Or a sign that they have either only recently came out, or are still in the closet in RL. Personally I agree, don't see the reason to broadcast it.

I hope you practice what you preach. Never referring to current or past girl-friends (boy-), talking about who you think is attractive, implying who you live with, discouraging others who want to talk about their wives or husbands, ignoring any form of in-game affection (*hugs {player}* type stuff), etc., ad nauseum.

I simply refer to it honestly. If my boyfriend gets home from work, I will say "Oh hey, I have to go, the BF just got home." And other perfectly natural comments. When someone gives me a "O.o Yer a girl?!?" I tell them no, in fact I am not... very much a dude. If that is wrong, so sue me. Hardly broadcasting though, so I guess that barely applies.

Among strangers? Generally, yes. Among friends? That's completely different.

I have zero problems with whichever sexuality a person is, I just don't see the need to broadcast it to all and sundry inside a GAME. It's no different to holding up a sign saying "LOOK AT ME!"

@FloatingFatMan

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Difference there is, you're not making it a focal point of conversation. It's when people say things like 'Gotta go, my man is home.. I'm such a lucky guy for dating him!' it goes from being informative, to being as subtle as slapping you in the face with a truck! :P

Time and a place, dear people. Time and a place.

It actually is different than that. If you stood up in a crowded theatre and screamed that you are gay, the only reaction you should get should be bewilderment as to why that dude is screaming.

I for one do not see casual and normal references as "broadcasting." Maybe you are just more discrete than I am. I like to be a human when I play a game, preferably myself. Mostly because, I have a level of anonymity in the game world that I simply do not have anywhere else. If I get rejected by someone because I am queer... well, so what, there are plenty more players I will never meet in RL. Being in this game allows me and many others the freedom to do what we would like to do in RL (to some that means fly, to others that means being open and honest about our sexuality) to me, that is acceptable.

Of course I must point out, that if the above example said "...such a lucky girl..." it would be okay. And that is the whole point of wanting a gay-themed or gay-exclusive SG. So that you can say what straights say all the time without question and without even noticing how lucky they are. I lived for years having to choose my words and [diminutive cat]-foot around certain conversations and issues.

I dare people to go an entire day in a normal environment (like work or school) without once alluding to or making obvious the gender of their significant other.

To me it makes no difference whether you're a 'lucky guy' or a 'lucky girl'. Certain things don't need to be mentioned in game. As FFM pointed out though, amongst those who are in your own social circle no one would bat an eyelid as you're all friends.

Really? Because it makes me cringe every time I hear it, regardless of the genders of either parties. :\

Sam: "My mind is a swirling miasma of scintillating thoughts and turgid ideas."
Max: "Me too."

Do we need to hear about heterosexual relationships in game? Cause if we don't then you have a lot of petitioning to do.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bothered about who or what sex people are or what they date... but you don't really need to mention it in game, do you?

As for petitioning it... it's not worth my time, let alone customer support. I'd rather petition things that need to be.

Heterosexuality is flaunted in this game endlessly. From Mants and Sisters wedding (which was a huge event) to players saying "Wife/Husband agro" to Fusionettes and Faultlines heterosexual realtionship. Does it bother you that these heterosexual relationships are mentioned in game?

Well, to balance that out, there's Captain Castillio, who's been a deep and loving relationship with just one man for his entire life, plus the bad break up vibe that Statesman and Recluse give off.

Enough is enough! I have had it with these ************* heterosexuals on this ************* plane!

I'm gay myself, and have also found LGBT SGs an odd idea. I'll tell anyone who asks that I'm gay, and not hold back from making suggestive remarks with that certain someone when we're both talking on the same channel.
But I can find some of the more stereotypical gays a tad frustrating anyway.

The SG I'm in is a 'come one, come all" sg, but we have three gays and a lesbian anyway. But we're happy all bunched up together. Spices it up a li'l.

No, because it's part of the story.

"Husband/Wife" agro is hardly part of the story. Would you object to having a gay wedding in game or many gay relationship as part of the canon? If not then you should have no problem with someone wanting to join a gay SG.

Not once did I say that I have a problem. You don't see people advertising a 'straight-only' SG do you? In truth, we should ALL be welcoming of all walks of life even if it's not always the case. Sometimes, the biggest persecutors are the 'persecuted'.

I highly doubt any gay SG would not allow a straight person to join and if they do then it's wrong. What you fail to understand is that persecuted minorities like to flock together for support and to share personal experiences(Even within an MMO). There is no need for straight only SG because the vast majority of films, tv, books, songs, and video games represent heterosexuality. Heterosexuals have many outlest to show off their straightness . You don't see it cause to you it's the norm.

I have to ask... are you persecuted? Angry at the injustice? Or someone who prefers to defend your beliefs without considering that you're using the wrong argument on the wrong person?

Check back, I've answered your questions. Relationships in the story are just a part of it. As for joining a LGBT SG? If someone wants to do so, then be my guest.

My bugbear with it is then hearing how some members are then persecuted and segregated for being what they are, but at the base of it all, they invite it by not intergrating with everyone else regardless of sex, sexuality, colour, creed or other possible 'difference'.

So, would you answer my questions?

Sure thing! I'm not a fan of injustice and yes I have been persecuted in my life. I can't think of one persecuted miniority that has over come injusitce by simply intergrating into the main stream. One can not fight injustice without being seen/heard. In a perfect world in which everyone was treated equally we would have no need for specialized groups but we don't live in that world. So people feel the need to group together and share their experiences.

If gay SGs are harassed they have many tools in which to report the offenders. If you don't lilke their ******** I suggest not reading their posts.
