Edit: I did have the badge before.
I tried another toon aswell. He had all the badges, and I chose candy canes as reward. Again, got nothing.

Any other details that you think might be related: Got all badges/powers soloing from PD2, moved to other PD and teamed up with L46 hero and L8 corruptor (LKed) ran 3-4 more times, no canes for anyone. Team broke up, went back to original PD, started getting canes again, worked even after joining new team.

I got the reward of 5 candy canes the first time I did the mission. Nothing about the team setup changed and the subsequent 3 missions I selected the canes again and got nothing. I was completing a lvl 30 character's mission un-malefactored.

The problem is sidekicking. I petitioned it, and they told me that being sidekicked and doing someone else's mission will not get you your reward.

Umm, midnight guard... have you looked at the figures above? Most of them aren't sidekicked or lackeyed.
Think the mission has to be set to your own exact level as well, at least that's what GM Clive said:

no reward on second run (candy canes requested again)

They need to think again I'm afraid. This doesn't explain why my lvl 50 PB (unexemplared) failed to get a reward twice in a row.

If you have nothing useful to say, you have two choices: Say something useless or stay quiet.
Workaround on this is.. Make certain you have taken the mission yourself, from father time. Be in team with others and when mission is complete, simply say yes to autocomplete. It should give you the 5 candy canes.
However the sidekick issue still stand out. I was sidekicked, i had my own mission, but we where doing another ones mission and I did get 0 candy canes. Thus i would advice at the end stay unsidekicked. (its a hassle i know)

Ran it twice on other people's missions when I had it also; chose to auto complete my mission each time and selected the Rez power both times; neither time gave me the reward
One thing to note on this - if you already have the badge, from doing these missions in a previous year, then you will not get the reward again. This is WAI.
