Some advice
So... Just the actual rules of the forum then?
Mind you... I'd like to know who you know what the forums were like in the beginning, seeing as you weren't on them back then.

I think this thread is a tad hypocritical if you admit yourself you do these things. I'm sure everyone already knows what they should be doing and this thread just makes you appear as some wanna be mod. If GR thought there was a problem he'd say something.
The above is only my opinion, please don't hate me for it

Perception is wonderous, nay, a glorious thing. Often, it betrays more about the one who perceives than it does about what is being perceived.
I, for example, an a pessimist, a cynic. I call myself a realist, but I'll happily admit that sometimes my realism falls over into just seeing the bad in things.
Any yet, I don't recognise the forum you're talking about.

Now, as we all know, this forum is far, FAR different from the old days when it first was here.

In fact, since I was here through at least the latter part of beta here in the EU, I don't recognise either of these forums you describe.
In days of old, I recall leaving an SG over a flame war that errupted on the forums which I wanted no part of in or out of game. It was one of the earlier wars, but hardly lonely. And since I've come back, I can recall many a thread being amusing, happy, and without acrimony.
No one is perfect. People have a desperate tendency to look back on some fictional time when things were better. Some people even believe the fashions were better in the 80s (or 70s, or 60s, it's always some earlier time they don't actually remember properly).
Nothing really changes that much, and when it does, it's usually wobbling around an average.
Disclaimer: The above may be humerous, or at least may be an attempt at humour. Try reading it that way.
Posts are OOC unless noted to be IC, or in an IC thread.

OK guys. Now, as we all know, this forum is far, FAR different from the old days when it first was here.
It's a shame that every thread seems to turn into a flamefest and everybody wants to troll everybody; and I won't deny it, I've done it myself.
So here's some advice I made up...
1. Don't meddle in threads you think are pointless
JW is right. If you think the thread is pointless, don't get involved. This will only make the thread a place for flaming and trolling, and when it's closed - you might get the blame.
2. If you see a flame war coming up or it has already started, it is wise to not post and inform a moderator
We have all seen flame wars before, and we have seen how destructive they can be (pun not intended). Similar to my last piece of advice, if a flame war's the next order at the burger bar or it's already started, don't post and modify a moderator. Other people will, but notifying the moderator yourself puts you in a good light with the moderator, and the (sensible) forum community.
3. Leave people to their opnions
You have a freedom of opnion. Don't all that to be breached. If you think the servers are low, that's OK. If you think the servers are high, that's OK. Don't start a flame war over it.
Now, that ends my post. I don't want the forum to shine a bad light on the community. After all, we do have a good one. Make sure you don't leave that sensibility and kindness in CoX and bring it to the forum, too.

[/ QUOTE ]
Does starting a pointless thread (e.g. on my advice to the world as a player-mod-in-waiting) count as meddling or not?
But more seriously: the whole OP is almost an 'agree with me or leave' clause. Fine from a mod; not so keen on them from players.
I can't begin to imagine what you really hope to achieve by attempting to 'help the mods out' - Best outcome: your post is ignored. Worst: it'll turn into a flame war due to your apparent arrogance in explaining the forum rules to us mere posters.
Sure that you probably mean good, but this thread really wasn't needed, and as such little constructive can come from it.
