On behalf of Knight Stalker, who is the main organiser for X4: The Evolution, here are the updated announcement and rules for this PvP event:

X4: The Evolution

Miss S4? You won't soon! Yes, after many different ideas popping into Knight Stalker's head, he's finally decided that the idea he likes most is another pentad event. Having really enjoyed S4, he would like to see another similar event and hopes that others would get the same enjoyment he found from participating in it.

With X4 things will vary a little from the original S4. There will be one event, to be held on the test server. This will allow all teams from all servers to take part in the same competition.

Registration is now open and all entries must be in by 11:59pm on 31 August 2008. The event will start the following weekend at 7:30pm on 6 September 2008. Matches will be run weekly. Be assured it will not be left to linger and you will be updated as often as possible. Match dates after the first week are negotiable, depending on Judge availability, and can be arranged for any time during the week with the agreement of the judges, the organiser, and the teams involved.

[u]Judges[u]
Judging will be done by the Community team (GhostRaptor, Kerensky and Palladium), giving a truly impartial decision in the case of a dispute. Their decision will be final. This will give Knight Stalker the chance to compete in this event if he chooses to do so.

[u]Teams[u]
Each team will consist of 5 members and all Archetypes, except epics, are available (see below for further details).

Teams may be all Heroes, all Villains, or a hybrid team drawing from both sides. Hero teams must consist of the five standard Hero AT's, and Villains of the five standard Villain AT's. Hybrid teams may select either a Hero or Villain AT from each of the five rows in the below table:

Code:[/color]

Heroes <-> Villains
_________________________
Tanker <-> Mastermind
Scrapper <-> Brute
Blaster <-> Stalker
Defender <-> Corrupter
Controller <-> Dominator

For example, you could have the following team: Tanker, Brute, Stalker, Defender, Controller.

To register your team, please see this thread.

[u]Server[u]
The Event will be held on the Test Server and is open to teams from all Servers.

[u]The Rules[u]
In the event of any disputes that arise, that may be rule related or game related, the Judges decision is final.

[u]Divisions[u]
There will be two divisions for X4: Cruiserweight (level 40) and Featherweight (level 21). For division-specific rules, please see below.

[u]Tournament Structure[u]
Both Divisions will utilise the Double Elimination tournament structure, ensuring that all teams get to play at least two matches.

[u]Scheduling[u]
The Featherweight division will commence at 7:30pm on Saturday, September 6th. Cruiserweight will commence the following day, September 7th, again at 7:30 pm.

[u]Substitutions[u]
In the event that a player is unable to attend a match, substitutions will be considered after consultation with the organisers and the judges.

In the interests of avoiding forfeits and minimising problems arising from scheduling conflicts, each team will be allowed 1 substitution per match during the event.

[u]Matches[u]
Any match may be abandoned within 10 seconds of starting if both team captains agree that the map is unsuitable (eg if there is a known bug that could cause difficulty). Should only one team captain protest, the match will continue. In the interests of sportsmanship, we ask all team captains to give full consideration before denying a request.

In the event that any player crashes from a match within the first 2 minutes, the match may be restarted. If a player crashes from a match after two minutes of play have elapsed, then the match must be continued.

All Inspiration types are allowed.

All temporary powers are allowed.

All Accolades are allowed.

[u]Level 40 Cruiserweight Specific Rules[u]
All IO's, HO's and Set Bonuses are allowed.

Each Match will last for 20 minutes.

[u]Level 21 Featherweight Specific Rules[u]
No Set Bonuses allowed. Your character should have nothing displayed on the set bonus screen.

Only characters between levels 14 and 21 may take part.

Each match will last for 10 minutes.

[u]Prizes[u]
To be announced, and will be dependent on the number of teams who enter (more teams = better prizes ). Possibilities include:

* Definite: In-game title (unless participation is high, this will be temporary)
* Definite: Forum title (permanent)
* Almost Definite: Guaranteed Aion Exclusive Preview Event access (details will be announced later)
* Maybe: PPD costume power codes
* Maybe: Signed CoV CE Art Books
* Maybe: CoV capes
* Maybe: CoH/V T-shirts

Prizes will be provided for a team of 5. In the event of substitutions being used by a winning team during the event, no additional prizes will be provided.

[u]New to PvP?[u]
Knight Stalker and others would welcome all and any new players to this event, and if you require any advice or guidance please feel free to PM him. This event will be maturely organised by Knight Stalker and Cherry Fusion, with support from the Community team. There will not be any put downs or I pwn u talk. It is hoped that each team leader would be a good sport and help out less experienced teams, and help motivate them to carry on with PvP in a losing situation. After all, we as PvPers only want to help to improve PvP and increase the size of our community.

[u]Need a Team?[u]
If you like the idea of this event but you don’t know anyone who plays PvP or you don’t know anyone in game to make a team with please PM Knight Stalker with the characters you are willing to play. He will put you in touch with teams looking for additional members.stration closes.

While I hope that these are now the definitive rules and won't need to be updated, please be aware that in the interests of keeping the event as fun as possible for everyone there may be some revisions required. We'll make sure to notify of any revisions as early as possible, and incorporate those into the rules above clearly.

Update: to give more teams time to form, and the Judges an extra week to recover from Leipzig, the dates for final registration and the first matches have both been moved back a week. These changes are in red in the original post above.

Are the matches once per week? Tried having a quick look through the thread but couldn't find anything.

Given that everyone will be there for the first week could we have multiple matches? 2-3 matches chould be done by about 10-10:30 which isnt too unreasonable given its a saturday night?

First week to meet up and meet all the rest of the teams. Then from then on one match a week. Ill explain more on the openning night.

Im sure quite a few students are entering and playing at uni isnt always straight forward and often not possible so if we could have say 2 matches a sat on the 6th, 13th, 20th would make it a lot easier, would also benefit the tournie to see progress quickly. I'm sure people generally preferred the way the Squished tournie worked where the excitement built quickly towards the final by having all matches in one night - this isnt really practical given the 20 minute matches but 2-3 matches a week will prevent it dragging like the Duel tournie did.

Then obviously the time scale of the tourney will depend on the number of teams that enter, As Phil stated some of us, as i'm sure some of the others too, will have uni commitments starting the week of 22nd Sep. Where playing will be impossible.

I know this shouldn't legislate for the way the tournament is scheduled, but i'm sure there are a lot of people in same boat.

I personally think that having a 2/3 matches in one night would add to the excitement of the tournament for everyone, specially if everyone has matches on the same night so people can observe others too.

Good rules nice prizes.Good luck to everyone participating.

I am also a bit concerned about the 1 fight only since this will drag the event pretty longterm and i think would be nice to consider have more matches during weekends.

Cant you just explain now instead, not explaining things like scheduling dosent add to the excitement.

Ya but for us students not friday and saturday nights after 8pm.

I totally agree 2 or 3 matches per week. I'm not going to be online after the 21st och september. Btw is the level 21 tournement built the same way 1 match per week?

Thanks for the constructive comment's there were a few things to consider also i had already thought about. I will consider your ideas and will have a chat with GR when i can.

The change to the dates is a real pian in the butt for me was off the 1st weekend the new weekend Im working on the sat and as I had no intrest in the lvl 40 I'm well and truly stuffed. Will have to get s sub strait away may have to get my son to play my account if the team wish to continue. We had all looked at the origanal dates and aimed for then so don't know how meny can make the new date.

1 question why split the events surly you can run some of both on sat and sun. This way you could go for round 1 on sat. round 2 and possably 3 to as not so meny teams will be involved.

I feel this will drag this out to much, getting it done faster will be best for players and there real life i dont want to start then find out that i cant make a match due to real life matters.

Also i think draging it out will only make for a more dull event have more fights per week to keep players awake

Posted

Would scheduling all the matches for the same weekend be a problem for people?

Posted

might be too much considering they're 20 minutes but 2 weekends might work out fine

Posted

One match a week isn't enough, it will drag on for ages, and if you leave explanations until opening night, chances are not many will listen/take it in. Seeing it all explained carefully, and written out on the forum for clarification is what we need.

eg Who arranges the matches, who goes 1st, will there be a rota made up and kept upto date so we know what is what?

Again. thanks for your ideas.

I cant give you any ideas untill registration has closed or untill more teams have entered. I am reviewing many options
I will get back to you at the earliest oppourtunity.

Personally I think there will be around 10 teams entering. If it's done using the method that was said in a previous thread then that would mean 5/6 matches? 6 matches at 20minutes each, is 2 hours of PvP. Not what i'd call obscene for one night, even spread it to Saturday/Sunday. One hour per night, giving plenty of time in between matches for a quick break or whatever.

Edit: never mind my maths, TG just pointed something out to me kindly

Going on the estimate of 10 teams entering there will be at least 17 matches with it being double elimination... Definitely too many to have in one weekend, 5 matches maybe?

CoH PvP SG = SuperUnion - Co-Leader - Union/Freedom
CoV PvP VG = Disruption - Co-Leader - Union/Freedom
Global = @Rent & @Rent.

Playgroup are all **** - Global Handle

Can't you at least give the explanations but with case scenarios attached? Like if 20 or more teams enter, this is what will happen, and likewise for 10 or under or something?

Seems everyone is holding off registering either until the final day of registration, or until we know more about what is going on, for me I know it's the latter.

I understand you have loads to sort out, same with GR, and we all appreciate the time you've put into this, but with not long left to go, I'd like to know what is what before I make my final decisions.

When i say the following please bear in mind i havent seeked GRs approval before i say any of this so may not happen but to give you guys a better idea.

I cant see any reason why we cant do more than one match on the evening. but its not as straight forwards as it seems. And it may take longer than i would of liked for one nights PvP. But saying that i need to speak with serval people before i can confirm.

Please bear with me i will get back to you.

Indeed I like the idea of several fights.
