The veteran rewards are little gratifying

Look veteran Rewards 45 Months: Eternal, there is only a respectÂ….. I suggest one travel power (Ultra-speed fly) or costume pieces for 45 months game.
All veteran would be to do again, only my opinion.

That doesn't make sense.

Here's an idea I read a few weeks/days ago:

Let us select from a list of Veteran Rewards instead of waiting for them.

I believe what Heroishere is trying to express is that all the Veteran Awards should be redone/re-jigged.
A lot of people feel the same.

So suggest something

Indeed /signed.
A simple token system would also be alot better than the current system.

/not signed

If you can choose whatever vet reward you want at the beginning, then after 18 months you'll basically have everything you want, eg the pets and temp powers, and possibly a costume/respec/base item of your choice.

You're then left with rubbish for the rest of the time.

I'm looking forward to the first pet because it will actually mean I've achieved something.

The only way I could /sign this is if they were bundled up, so in the first twelve months you had a choice from set A. The second year from set B and so on.

Don't think I've seen either a charecter in Samuri Armour or a Boxer in my time in CoH, but perhaps less useful would have been a better turn of phrase

To be fair the fact that after 18 months means you'll have all the good stuff tells more about how many less than wanted Vet rewards there are than good ones.

Looking through I decided that once 18 months was up (Samurai armour and 2nd respec) that there was really nothing that jumped out making me go "oooh shiny" until 33 months (Blackwand/Nemesis Staff) the rest ranges from 'meh' to 'kinda alright' (none of them are awful since they're free...something for nothing is always good) until you get to the later 3 and half/4 years rewards which is a long time to wait for something thats genuinely nifty.

While you may have not seen someone use complete samurai armour I've seen people using bits and pieces of it all the time but rarely in a complete set.

But yes the vet rewards need a revamp and I've always seen the token system as a prefered method.

Edit: I also hate not being able to sleep...got work later today

Yep, the 45 month reward was pretty disappointing. And the 51 and 54 are looking pretty weak as well. I was gonna moan some about the 39 month boxing set too, but i am using those boots now with pants

Some more creativity would be nice.
As far as Samuraij or Boxing being underused... think on it some. Boxing is 39 month reward, there's not alot who have that badge, then to find someone amogn those with a boxing char. I've seen two so far and several more samuraijs, one using full set of it last night. I think it's good they made the themed pieces like these, would upset less people.

Can ya imagine the moaning if they made PPD Enforcer bot suit for say 60th month reward?

Eh. I find the veteran rewards fine as is. Remember, the reward for playing for 45 months is not just a badge and a respec -- it's a badge and a respec in addition to all the previous veteran awards. Each reward is really for playing for three more months, not for all the months you've played so far.

(And I've used costume pieces from both boxing and samurai for my characters.)

My reasoning is simple: Why do you want to be able to pick the good stuff first? Oh, yes, to get the good stuff. So, by you've got the first 18 months worth, you'll have SoM, Nem staff, Trenchcoats, Vet Wings, Buff pet, Team TP... and what do you have to look forward to?

I like the fact that they've spread the 'good stuff' out, because it gives you something to look forward to.

Remember, Vet rewards are a bonus for having played the game for an extended period of time, and are basically for nothing except bragging rights - being able to pick all the good stuff early actually defeats the purpose for which the rewards were created in the first place.

Yup, I agree with Shadowe. Some of the VRs are rubbish, because they are meant to be rubbish: they are there to spread out the good stuff. Letting people choose defeats the object of VRs, to keep them playing year upon year.

I really should do something about this signature.

Quite many of my characters have Samurai Armour bits in their clothes: the shoulderpads, for example, are wicked. And the boxer pants are really neat. My brute switched to those from the old-style shorts as soon as they came available to me. I also have a few characters who use the boots and one that has the Gloves. "Anime" Armour on the other hand is pretty dull and doesn't end up on my costumes that often

IMO the 6 month reward is quite useless, if more if that kind of junk comes i wonder how big there imagination really is.

Does not change the fact they suck as a veteran reward.(not even going to mention the amoun t of scrolling one has to do because of them aswell... Back when I was young if took alot less time to get to stars4.)
Even if there is one and three-quarters(is this even possible?) of people that likes them.

Meh. They're not very shiny, perhaps, but they're useful. Greek letters fit a lot of themed heroes.

Okay, so I'm feeling quite snarky today. My apologies.

Some people think that some of the Vet rewards are rubbish? Then the solution is to remove them completely from the game. All of them. Gone will be Vet wings, Sands of Mu/Ghostslaying Axe, Nemesis Staff and Blackwands. That's the fair way to get rid of all the 'rubbish' ones. Get rid of the good ones, too.

Yes, some of the rewards have less utility than others. They're not meant to have much utility. They're meant to be a bonus set of options that you have for having played the game for a long time. If they scrapped all the 'rubbish' Vet rewards, we'd be left with the 'good' ones, and nothing happening in between.

The devs didn't have to add Vet Rewards. They're a bonus. Not a right.

hmm but perhaps there should be less pap and more shiny? Why should all the vet rewards bar a special few be kinda meh simply because they want to pad it out so you have to wait for the good ones.

Perhaps once the vet rewards hit the 5 year mark they should stop adding new ones and start adding new stuff to the older, less appealing rewards. 5 years is a stupidly long time to wait for something for someone who has just joined us anyway and to be brutual honest the game may not even be around when the newbie would have hit his 5 year mark (all indications say that it will survive but you never really know, life and MMOs are unpredictable to say the best).

If your so against the 'pick your own vet reward' method which is the way I feel they should have done it from the start (that way they could had added rewards without worrying about giving some really cool stuff out and only a very slim minority getting hold of it) then prehaps capping at the 5 years and going back adding stuff to rewards they know are meh (Greek letters, Enemy group chest detail, Base teleporter (because both Pocket D and oroborous portal now provide quick access to many zones without the need for teleporting to your base), the non-combat pets, the one month where you get just a respec).

The point is the longer veteran rewards go, the more pointless they become, five years is already stretching it, there can't be many five year vets in the game if they carry on and actually do hit 10 years well that's just beyond freaking stupid in my opinion. Nobody is going to gleefully look at the next 5 years worth of rewards and notice they're going to have to spend a very long time playing an MMO to get a vet reward they think would be cool.

This way, once a vet hits five years, they will always earn the next reward since they already have those badges but for people just joining the game they get extra stuff added to those not quite so decent rewards.

I like a lot of the veteran rewards. The powers, the free respecs, the cossie pieces and the free tailor rewards. Lets not forget the free character slots. I hope they will make more rewards available and at lower levels to. Can't ahve enough nifty free stuff!

Completely agreed.

I think this thread is starting to diverge into two.
1 : People discussing the original post regarding picking your veteran reward
2 : People discussing whether or not veteran rewards are worth it at all.

In response to both.
I *don't* like the idea of being able to pick a vet reward every three months.
I *do* think the current scheme and rewards are absolutely fine.

Yes, I personally perceive some of the vet rewards as "rubbish". That simply makes the good ones even more rewarding.
