Locked in an eternal cycle of tedious solo content
You can group at any point. The missions you have aren't locked into solo only. When you complete a mission you don't have to accept the next one. Complete a mission and don't take the next, mission slot is open. If you clear a mission arc you don't have to start another.
Edit: Also you can quit them. You are allowed 1 per X time, the exact time I can't remember but I think it is 3 days. To do so go see the contact that gave you the mission and there should be an option to drop the mission. If there isn't then that specific mission can't be dropped. It does that for missions that complete badges or other goodies on completion.
Why don't you just start/join a team? I don't understand the point of this thread.

I'm allowed three missions, which I can't quit
[/ QUOTE ] Can't quit missions? have you even looked for the "drop current mission" option. Go see the relevant contact, all will become clearer

and if I complete any of them another one just sprouts up to replace it
[/ QUOTE ]Not every mission automatically opens up a new one, it depends on the contact and arc involved.

You completely lost me there. Nothing is stopping you joining a team or creating one. Not trying to be funny or anything but you'll have to be a bit more descriptive here if you have a real problem because what you've said so far doesn't make a lot of sense.
When you get a group of people together they are going to want to do the most interesting, rewarding or highest level mission available. If I have a mission that no longer exists, a low level grinding mission and some random quest arc then I'm never going to be able to get a group for any of them. Either I grind through the quest arcs solo, roll a new character or cycle quitting the missions every 3 days until I finally reach the end. None of these are impossible, but they don't really warm me to the idea of getting back into the game.
PM me your global + server and I'll come take a look. Not all can be dropped.

I think you'll find most teams aren't too picky about what they do, as long as it's the right sort of level. If you're stuck with old stuff... just finish one of the missions (or auto-complete it, as people have mentioned), speak to the contact to clear it, and then don't accept another mission from them. You aren't automatically given the next mission in an arc, you have to accept it.
There are very few follow-on missions that you don't actually have to physically accept. I'd be very surprised if you have three arcs running with follow-on missions. Just try auto-completing the mission you really really don't want to do (if it'll let you) and complete the others, they shouldn't take too long.
If you join a team you can do their misions to have some fun and get back into the game and either do your missions at the same time (most teams are willing to do the odd out-levelled mission as long as you don't take the mickey with it) or just solo them later.
Well, there's no way I can ever get rid of the mission that no longer exists, and one of my arcs seems to be an endless cycle of follow on missions so that will be stuck in my tray forever. The other is just one of those tedious "Kill 50 x missions" so hopefully if I drop that it won't automatically cycle onto something else. I'll have to wait a couple more days for the option to be re-enabled though. And no, it won't let me join other instanced missions while I have a full quest log, so I can't play until I clear some space.
It's still quite unbelievable they have a system where you only get 3 quests options and have no option to abandon an arc because it is boring and you want to group up for some fun, only a limited option to abandon quests because they are bugged. I'm finding it nigh impossible to have any faith in developers that would do something like that, even if I do remember enjoying it back in the day.
When i team i very rarely do my own missions so quite often I can have very old missions in the tray - occasionally I run through them as it only takes a few minutes once you have levelled so far past them!

Eh? How does you mission no longer exist? So long as the contact who gave it to you exists, the mission can be dropped, and I don't know of any contact ever being removed. If you really can't drop it for some bizzarre mission, you can petition a GM to autocomplete it for you.

There is only one arc I can think of that has more than two follow on missions.

You can do any instanced mission belonging to a team mate. You can also join any Task Force.

You are perfectly free to abandon arcs.

Having 3 open arcs does not prevent you from grouping in any way shape or form.

It's a good job they didn't do it like that then.

OK if a mission no longer exists petition it ingame and while your at it ask them to remove all your missions.

Going by what you've posted it dose very much look like you've been hit by some kind of bug the only way i can see you having a mission that doesn't exist any more is if you have a mission set in either the old fault line or the old rikti war zone.
Petition dose seem to be your best option
tho for future reference when posting such questions give us more specific details and we may have a better chance at giving useful help
The secret is when you've completed a mission and you return to the contact, just close the contact window without accepting another mission. Then that contact won't be on your mission list and you're free to go get another mission.

@Miss Chief
Unfortunately it never gives me that option. Doesn't look like there's anything I can do, I tried abandoning my other quest but its a chain too, and I tried speaking to a GM to clear my old mission but he wasn't able to do so, I still have the last stage to speak to a non-existent NPC.
Sounds like you are playing a different game to the rest of us.
Care to share exactly which missions you are having problems with?

Is one of the missions, by any chance, related to Snaptooth? I only ask as DJ Zero still (randomly) has the option of the 'Defeat Snaptooth until your PC explodes*' on some of my alts that took part in the initial Valentine's (or was it Easter? Or Celebration of Pocket D? Memory is poor) missions roughly 2 years ago.
Just petition a GM to come and clear it if necessary.
Hmm, Ourobouros is too new for 2 years and the Calvin Scott TF is too old.
Just by chance, what are the three missions you have?
The original defeat snaptooth shouldn't be a problem, as the contact an mission doors are still there, but "rescue baby new year" could be problamatic though. I think it's supposed to disapear from mission lists, but a bug is possible. The GMs would clear that though.

Regarding other stuff previously mentioned. Kill X missions would take hardly any time to complete, especially if you can find those enemies in a lower lvl zone (grey enemies), that can be defeated very quickly.
The only arc that has been a pain for me is the Montague Castanella one, where I duo'd it with a friend so my empath could gain access to Cimerora. We did my friend's missions, so I never got the salvage myself, and thus couldn't create the lost wand, so that mission is stuck on my empath, and I haven't got a GM to get rid of it yet.

I haven't played this game in 2 years, and with the reactivation it's easy to see why. I'm allowed three missions, which I can't quit, and if I complete any of them another one just sprouts up to replace it. Suppressing the urge to rant about how utterly stupid this system is, is there anything I can do to escape this cycle, other than to complete the two missions I have that actually still exist and all of their subsequent missions until I'm finally allowed into group content?
