They'd install ok, but there was some apparent bug with trying to get the drivers and the video card to actually communicate with one another. I finally had no choice but to re-install the older drivers.
I didn't suggest you use the most recent drivers, but do a fresh reinstall of the version you have.
  2. You will have to accept the fact that one day your mouse will go out on you at the worst possible "gaming" moment but other than that, I think most of them work well.

Personally, I have no need for a wireless mouse or keyboard, therefore, I don't use one.
  3. I would try an uninstall and reinstall of the video driver...not sure which exactly is going to be best for your 7800gs, probably stick with the version you have. Also, you could try updating your Direct X.

If you still have problems, I would run at least 5 passes with memtest86 to rule out the RAM.
  4. Because it only happens after you've been playing awhile, it could be an overheating issue, but that's just a guess since you supplied no information about your system.

I look at my antivirus as the last line of defense. If you're someone who is consistently discovering viruses on their system--to coin an internet meme, you're doing it wrong.

Yes, this is what I'm using on my gtx 280 (more or less, the same thing as a 285) as I type this. I'm not sure what number you're looking at, however. Go to your Nvidia control panel and click the "system information" in the bottom left. You should see this number after "driver version."

    Tearing problems

Personally, I'm not convinced that the incorrect driver listing from DX Diag and the tearing is related. If you go to your nvidia control panel and select system information on the bottom left, you can clearly see what version driver you are using.

For the sake of troubleshooting, I would forgo the specialized COx settings you have and set everything in the Nvidia control panel to default and see how that looks. Then, enable vsync and see if that helps.

Maybe its not true anymore but the bloom effects setting ingame always used to cause me issues and slowdowns, try turning that off.

Forgive me if this was stated already but, are you on a CRT or LCD monitor? Have you tried different refresh rates? Usually 60hz its standard on an LCD, sometimes it gets set to 59.

Are you using any overclocking utilities with the GPU? Something could be futzed with that.

What kind of framerate do you get in game?

Any thoughts on what the problem might be and how to fix it?
Try using the graphics driver 185.85. I've had the same thing happen and this driver, for whatever reason, seems to work with COx the best.

Here's the link for the 64 bit WHQL (release version)

  9. It seems there is an issue w/ DNS prefetching it the latest version of Firefox.
I have had a problem with getting page not found w/ the latest version of Firefox, then when I refresh and it works ok. I'm not sure if this problem with the COx forums is related but I seemed to have solved my problem by creating the following entry in the "about:config" of Firefox.

Once you are in the the about:config area, right click in the window and select create new boolean. The string is: network.dns.disablePrefetch and should be set to TRUE

Like I said, I'm not sure if this will fix the COx message board issue but it might, use at your own risk. It has fixed my other issues with FF. From what I've read the issue seems more prevalent with those running netgear and 2wire routers.

As far as performance is concerned with COx, Vista -is- that bad and Win7 -is- that much better, in my experience at least and I am no Vista hater. I used it for quite awhile but until Win7 RC was released, I used to run an XP partition just for COx. My system is no slouch, but on Vista there is a fair amount of stuttering and choppiness. I really had no issues an any other game.

I find that Win7 runs COx as well, if not better than XP regarding smoothness and framerates, on my rig anyway.
  11. The only thing that *may* be worth waiting for is Windows 7 to ship in October. Of course, installing a new OS is easy enough for most users. True, you could do the "upgrade" path but it's not recommended for the most part, from what I've read. I guess it depends on how fast you want the new 'puter and how you feel about installing a new OS. There's really going to be no reason (besides cost) to stick with Vista once Win 7 ships, my opinion only.

COx is running great on my Win7 RC fwiw.
  12. It works perfectly on my Windows 7 RC machine, in fact, it's much smoother than it is on my Vista partition. I had no problems installing or anything. However, I can only get it to work on Nvidia's 185.85 graphics driver. The others I have tried presented problems.

    Intel QX9650
    GTX280
    Windows 7 RC 7100
  13. Windows 7's UAC is significantly less annoying than Vista's in the default setting. It also has a few different levels you can select. However, it doesn't play well with Logitech setpoint and COx apparently. My other games seemed to be unaffected.
  14. Solved: Turning off UAC fixed the problem.
  15. This is actually a Setpoint issue but I thought maybe some COx users had some insight. I'm running Win7 64 bit and I can't get setpoint to recognize COx. In other words, the keys I program into the mouse don't take effect when I run COx.

I've tried a few things like adding the updater.exe and the shortcut.lnk to the setpoint program manager to see if that would trigger it but no luck. Any tips are greatly appreciated!
