Variation on Group Fly

Not sure if it's been suggested before (i couldn't see it in the frequently suggested list) but I find Group Fly a bit of an odd power, although there ARE ways to explain how your powers can cause somebody else to fly, it's a little out of the box to assume anybody who flies would automatically get a power like this as natural progression.

Personally I think it'd be a better use of the pwoer to have "Carry Team Mate" as the alternative, with flying speed slowed in 2 seperate stages, the first if you carry one person and the second if you carry two. (Obviously, carryign more than 2 people - 1 in each hand - would be a bit ridiculous.) Maybe it's just a wish from a roleplayer I don't know. I just think carrying somebody else is more realistic than causing them to fly by being in your vacinity.

That depends on your character concept, a magic hero/villain may use a spell to grant those nearby flight, or a technology origin may use an anti-gravity generator and set it to a large field to encompas nearby allies. And so on and so forth.

and what about natural, what if your creature is able to fly naturally, then what?

i see your aim, but do know that it's made to fly your whole party with you, limiting to to 2 only makes it useless.

I know that's what it's used for. But it's very rare it ever is used (obviously there are some cases but as a whole i've rarely seen people use group fly in any situation other than roleplay.) I didn't title the thread "new group fly" I titled it "VARIATION on group fly." Personally I think group fly as is is a pretty useless power apart from in a couple of rare occasions/zones where it has a valid use. Most people in a team will just use their travel powers respectively and rendezvous at the next place they are heading. If we had a "carry other" option (doesn't even need to be a power, perhaps just an option when flying to click on the person you wished to carry) it'd be a way to portray that classic superhero scene of picking up the damsel in distress from the top of a building, flying off into the sunset and carrying her to safety. It was just a suggestion, I forgot that most of the people in this forum I see seem to try and knock down ideas rather than build on them constructively. But then, good gaming communities are hard to come by I guess .

Then why did you suggest if you only expected negoative responses?

Anyways... Sure it would be more realistic to carry someone on your back when flying... Just a teeny tiny problem. How can it be realistic when you are flying?

There's quite a big difference between being critical, and giving reasons for being critical - dismissing an idea as bad or useless is not good, but explaining why you think an idea is not good is fine.

Come on most of the suggestions posted here only provoke negative responses (With the possible exception of well thought out 'new content' ideas) . Which is kinda sad, I dislike the lack of respect for other peoples creative time and effort but it's probably unlikely to change.

That is true. But what if the somewhat negative responses are umm... Well constructed pieces of art?

Like the whole "carry person of back when flying for realism". Realism is broken when you activate fly.

Sorry didn't mean to disrespect the disrespecter who disrespects in a well thought out, constructive manner, dis respect really

Ehem... Well constructed as in it explains why the negative critic is being given. And perhaps offer a solution which would turn the negative into positive.
(your post confused me for a while... Brain hurts)

For the record, let's use the term "convincing" instead of "realistic" to avoid pointless nit-picking.

I love the concept of group fly - we've all seen Dave Cockrum's delivery of the X-Men, Phoenix, Rogue & Storm bringing in the heavies on a splash page, but in game terms it's a bit borked unless you're in a team with several exemps who don't have travel powers. It's actually a pain and fly is a bit gimped in several aspects, so I'd much prefer to see it replaced with something of real benefit, for example aerobatics, kb resist or something not dissimilar to acrobatics in the leaping pool

Use your imagination, for example, I pretend that I'm on a bike when I use Super Speed.

Well, think! What's your char? An alien? A human? A demon? A catgirl from another universe? Any excuse could be applied to aquiring Group Fly to the above and more. You just have to use your noggin!

Your origin doesn't necessarily have to affect EVERY power choice, so a Natural character could, as an example, have come across a spell that allows the effects of Group Fly.
