SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You are running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 on a computer that has multi-core processors. A driver on the computer calls the MmProbeAndLockPages routine asynchronously. In this scenario, data corruption may occur.
*
This problem occurs randomly. It typically occurs when the following conditions are true:
*
* The computer has some graphics processing devices installed.
* You are running a graphics-intensive application.
*
When this problem occurs, the system or the application may crash. The actual symptoms vary, depending on the specific drivers that are installed on the computer.

Thanks for the link GR. Just on thing, as noted in the thread started by Ex Libris, browsers other than IE seem to incorrectly identify your OS (being linked the 32-bit hotfix for 64-bit Vista).

Having applied this hotfix over the Christmas period, I can confirm that, on Vista x64 and my 8800GT video card, I have had no video driver crashes since.

I applied this hotfix (along with another one recommended for this problem in mid December). Since applying it I have had a few stutters but no crashes as yet.

Finally the one big problem I had with the game has stopped plaguing me (YAY!)

Vista Ultimate 32bit with a 8800GTX video card.

Ohgod, I've been waiting for this one.
My 8800 crashes all the time on my vista machine when I run CoX, while everything else works fine. Grey screen of death I call it.

I take it that you only have to apply the V2 hotfix and not both?

Edit: Oh and can this get pinned since I'll inevitably have to reinstall everything in 6 months or so and will have completely forgotten about this issue by then?

I'm running an ATI HD4850 on Vista 64. CoH tends to crash about once every 2 or 3 hours although the crashes tend to come in runs.

I know that this hotfix is mainly aimed at NV users but I thought I'd give it a go anyway. I'm pretty sure that it crashes less often now. Maybe once every 8 hours instead.

Yup apply the latter of the two. I haven't had CoH crash since installing the hotfix

Not yet. It's still a 'beta' hotfix according to Microsoft, and therefore should only be applied if you're experiencing the specific problem it is intended to remedy. As soon as they're happy with it as a full fix I'm sure it will be pushed out as an automatic update, at which time this thread becomes irrelevant anyway .

applied both hotfixes, didnt do a thing ¬.¬ anything else i can do?

I've found pounding my head on the desk a particularly effective anodyne... I've tried everything and it still crashes. (Vist 64 with one or two Sparkle 8800 GT(s))

Have you checked motherboard drivers, made sure they're up to date?

ah, on a sidenote, ive discovered something potentially good for this problem, i usually crash about 1 minute after i load a new zone by this error, but ive stumbled onto a temporary fix!

tadaa!

i give to u all:

/unloadgfx

short, sweet and easy to do, i found macroing it to my powertray for easy use and doing it after i load a new zone has stopped my crashing! hope this helps the devs make a quickfix for it or something

I'm running Vista 32bit on a quad core processor and an EAH4580. The game crashes every time I try to load it, before I get to the login screen. I'm tried the hotfix, but it hasn't had any effect.

Has CoH ever worked on this PC?

What happens if you tick "Safe Mode" before pressing "I Agree"?

Posted

This is the first time I've tried it on this PC. I tried running under safe mode, and got exactly the same results.

Try updating your drivers if you haven't done so already. In particular, look for the latest video, sound and mother board drivers.

I recommend ditching the ASUS drivers and any related software. The last time I tried them, the drivers were out of date and the additional tools were useless. Download the latest driver direct from AMD instead.

I recommend using Driver Sweeper to clean up any old drivers. Use it after you uninstall your old drivers and before you install the new ones.

Can you run any other recent 3-D games on this PC successfully?

I'll check out the drivers definitely.

I've been playing games like Mirror's Edge and Assassins Creed with no problem....

That suggests that it's not a hardware problem then.

It's possible (but not likely) that your CoH installation is corrupt. If you haven't done so already, you can check and fix your installation by clicking on "Verify All Files" in the updater. It only takes a couple of minutes.

Done that a couple of times, have also done complete reinstalls on the different partitions of the HDD.....

Just thought I would let people know, I have been looking through the information on Vista SP2 and can see from the RC notes that this fix will be included in Vista SP2. Come April the problem should no longer affect people (unless SP2 brings new errors of course...)
