Oh dear lag!

I was in an ITF yesterday in from 5-9pm; and we failed at the end. Nevermind why we failed. But for the majority of the second to last and the last mission, the lag was simply UNBEARABLE.

We all know the place where we called 'Lag Slope'. The lag normally starts after you cross the short badge and clear the second General and the surrounding EBs. The lag really begins when the ambushes starting to spawn, charging down the hill. But no. Yesterday, the lag started as soon as we were nearly the river before crossing the bridge. The game turned into a slideshow; with endless amount of disconnection up the screen. I have done A LOT of ITF since it ever came out. Yesterday, was easily the worst ever. It is so bad to the extend that it was simply unplayable - none of the powers were recharge correctly let alone being able to fire.

But that was just the beginning. The lag continue until the finale of the ITF. Yes, it did. You would have thought after the lag slope, the lag would fade away. But it was not the case. Even the AVs were moving frame by frame.

At the last mission, the lag began as soon as we enter the mission. It was not just slow; our actions were essentially ground to a halt. Again, our powers were not recharged probably and none could be fired. We put up with it since we made it that far to the finale. We were patient and we did it bit by bit. We went to Rom and things were still not improved there. Rom was effectly moving at frame-by-frame rate, charging at us 1ft at every few seconds. Every time an ambush came in, we would have a disconnection. Funny enough, normally went we fight Rom, there is only 1 ambush - so long as we don't kill the entire spawn. There were 3 yesterday coming in non-stop. Since the beginning of the second to last mission, we were hardly able to control our characters nevermind playing it normally.

We fed up. We gave up. Customer satisfation hit rock bottom; and felt below further still. It was not enjoyable at all - at any rate, speaking most charitably.

Then I moved on to do some MA missions with some coalition friends. We started off in Cap's AE building. None of us could load into the map. Several of us disconnected or crashed as a result. We tried again; and the same resulted. So we moved to St. Martial. Yet again, we failed to load onto the map. After 2 (or so) fail attempts, we finally loaded into the map. Then I disconnected, then crashed, at the second mob. I went to bed.

It was not a single isolated incident. I was asking around on various channels about the lag. I knew that there were 2 more teams doing ITF at around the same time I was doing mine. They had exactly the same among of lag. The same with MA arcs again.

And it was not just last night either. We are experiencing more frequent lag since the introduction of i14. To be fair - TO BE REALLY FAIR - as a customer who just want some fun time playing a game, that kind of lag is utterly unacceptable. I am not asking for silky smooth gaming experience every second I am on althought it WAS almost the case when I first started. I know there are limitations, either with my computer and internet system or otherwise. But still, the amount lag now has gone beyond any reasonable expectations. After all, this is a game, which is meant for fun, not for frustration, in return for money.

I therefore sincerely ask the customer support to investigate the course of the frequent lag recently; and thereby reduce the amonut of it. I would also ask you all to share your experience of lag, telling us when and what you were playing at that time. Let us hope they would take notice of the situation and do something about it.

Thank you.

The MA System is indeed on a different server. One in the US.

The Map Servers which host running MA instances may not be however, if you see what I mean?

Thanks for charifying. Edited that part out.

I've seen a increase in lag as well over the last few weeks far more than i used to get and seemingly at random i could be doing anything from super jumping across a zone to knee deep in longbow and there would just be a massive lag spike.

Atlas is lag-central. I'm guessing due to the number of people within the AE building. I spend my time in Steel and Talos, now. AE, AH, Uni - I'm happy there. Peace and quiet!

Lag has been on the increase a little for me in Atlas, but sometimes it spikes rather highly in MA, too.

Has MA attracted so many new and returning players that the aging EU servers cannot cope? Cue shock and ironic horror!

its the connection to the EU servers for the main server and for the MA its the amount of useage that causes the lag

I wonder as well if the fact that you have the game servers in Germany and the MA servers in the US and then the player in X country has any effect of the lag.

I mean it cant be good that if you want to do a MA mission the data's doing a transatlantic trip every time you load a mission

I've been getting lag spikes often in non MA missions ever since i#14 came out. So I doubt it's MA itself causing the Lag, it may be that their more people on or maybe theres an underlying problem with i#14.Of course it might just be MA also affecting non MA play.

Do we know enough about the architecture and dataflow to say that?

Arcs are copied/cached at some point when a player starts to do them - we don't know where this is done. It could be that as soon as an EU player hits PLAY on a MA mission the whole arc is copied to a machine in the EU.

Your right we dont know how it works and it was really just a blind guess on my part based on the fact that at some point information is zipping betwean US, germany and the user PCs

I've certainly been getting worse lag - both graphically and on the netgraph - in the last few months, but especially badly this last week. Every other MMO I've ever played has run more smoothly as time went on (new expansion content or graphics upgrades aside - but they're always optional) - not so here - this game runs immeasurably worse for me as time goes on.

Turning graphics options to their lowest settings has zero effect on the graphics lag for me too, compared to the highest settings (which is something that actually does have an effect during Rikti Mothership Raids). My PC is a couple of year's old and far from cutting edge, but a long way from being below average for running a 5 year old game, and it still runs other titles well.

I suspect MA buildings are acting like WW/BM in concentrating players there and forcing you to load all of their costumes at once when you get in range, because I certainly notice bad lag near MA buildings. And even though MA is hosted on its own servers I think it is certainly having some effect on the performance of the game servers.

My ISP sucks, but they've always sucked, and I'm not seeing such noticeable network lag in other MMOs I've trialled recently. Besides when I suffer power activation lag or chat lag or rubber-band lag while moving or players/NPCs warping around, often I see other people complaining of the same - often my friend has it too and he's in a different country with a different ISP.

Yes the lag is terrible, I pretty much avoid Cap now.

Same
When I started playing this game there was very few lag spikes and the first time I experience lag was when rolling a char (which is a given) but after I came back from my recent break the lag has increased massively. I think the poor ol' hamster won't be turning that wheel for much longer.

I suspect the hamster is on it's last lag(s).....sorry, couldn't resist.

On topic: the lag has been horrible throughout, I too like to live in quieter zones with access to all that I need, or of course the RWZ, but just leaping through Steel canyon has become a nightmare of lag. I cant imagine what ITF is like with the current UBERlag we're getting, I'll bet it was painful.
