect up there you used. I get the impression that you're not one to mangle your grammar. I'm not accusing you of selective memory in order to support your griping, but...ok, I am.

Pretty much unused in British English but quite common in US English iirc.

Also, afaik, they refer to digging spades as shovels. So a US spade is either the card suit or a racial epithet.
Hmmm.... I am *cough* over 40 years of age, have lived in over a dozen different cities in 4 different states on the US West Coast, and attended a half dozen different schools. I'm familiar with several racial slurs aimed at various nationalities, but I have NEVER heard "spade" used as a racial epithet.

In fact, I used the word just yesterday... I needed the small gardening tool to plant some basil.

Oh yes, and hubby loves to watch the Poker games, where they talk about spades all the time!

More common in the southern portions of the US.

Badging in a PvP zone?

I haven't heard it used, ever, in over 30 years of living in Florida and Georgia.

I think it was a common term in black & white movies before the technology of color film was invented.

Good for you! Sheltered life, and all that? I am 39, have lived in the UK, Malta and Poland, and I have seen and heard the word 'Spade' used on tv and in movies oftehn enough to be in no doubt that it IS offensive to a lot of people, and have just found it referenced in the following websites:

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/spade

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=spade

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/spade

http://gyral.blackshell.com/names.html

Like the invisible man, just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it's not there

EDIT: I haven't heard the term 'wog' used, personally, since the early 80s, but that doesn't mean I think it can be intriduced to the vernacular now either.

Actually, I DO mangle grammer from time to time, however that last bit WAS somewhat of a BIT of hyperbole. I did get replies... Automated ones closing the log as, and I quote "You weren't online when we tried to contact you".

Of course I wasn't online, they tried to contact me at 3 in the bloody morning...

I don't know.. it seems to me that this 'understanding cultural differences' is turning into a 'majority rules' kind of mentality, where of course the US are the majority and everyone else is a minority.

To be honest i'm thinking of never posting on these boards again, it's not like I'll be missed or anything what with all these Americans stating 'welcome to OUR boards' everywhere i look.. To be honest I don't feel welcome at all as they obviously just see this forum as THEIR place (Ok, generalising, but i've seen it a lot). I miss the EU boards. This place is alien and just feels unwelcoming and plain wrong.

Ok, now that those from across the pond have joined us in this swirling mass of humanity known as the CoH forums, I say welcome.

As for the "wording" differences between us, we will get the kinks worked out I'm sure. As for cultural differences, well US players have a higher tendency to be armed, than our EU cousins. And yall are going to have to explain this tea thing vs coffee.

Is that you in your avatar? I'll miss you if you go! Rraoowr!

Re: your point, I too don't like the feel of these new forums particularly, which is why I think I've set up shop in this one, bizarrely.

I'm going to try to get used to the new boards, however. I am glasd that there's been a new influx of posters to the boards that I've been frequenting for almost 5 years. You should try to think the same way, even if the influx you're getting is quite large and seems to mistakenly think that they own the place.

When our friends from London come to visit, we always have a coffee exchange. They actually don't drink much tea.

Dunno, maybe they're the exception? lol

There's a thread around here somewhere where I posted links to existing threads for specific suggestions because, like you say, it's our forum now, your's, mine, his, her's, our's... So jump around and make fun of us. It's not like we'd notice too much, we make fun of ourselves frequently... it's why there's a comic section that allows almost anything.
