What's wrong with me???
[ QUOTE ]
Mercy is probably my least favourite of the CoV zones, and I can see how it might make it difficult to get into. It gets better - all I can recommend is just do Kalinda's arc max, then go to Port Oakes, and then onto Cap ASAP.
Cap is probably the most populated villain zone, it's the closest thing the Rogue Isles has to a hub. You've got a nice area around the Black Market with the University and a salvage vault, and it tends to be relatively populated, people on broadcast, etc. Plus it's an interesting zone in looks. And there's a GM you can generally get a team for.
No, it's still not like Atlas Plaza, which I know some people really miss, but I have to say I prefer the villain zones.

I'm a villain through and through....its a nice contrast and irony to my perfect and goodly nature in the real world
It might be down to familiarity, it might be down to design (GV is truely a horrible place imo), it might be down to the immersive ethics, its probably a combination of all these elements .... its not the stories though as they are very similar on both sides and even villains seem to spend more time fighting other villians than actually being evil (which is a shame/failing of CoV imo).
Of course things may change in I14 you may wish to design a mission and see it from the enemies pov and suddenly your inspiration changes...then again maybe you just want a nasty enough villian to 'justify' your oh so noble and heroic wrath!!
I like the atmosphere redside, the music, the zone scenery.. A great sg like the Handies has also helped.
My stalker was in the Handies but fell foul of the 14 day rule lol - I dont play CoV enough to stay in a SG with that kind of ruling as I am more of a periodical villain lol
Golden-Phoenix - Lvl 50 Fire/Fire Tank
Oodja Nikabolokov - Lvl 50 SS/WP Brute
Baby-Phoenix - Lvl 50 Peacebringer
How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could Chuck Norris?
I can't play stalkers full stop
Yeah it's a busy sg so unfortunately inactives are cleared regularly to make room. Many of my characters don't get used very often so I'll only put them in the sg temporarily for things like task forces. People are always welcome back.
Lol I did find it a really good and friendly VG - if I ever have enough patience to play CoV regularly I will probably re-apply for membership

Of course Hero arcs do suffer from the "Go to the far end of Far-far-away Zone to do this mission from me".

You forgot the follow-up - "then come all the way back to me so I can send you right back there again...and again..."

But like that huge golden temple, you cant serious go there 'to hang out'. Need to enter 2-3 doors, cant happy jump jump, its out of reach for too many.
Key of succes on heroes, its the starting zone. Lvl1 lvl14 or 50, all can hang out and do lotsa stuff. Like where do you celebrate your lvl50? Pocket D? Nah, atlas park for life baby!
[/ QUOTE ]
You're meant to celebrate 50s? Thought you just went to a trainer, got a grat's thread and then alted again.
But I guess I never did the whole social gathering thing anyway, well not since PDP was changed and the parties stopped
"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"

I play hero-side and get a lot of enjoyment out of the level progression and zones. Even new alts have kept me entertained following a short break.
I decided last night, following my brief sabbatical, to create a villain. Masterminds have always intrigued me and seem fun to play - played happily in the costume creator and before long my masterpiece was born!
That is where the problems started. I avoided the training section as I detest it with a passion villain-side and went straight to Kalinda. As soon as it loaded up Mercy I felt I couldn't face playing there and logged back onto Heroes.
I don't know why this is though, I love CoH and CoV is essentially the same game with a few graphical differences. Is it the fact that it always looks gloomy and depressing in the Rogue Isles compared to the relative bright cleanliness of Paragon. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is that puts me off CoV but I desperately would love to play the Villain AT's but just can't bring myself to do it!!! I did (some time back) get a Stalker to 50 through much patience and short stints but every other Villain I tried did not get past lvl 14.
Is it just me being somewhat odd or have other people felt this way (about Heroes or Villains) and is it because I started the game on CoH and that is familiar to me compared to the relative strangeness of CoV. To use 'the shoe analogy' - opting for the comfy old trainers rather than the shiny new shoes!

I soooo understand you, but think you're very sick and need help!
You see I'm exectly the same but the opposite! I can't stand playing heroes, I rush back to the redside, despite the fact I really love my ill/rad and fire/rad trollers and the concept of being the hero, the good guy.
I've tried the same reasoning "It's the same game" but I really think there's a major difference even if I can't put my finger on it. It's also the reason it saddens me so when we keep getting more and more co-op content, because even if I still like ITF there's something fundamentally wrong about my corruptors kicking roman behinds with tankers, blasters and defenders (and the occational scappers). It's just unnatural!
Take pleasure in the fact that you've got hooked on the "loads-of-content" side of the föörce! Villains are stuck with a pathetic amount of zones, missions and content in general - and NO LUSCA!!!

I also play US side, in atlas its still alot of fun to be. sewer hunts, costume contests, lvl50s being happy etc.
50)Sinergy X/(50)Mika.
(50)MaceX/(50)Encore
Sign the petition, dont let CoH go down! SIGN!
Sewer hunts are good I guess, I've just always been a galaxy starter not an atlas one

@Golden Girl
City of Heroes comics and artwork
I actually have started enjoy soloing on villains. Loads of great arcs i would have missed in the paperspam mentality of pugs.
Whils i do enjoy the teams of heroes, more recently i have found myself wanting to solo more and more. Thus i enjoy (to the most part) the riggers of the red side
I can take or leave blue side, but i definately feel more at home red side.
Mercy Isle on the other han is the worst zone in the whole game bar none. This is why i understand why some ppl go reds

Cap is my fav too. St Martial is OK too.
I hate the others. Nerva is annoyingly huge. Mercy is annoyingly hard to navigate with all those blind alleys and the dumb high up sections, Sharkshead gets old very, very quickly and Lagville is just a big mess and hell for a TPer or Superspeeder to get around.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's funny, one of the things I was thinking after posting that (as I run around Atlas on a new hero alt) is how much more annoying I find Atlas to get around than Mercy. May say something about how what you're used to or what you like for other reasons has a huge impact on perception of this kind of thing.
My main issue with Grandville isn't getting around it, not with all the temp travel powers now... it's the mission doors with Bane Spiders outside. And it can be difficult to get around when SKed up unless you're invisible. Other than that I don't really have an issue with it - the main villain I'm levelling right now is a Super Speeder, and I just run through, then use a flight pack when I'm stuck. It was horrible before that, just glad my first villain had Fly and stacked Stealth.
Nerva used to bother me, but auto-run is your friend. Sharkhead's not very interesting and everyone ignores the GM, but then I don't find any of the old hero zones interesting, so I can't count it as a huge downside. At least ferry and market are nice and close to one another, and there's a base portal in a sensible place.
