I13: Save/Load Cossies!

Not seen this mentioned over here yet, but this is awesome!!

Click for Cossie Goodness News!

"In the top-right corner of the costume creator, you see a Save and Load button. These do exactly what you think: Save a costume (colors, pieces, etc), name it, then use it on another character by loading it! It saves your costume in the main City of Heroes directory by default (though you can change it) as a .costume filetype."

This has so many potential uses, it's unreal! Be especially handy for those SG's with a SG Cossie, no more trying to describe the colour position, just give people the file

Oooh now THAT I like! Very handy feature, and good find

Oh praise the lord!!

Great for copying across "baseline" versions of one cossie into another slot for customising.

Agreed!!! I wonder if anyone would object to this feature!!

I can think of a possible exploit with this...

I really should do something about this signature.

How could you possibly exploit this!?

Only way I can think of involves the Paid-for expansion packs.

I'd assume that if an account without them tries to load a Saved Cossie with them it defaults the sections to the Standard ones though, it'd be silly otherwise.

Since the system isn't live there's no reason to be cryptic about it PRAF. may as well explain your thoughts.

Edit the .costume file to point to costume items you haven't unlocked, or are otherwise unavailable.

So, PM BaB about it and ask?

It would be a pretty poor programmer that can't verify a simple unlocked flag on a costume piece... That would come under basic data validation...

Already confirmed in the thread it won't let you

I presume it either won't let you at all or just defaults to something else.

Yes. Because a programmer would never include a check on each item loaded to check it is valid. That'd just be crazy...

We were discussing this the other day in another thread - perfect timing! This is EXACTLY what the game needs

All we need now is an offline character creator module!

Oh nice, now I can put that awesome pink tights with the heart symbol on all of my characters.

What?!
Its just a secret idenity, nobody needs to know its me!

As for the exploit - well, it's not a huge programming challenge to prevent it from happening. It's like a document referring to a font you don't have, when you transfer a document to a different machine - the name of the font isn't found in the 'accessible list', so the font is genericised. I'm sure the same logic works for costumes.

Edit the file manually and gain access to parts you haven't unlocked, would be my guess. I rather hope that its not possible to do that but still be able to fine tune the costume offline.... now that would be neat.

A save your cossie button

Now that is something that has been requested many times for a QoL thing.

Thanks for listening to us DeV's

This would have been nice before Pashmina and Cashmere got all 5 costume slots unlocked rather than having both at Icon and trying to match them

"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"

Giant Metal Enforcerbot #4815162342 is pleased with this addition!

I see it being most useful in being able to save scales on a toon so you've got a default face/body shape to work off for each costume slot that you can tweak or reset as needed.

I'm happy.

Remember when I made one of my characters as Broadword/Something. Painful to change scales to be like my original character. :/
