Could CoH expand into other genres outside an MMO?
A FPS. You're a Vanguard soldier and you fight Rikti in the game. Such a cliché, ya?
Well, widening the term 'genre' a bit, they have already done a CCG and the, sadly ill-fated, RPG. I still think the RPG had legs, and would've been a good way to expand the background.
How about Sim Paragon City? It's be like Sim City, but with the added interest of superpowered battle demolishing buildings every so often.

I wonder if an out and out RPG is too much like the MMO to really be successful (although I must admit I've not read any details of the proposed format), which is why I thought about an RTS style. You're right though, another style of game would give more scope to expand the backstory, and also open up the Paragon Universe to people that might not necessarily enjoy MMOs, but do like comic super heroes.
I like the idea of Sim Paragon though, and of course the ever popular FPS

I always thought it could be cool to have another MMO linked to ours, where the population data of a "sims" style game like second life, is used to create the civilian population in CoH!

Hmmm, hard to think of a game genre that would both appeal to the majority of CoX players and fully capitalise on the variety of characters in the CoX universe. Beat-'em-up I suppose... along the line of MK Vs DC?.
Second Paragon? Or is that Paragon Life
Thelonious Monk
A Co* RTS game'd be fun, pass it to the people who make the Dawn of War games and have Arachnos, Council, Nemesis and Longbow as the 'armies' with each map being CoH/CoV zones. Add in a unique system which spawns random Superheroes or Supervillains to cause chaos and you got a game.
Since nobody else has said about it, how about a Co* racing game? Play it like a cross between Burnout and Mario Kart with the signature Heroes and Villains driving and parts of the zones as racing tracks. As you drive you can slowly build up Endurance Points to use your char's powers in some way, off the top of my head...
Synapse - Gets out and pushes the car super fast for 5 seconds, zaps the nearest car with a bolt of lightning stunning them for a little while
Statesman - Picks up his car and flies for 10 secs letting you cut corners, drives up to and punches/flips a nearby car
Manticore - Fires an arrow at a nearby car's tyre slowing them down and mucking up their handling, turns invisible and gains a small speed boost for 5 seconds
Recluse - Fires energy beams from his spider legs randomly exploding and stunning cars infront of him, summons Bane Spiders in small cars around him who absorb any powers aimed at him
Mako - Disappears underground with just a fin showing and stuns anyone he drives under, front of his car opens like a shark's mouth and grabs the car infront and throws them aside
Black Scorpion - Fires a beam from his tail strait ahead knocking any cars in the way aside and slowing them down for a few seconds, fires a beam from his arm at a nearby car knocking them into the wall
Have an unlockable Generic Hero 100927 which looks like the green char from character creation and it'd be awesome
I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.
Union EU player! Pip pip, tally ho, top hats and tea etc etc
How about a digital version of the CoH card game? Another company in the MMO business has been making card game after card game based on either their MMOs, or licence from TV series etc, and the latest one (launched in late August) seems to have quite a following.
*throttles Beet for ever suggesting "CoX Kart*
Mario Kart clones... baaaaaaaaad.

I'd be more for a Famicom Wars/Fire Emblem-esque game TBH. Signature heroes with a small army of lesser guys based on the main game's ATs battling it out on a grid-based map against Signature villains with a small army of... you get the idea. With a few extras, like attacking with a KB-capable char knocks the enemy away a few squares etc... *rambles on*

Stuff
Beatbox Hero. It could include such classics as 'BB Spaz', 'BB Yellow', and 'BB Wah'. It'd be on the Wii so you had to wave the controllers in a manner reminiscent of actual CoH dances. As your level increases, you have to think up more excuses to not start a mission and continue dancing.

I would pay my life savings for that. No, seriously.
Also, about the "CoX Kart", I remember when I played MotorStorm I made it up that it was a Heroes and Villains racing tourament set in a desert in the Rogue Isles. I pretended all the racers were my characters, my friend's characters and the signature characters. It was awesome shouting "DAMN YOU, STATESMAN GETTING IN 1ST PLACE" to yourself.

Think they'd need a bit more than 25p to make it viable
Thelonious Monk
Beat em up where you gain levels each erm.. level and pick/slot powers like you do just now.
Actually the RTS idea reminds me a lot of freedom force.

Learn how to make delicious meals for your family with the Heroes of Paragon City. Healthy food that tastes good, not evil. You too can be a hero...in the kitchen!
@craggy see me on Union for TFs, SFs (please!) or just some good ol fashioned teaming.
Freedom Force with City of Heroes powers would be awesome. I've already tried creating a few of my own characters in it, and it works surprisingly well.

SimCity with Paragoncity.
With random events like Rikti invasion, the hollowing, a quake or two, some ancient gods making their home in your neighbourhood, some fairies who like to life on our planet, a giant squid in the harbour, zombies running amok and of course heroic battles demolishing stuff all around the town. Can you build up the town to it fullest potential before Nemesis releases his latest scheme?
This one actually would be fun to play.
Or:
Or a command and conquer style game. Play one of the factions. Expand your powerbase and destroy the other factions while avoiding to get the full attention of the meddling heroes.Until your doomsday device is ready of course and your unstoppable armies take on the best Paragoncity has to offer.
Idea deleted by myself.
though i like the C&C idea hehe
I like the beat 'em up idea

Was originally going to post this in Suggestions, but thought it more apt in here.
Got me thinking whilst playing my Warshade, floating high above the team and watching their scurrying whilst unleasing purple fluffy death, would CoH work as an RTS in a similar vein to MechCommander? Instead of choosing the sets for each member, have "token" characters - say start off with a claws / regen scrapper, leccy blaster and a stormie defender and unlock additional ones as you progress. I realise that this is dangerously close to being a CoH themed Marvel UA, but it'd play more like Dungeon Siege or MechCommander where you're controlling the action from a third rather than first person perspective. You wouldn't "be" any of the characters, but would control what they did individually or as a group.
Are there any other game genres you can think of that could use the CoH Universe as their setting?
