IMO IO have only increased a players skill level and ability of making a good build better. All my toons i PvP with are IO'd.

Knight Stalker is old school. Been around since the beginning. If he says it sucks then it does and he should know because he was there. I know this because I was there too.
Then you should both be aware of what pvp used to be like and be able to turn up and have a fun night without too much trouble. Rather then making "clever" comments about an event that another player is trying to arrange
We both know what it was like and its impossible to go back due to the amount of changes to the game. What your suggesting is at best a recreation of the conditions of what it was like when people hardly knew anything about PvP. The no insp rule removes all skill in the selection, usage and countering of the use of insp. Probably to recreate the fact people didn't know when to use it. I might possibly enter with Enervator just so I can beat you by draining you completly of endurance then watching you slowly die from my weak attacks.
it takes no skill at all to pick insps. Thats just a lame excuse for people who use them. Any idiot can go to the store and buy insps, and any idiot can farm for inf and buy IO sets. A decent PvPer will know how to build a toon that doesnt need insps, or severely reduces the need for them.
All i hear nowadaays is people coming up with excuses for needing to use insps, and people who just farm all day to get inf to buy io's getting an ego where they actually dont have much pvp skill at all.
If you think you are good enough. put your money where your mouth is.
Would be a good idea if you did this on test as i doubt anyone would respec a IOd toon they have spent millions on it i know i wouldnt, and tbh most if not all the pvpers will be using IOs so will be a small turn out if any at all.
Arrange it for the test server and i would think about bringing my stalker and blaster over for ago.
Test was pretty much what i was thinking. Im leaning more toward Arena on test to avoid any unwanted intrusions by people who may have misread my first post and taken acception to something i never said.
It takes more skill to beat someone that uses insp than someone that doesn't. Controller uses holds and immob, everything gets held eventually. Fight over. End draining toons drain all end, enemy can't fight back. Easily defeated. Blasters with aim and build up easily beat scrappers that rely on defence. Where as with insp they have a better chance of actually fighting back.
How far back are we talking? People have been using inspirations for as long as I can remember (which is about a month before CoV came out).

Controllers only get holds if they survive enough. End drainers only get the end drain in if they stay upright and blasters have to survive long enough to get an attack off after aim and BU. stun a troller, defender or blaster and its game over. so it swings both ways. fight a blaster who uses BFs every second, phase shift and hibernate as soon as their hp gets low, any your basically just looking at target practise whenever the blaster feels like attacking.
Its quite simple, if you want a fun night of proper pvp against people who dont have to rely on insps or god powers and are there for a laugh then come along. If you are scared of being beaten and losing your reputation of being a good Pvper, then dont.
I think its sort of Thundorn's Perception. The good PvPers have always used insp and god mode powers. They have had no problem beating other players that use them. Same with IOs. Defenders and Controllers are the most likely to get walked over in a FFA as they have the lowest health and no defence or resistance, everyone goes for them and its less about skill and more luck as to who gets the last hit. If it was a dual tournament they would have a chance.
So come along to the event and prove me wrong. Prove that you have the ability to fight without using them.
You'll get proved wrong even if i'm not there. I've done this sort of thing before and i know there is no skill in beating people that are helpless due to being stunned, held, confused, end drained, slowed, debuffed, outnumbered, immobilised or even teleported.
Sounds like an excuse to me. Dont need to turn up if your worried youll get killed. The event isnt an argument about which is better. If you read my original post properly, you would see that. Its a chance for people to have a laugh and enjoy a good fight. Level the playing field for those players who cant afford all the IO's and remove the Phase shifting hibern00b culture that has started.
I know what pvp used to be like as well. You only have 2 issues on me so its not like i wasnt there. People used to get flamed out of zones for using insps and god powers. I dont condone that in any way, however, as PvP currently stands, unless you have robbed a build off the US forums and have the inf to actually make the build, you dont stand much chance in PvP at the moment. I see poor people trying to get into pvp, and just getting ganked by supposed "elite" all the time. Half the people i speak to wont pvp because they tried it once, got ganked by people who've been doing it for ages, and then had to listen to pathetic "hah i pwned j00".
As ive said already, if you dont want to turn up, dont turn up. I'd rather spend a night in the arena with 5 people who are up for a laugh and a bit of a challenge, the 20 people whining about not being able to use Elude or phase shift.
I feel this event will struggle to go ahead. Simple for the reasons Stryker has said.
The game and the players have moved on from SOs. Most people start IOing from lvl 35+ and dont really bother that much with SO's saves costs in the long run.

If you hadnt realised why inspirations where part of the game is to BALANCE out ATs and Powers.
No matter how you look at it Insps were designed to be used.
Im not trying to affend anyone. In my personal experience of organising PvP events disallowing poeple to use powers and insp is doomed to faliure.
Oh don't get me wrong, i'm turning up. Just not on anything that has no resistance or mez protection. Eg my Tank or Brute. I know how to get cheap kills and i'm good at timing the last hit so i get the point. I think your view of PvP is severely messed up though as all the good PvPers i know built their toons from the ground up and pioneered a few things. EU PvP is slightly different to US in the AT, build and power set areas. Also the US play completly different in terms of team setup. 2 issues is a long time.
Imo, insps balance the game and make it more about skill, as I think the others have tried to point out.
Been to nights like this before and everyone just takes a toon with mez resist. Tank, brute and scrapper fests are not my idea of fun, but each to their own.
I applaud your attempt to increase pvp activity though.

I am not one to be normally baited into this type of response, or to condone doing it but i cant help but say "cry moar plz". I think we just have to accept PvP has moved on as a whole and imo for the better, If people want to spend all there time farming for money to make there character as good as they can, gg them, people who put more time and effort into something should reap the rewards, i embrace it, means i get to fight challenging people and learn from them ect
But its great people like thundorn are trying to increase PvP activity.

With the inventions system, and the evolution of player base etc etc, PvP has become less about player skill and build ability, and more about who can afford the most IO sets and who can pop teh most inspitrations. BEFORE people get on their boxes and start screaming at me, im not having a go at anyone. I am however suggesting that in order to really put peoples SKILL to test, something more interesting might be fun.
I want to therefore arrange an old school PvP night. Might be in arena or might be in WB, depends on how many people are interested.
Rules are simple, No inspirations, No God powers, SO'd toons only. I wont plan it in for a few weeks yet so people have plenty of time to either lvl a new toon or respec a current one. This will be a free for all, so teams wont be taking part.
I suspect that a lot of people will moan at me for suggesting such a thing, but to be quite honest, Im not interested in hearing peoples arguments. All i have to say is, if you think your good at PvP, put your money where your mouth is and prove it. I know that people will turn up with the intention of teaming and then just one person taking the win, it always happens in a FFA, but if that happens, im sure ill think of a suitable penalty.
P.S God modes also include phase shift, in this case so dont bother picking it up.
This event has the potential to be really fun so i hope to get lots of interest.
