Updater not connecting.

After checking my firewall for the third time, I've decided to ask about here. My updater was working fine just lastnight. This evening however, it stays stuck on "Connecting.. #1". I know it sometimes lasts a short while, so I leave. I return to see it on "Connecting.. #8" and realise something's up.
Anyone had this before? I'm sure it's something REALLY obvious that I've missed.

Same here, had a Mapserver Disconnected, game kicked me out and now I have your same situation. I was afraid it was my pc, so thanks.

Same here, been trying to connect about 20 mins now...

My main toons on Union:
Majer; Dark/Dark Corruptor
Caitlin Calathea; Plant/Thorns Dominator

Having the same problem. Everything worked this afternoon but now I cannot connect to the updater. The diag tool mentioned somewhere on the forum reveals that I can connect to all coh servers except for cohupdateeu.coh.com, which is inaccessible.

Any workarounds to this? Can you force the client to start without the updater?

It can happen when your ISP employes packet shaping or port blocking techniques involving the ports the updater uses.
The updater will cycle round a range of ports so if you get this happening try exiting the updater and rerunning it.
It may take a few attempts.
I've also had ZoneAlarm think its a new app in the past and if you say to block then you can generate this so check your firewall logs.

Create a shortcut to the cityofheroes.exe file

change the shortcut path to include

-project eucoh

(im my case)

"C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project eucoh

this will start the game without the updater

note: that the game will not connect if you are not running the latest patch

With all due respect its probably not, my ISP packet shapes to the coh servers and i only had a problem until they fixed the login pathing, i havnt been able to connect to the update server since wednesday until i ran the coh net tools from here

i am getting a little annoyed now between the lag the map server playing up now i cant even connect to the game why do we even bother paying money these days its just problem after problem

yeah i cant connect to the updater either, im gonna give what demonic said a go but we really shouldnt have to go to this much trouble to play a game we pay for >.<

servers have definatly been playing up lately i think everyones wondering whats going on

This IS a bit annoying after my account was cancelled without explanation this week, forcing me to contact my bank to no avail then resubscribe with the same card to find it accepted :/ And now this?

Its not just BT either, lots of people in SG and friends all had problems getting on at various points with various ISPs.

Add that to all the lag and banding etc lately and it points to ingame or servers or somerhing.

Zhaan, Chakyra, Fiorina 161, Aeryn, Polly Nation, Dee Pression, Shazanne, Night Jester and too many more to mention.

I was unable to connect around 8:30, was sorted by 9pm, now I can't connect again, so I think the issue is a mixture of client, ISP and infrastructure issues.

All you can do is make sure its not your pc thats blocking you, to minimise the chances of a connect failure

Well, running two accounts on two computers, I've lately had the interesting experience of not connecting with one, while the other works fine.

Restarting the client and/or rebooting is one tip, the other is to read the updater tip GR posted a while back to "bypass" the problem.

Two computer restarts, an hour apart yesterday evening after I logged out for dinner and one this morning all to no avail.

I hope it works when I get home this evening.
