Problems logging into the forums (Firefox way)

Have a little problem logging into the forums.
I use Mozilla Firefox and have not had this problem before.
Problem in question is I am sort of logged in, cause when i press the option to login i come to "My Home" page. I cannot edit anything, nor can i post anything and when i press "log-in" all i get is "My Home" page.

Reason why I can post things is that i've logged in via Explorer. So... the problem must lie with FireFox.
Anyone have any solution or ideas I could use to fix the problem?

I also use Mozilla Firefox now (its to easy to get malware using IE) and it works fine for me. Did you change anything since the last time it did work?

No, no changes at all. I may be still "logged in" on another computer (firefox), and logged in via explorer here.
But my firefox version at my CoX computer will not let me log in...
Yes I use Firefox to, for same reason you gave GrinningSpade. And throughout the entire CoX life (almost 2 years).. i've had no such problems with Firefox...

I'm using firefox as well, seems ok at the moment. The CoX forums do seem to be surprisingly unreliable though, compared to others anyway. Sometimes there are no problems, other times I can read from them but not post, often they're completely unavailable.

I use Firefox as my main browser and I have had this problem a couple of times (only recently). The work around is to use a different browser (not a different instance of Firefox) to access your forum account. Firefox will be fine after a few minutes.

I think it’s a problem with data getting stuck in Firefox’s cache, but as it’s easily solved and happens rarely I haven’t bothered to look into it.

If you don’t want to use IE as a substitute, install Opera or if you use iTunes Safari will probably have wormed its way onto your system anyway.

I dunno.... And people call IE a buggy piece of tosh!

pfft don't believe anyone who says Firefox is perfect. I use it because I have more control over it than I ever did over IE, plus it has lots of amazingly useful addons available. Perfect it ain't.

Phew... Finally back on Firefox.
Thanks LeighB. It was the data getting stuck in Firefox's cache.
Simple solution, letting ccleaner take care of it

Cleaner??

It is obvious that i dont know Firefox well. But i am only using it for a few days right now. But where and how do you activitate this cleaner? After all Firefox freezes my forum no and then as well but here is was thinking oh thats the forum acting up.

CCleaner isn't a firefox tool, it's a freeware 'system cleaner' for windows systems. Some people have had good results with it, some have had problems. I've never used it myself. I clean my system 'bits' individually when I feel a need to.

There are options on the privacy and network tabs (tools menu/options) on firefox for clearing the cache and cookies and such things if you need to.

Ccleaner didn't help me at all. I got fed up with this login issue and I'm using Google Chrome for the boards. At least Chrome seems to load pages faster.

Yea, I have done just about everything I can think of to firefox. (including starting with a clean load of firefox) and STIll cannot stay logged into this forum. Once signed in, 1 or 2 clicks inside the forum and it logs you out.

WHAT a PIA!

However, I belong to many forums using the same software as this forum. And never have this type of issue with them.

At this point, the forum is useless for Firefox users.

Incorrect. It is useless for you maybe, but I am running Firefox and all is running just as it should. So it's not "useless for Firefox users".

We'll see....

I am happy that your firefox is working. However, as the above thread shows, it does not work for all.

I was not making the statement on your behalf, as your a lucky one with the working version of the software, I was making the statement for us unlucky ones who are experiencing this issue. And any QA department would also state the same thing. Firefox is useless if it cannot, with all varibles being the same, log all into the system.

Perhaps, instead, you can "Help" the discussion. What version of firefox are you running? What add-ons do you have? What are the java/security settings your using for your browser? What about your OS? What Service pack?

Perhaps rather than making sweeping generalizations such as "Firefox is useless to us" you could have asked for the information in your original post.

I'm not currently at home so I can't answer in full detail. I know I'm running one of the 3.5.x.x Firefox builds. Extensions that could/would interfere with something like a login are NoScript, Session Manager and AdBlock+. I'm running Vista Home Premium 64-bit.

If you haven't tried deleting all cookies related to this site, that should be your first step as this resolves this the majority of the time.

We'll see....

I've had similar issues with the latest Firefox (3.5.2) running on Vista. On top of that sometimes when I log in I'll get sent to the redirect page with the "thanks for logging on" and once I've been redirected... I'm no longer logged on. A second or third attempt and I'm on. Very odd.

It seems there is an issue w/ DNS prefetching it the latest version of Firefox.
I have had a problem with getting page not found w/ the latest version of Firefox, then when I refresh and it works ok. I'm not sure if this problem with the COx forums is related but I seemed to have solved my problem by creating the following entry in the "about:config" of Firefox.

Once you are in the the about:config area, right click in the window and select create new boolean. The string is: network.dns.disablePrefetch and should be set to TRUE

Like I said, I'm not sure if this will fix the COx message board issue but it might, use at your own risk. It has fixed my other issues with FF. From what I've read the issue seems more prevalent with those running netgear and 2wire routers.

I can also confirm this problem. I had to revert to IE or Google Chrome as FF 3.5 didn't let me log in properly.

And yet for me, I actually upgraded to FF 3.5 to prevent a minor QoL issue I was having with an earlier version. I have also applied the Stylish add-on to take advantage of a self-modified version of Zombie's Forum Skin.

I love the new forums more than ever.
