I think you need to work out where the character is going before he gets banished. He's very much fallen off the hero wagon recently and it should really go out in a way that people would feel satisfied with.
Sadly if he is just a mad dog now, that'd be taking him behind the shed with a shotgun! Which is hardly a big way to go out I'll admit. Maybe he needs to sit down and do some soul searching. Perhaps this could be why it ends for him, someone finally lays down his problems and where he strayed and he decides that atonement can never really be achieved for all the betrayl, so a sacrifice would have to do as second best.
Alternatively you can have his madness build up and then finally collapse all around him, going down in a sparking lab, fire all around and yelling about how "I cannot die yet! My Work is yet to be complete!", a proper mad scientist send off.
I'm away for a month from the 24th of Feb, so you calling me out for a final showdown might not be such a silly idea.

Seriously though, grandstanding exits are far more likely to irritate people than anything... Had one guy who used to do that every few weeks, was the ONLY person to ever cause me to retcon Ellie. 
Just have him arrested or something, especially as there's absolutely nothing heroic about him anymore... Even a sacrifice is likely to see him as wanting to buy his way back into peoples good books, and I think he's just about totally ruined ANY chance of that ever happening.

The reason that Edward can't be revamped is that he's already been a hero once before, he's already gone from ineffectual villain to effective hero and back to villain (though this time more crazy) as FFM pointed out, there's very little chance for anyone to see Ed as anything but a villain anymore...
hmm possible plottage with Infinitron but I believe someone already has first dibs on putting him down with regards his turning bad.
Jac aka Jean-Luc aka Loup Garou, Ed made him promise to kill him if he ever faltered...
Loup has never bested Edward in a training fight before (DM/Regen vs Claws/Regen) so perhaps it's time that the old wolf came back to keep hold of a promise...

Oh well that's a very complicated story you have there... You know best for sure how to end your character , but hey where people see problems i see solutions. Example you want it big way ? go to warburg pvp zone ( not sure if i spell it correct not a great pvper) and sent invitations to All heroes and villains that your character messed with ... That would be a) last prank joke villain act and b) can you imagine what will happen in between SG's there? massacre tbh , Ah also it would be a good oportunity for some to leave the forums and go smack some people :P ...

Eds been around for about two years now in one guise or another, he's built up enough backstory to choke a small horse, had enough crazy events to make even the most LSD hardened hippie think he was trippin' (including being turned into a Supa-Troll due to a Superadine accident, much fun was made of the Bruce Banner/Hulk connection) and he's also had some of the most random costumes I've ever thought of (including one that looked like a Wuzzle when wings first came out, a purple catboy with butterfly wings, spiked collar, mesh top and black cargo pants).
Edward has a lot of history behind him, he's my namesake, even putting him on hiatus for an extended time is a somewhat tough decision but I feel that I've become to dependant on the old nutjob mad scientist and he needs to be put down for a while. Currently he's one of the most vocal of Union's Rogues Gallery, the other big names are all about the plotting and the machinations which works very well for villains to keep below the radar but Edward never was someone to keep below the radar even at his most ineffective of villainy.
Someone else needs to step up and take his place for a while.

I think an arrest would be the best way to go honestly. Nothing would frustrate Ed more than being taken in by the system he believes to have already failed him. If you decide on some sort of religious redemption, Edward's old friend the Priest, is finally back in the church. I know the mad doctor is quite familiar within Moth Cathedral and old Saint Micheal is very forgiving. About the sacrificial death however, maybe some sort of fatal exorcism, requested by the doctor himself, purposely to stop the evil inside him, but performed by former adviser, the Priest, in line with what FFM suggests. (216)
Some of you may have noticed I'm inquiring on setting up a US account...
...Well I'm thinking of using that as Edwards big way to go out, unveiling to the Heroes his new invention, the temporal time/space displacement gun (aka the portal gun), able to displace heroes and villains alike to other dimensions.
Of course such a thing when invented by a mad scientist is bound to backfire perhaps dispatching him to a universe not too far removed from the Unionverse (namely the Virtueverse) as such they will have to put up with him for a while (of which their first experience of him will be him plummeting into the Virtueverse and faceplanting infront of the Galaxy Girl statue).
This is after he's used it on it's intended target...

I've done some roleplay with the Americans before, they are very good. I don't think they crowd in Galaxy City though, just so you know. They roleplay at the in-game Steel Canyon university campus, and same on forum RP.
They also use Gemini Park if I remember correctly, but they don't hang about at GG.

Aye they don't hang out there but Ed's last act will be to threaten the crowd at GG before his device goes fzztp and sends him (and only him, unless someone else is planning to open a US account) through the dimensional rift which seals up after him.

nope not closing my UK account, I can afford for a maximum of 2 MMO subscribtions so I simply cancelled my WoW account (I've played it like once in the last month) in order to be able to afford the US account.
Did a test run on the US side PD...it seems to have less griefers but the RP level is about the same (though Ed has already made a villainous friend).
As for when and how, unsure of yet.

I pondering something...
...I want Ed to go on hiatus for a while (all good villains can return) and I want him to go out in a big way, a large heroic sacrifice which will end in his physical disbodiment and his spirit being sent back to the underworld, I'm just wondering in what way can I achieve this.
It would be Eds heroic sacrifice his final act before he goes on hiatus.
