talking to a friend once who was describing a computer problem and he comes out with the phrase "and the drive was just filled with a huge 100.2 gig T X T file" ... seriously, why say the letters TXT.... it stands for TEXT.. dropping a vowel and adding two syllables does NOT make it shorter!

[/ QUOTE ]Because a "TXT file" clearly means .txt, while a "text file" could be .txt, .doc, .odf, or several other formats.

Indeed. Precision is often mistaken for geekishness.

I love Bios, I have been collecting them for quite a while.
They make me smile, they make me cry, ...but always in a good way.

Paragon would be a poorer place without these genius bios.
I salute them.

People who you've never talked to before who call you mate immediately.

You must hate Aussies then... G'day mate!

[/ QUOTE ]

Down here if you call someone mate its a sign of respect, regardless whether you know them or not

[/ QUOTE ]

Thats sort of similar to Glasgow where if someone you don't know calls you "Pal" its a sign of imminent violence. Or maybe not so similar!

As I posted above, I generally just hate people, and that is regardless of nationality, creed, religion, race etc. I'm fairly equal with my hatred.

Of course Australians are to blame for that darn Australian Questioning Intonation currently pervading British youths. Yeah, that annoys me too. I'm just a bitter old man.

Performing arts tutor? Don't even get me started on actors. That's a whole other rant.

Hey, it's not just actors on a Performing Arts course, y'know! How about all those long-suffering backstage crew who build the sets and take all the diva nonsense from all the aforementioned 'actors?'

Ooops, guess I'm drifting off-topic here. Okay then, lemme think a sec....

I must admit I like it when Mastermind characters get creative with their minion's names - seeing a sea of 'Zombie's, 'Punk's and 'Genin's et al can get a bit dull after a while. Especially when you consider there are no restrictions on minion names like there are with avatars.

Name your minions with pride, I say!

Well...somehow I can't name a minion Arthur. I tried multiple times but all the time the name gets reset.

Is there something about a name like Arthur that isn't allowed?

My Zombie MM is called Melchior, his Grave Knights are called Gaspar and Balthazar. His zombies are called Ishmael, Jacob and Samson and his wraith is called Lazarus.

Just need a good Biblical name for a Lich when I get it.

I've wondered about this too. With my MM I originally wanted to name his Assault Bot "Megatron" after the Decepticon leader from the G1 Transformers franchise, then name the ProtBots after his lieutenants, and have the drones named after all 3 Decepticon seeker jets. But the game wouldn't let me name a pet Megatron, and Starscream was blocked too (even though Skywarp and Thundercracker were accepted).

My suspicion is that the pet names are filtered using the player name filter - I suspect it won't block for using a pet/player name that already exists, but it will block for any pet/player name that has been banned in the past for either being a copyright breach or otherwise breaking the naming rules. So I reckon some players have been generic'd in the past for using Megatron and Starscream as names, but not any of the others I tried (nor the 6 Decepticon names I eventually used ).

But even if that is true I can't see why "Arthur" would be blocked unless it was frequently being used in some kind of compound name that broke the naming rules (although I can't think of anything obscene or copyright infringing involving that name atm). E.g. I recall from when I played EverQuest that a player on my server had the name "Zgrim" for 2+ years, but then decided to add "Reaper" as a surname - but soon after a GM took a dislike to it being a "compound phrase" and not only deleted the surname, but forcibly changed his first name too (to something the player hated, sadly), then must have added "Zgrim" to the naming filter's ban-list as it was "unavailable" after that (or so I recall from the furore that followed - the player did quit the game over it).

Maybe a GM/Mod just took a dislike to the name "Arthur" at some point in CoH/V and added it to the filter list as a banned name.

Hmm, that looks like a possible explanation. A stupid one if it was true.

I actually wanted to name him Arthur because of King Arthur and if anyone remembers The Journeyman games(Especially Buried in Time).

I hope that a GM then doesn't dislike: Highlander or Stargate because otherwise I couldn't call my henchmen: Duncan, Connor, Jack or Daniel

I got something like that recently, now you mention it - I wanted to call one of my thugs Lucifer but the game wouldn't have any of it. At the time I just thought it was because it might be considered offensive to Christians or something. Can't see how Arthur would offend though...

I always thought the naming of minions was more free-range because they were attached to your avatar, which HAS to have a unique name. Guess I was wrong then...
