Canon, Fudge & Doing It You're Way.

what if it wasn't an opinion on the rikti, and these people claimed that it was the truth.... such as a hero or villain from another planet who was attacked by the rikti as cut through the galaxy on their way to attack earth?
because... you know... i seen that in a bio before.....

So have I. And I wanted to correct the player. But I simply assume that the character is lying, or twisting things to their own ends to acheive a certain result IC. And that's cool. As long as they're prepared for a large number of people to say "Umm, hang on a minute, we all know that the Rikti didn't attack Earth that way... something's not right here..."
The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise. ; Techbot_Alpha: Also, what Shadowe said. It seems he is still somewhat wise ; Bull Throttle: Shadowe was unwise in this instance...; Rock_Powerfist: in this instance Shadowe is wise.; Techbot_Alpha: Shadowe is very wise *nods*; Zortel: *Quotable line about Shadowe being wise goes here.*

Deep... Very very deep.
Wrong too. A mans truth is whatever his wife/girlfriend tells him it is!

I feel the need to quote a car sticker:
I am in complete control of my life. Just don't tell my wife about it.

One thing i've been finding, recently, is that the devs have started filling in those gaps, and it's a bit worrying for people who've already tried to plug them and now have a completely different, yet well established, working for it. What happens then?
Just interested to here the replies, no offence intended.

Well what happens is that since Issue X an alternative version of Statesman has been punching the edges of reality thus causing retcons throughout the universe.

Player C is obviously Wrong.
Player A and B are roleplaying characters without Omega level clearence or whatever Dark Watcher needs before he tells you the truth.
It's reasonable to assume said players A and B haven't discovered the truth after all there are liekly to be all sorts of theoryies about the Rikti floating around the general populas.

You see, I would feel the same way you do, Cactus. Because, although you haven't explicitly stated it, the canon material we have available to us says that Rikti are from another dimension. But we're not talking about what the characters believe - IC knowledge is always less than OOC knowledge - we're saying that the players themselves run their characters on the beliefs stated and, effectively, making up their own canon as to what rikti are. Even if the characters were shown irrevocable truth about the Rikti, because the players believe something different - or to their view of the game world things are different - it will make no difference. They are ignoring canonic data in a contradictory fashion. This will inevitably lead to friction. Better to step around canon or avoid crossing canonical territory than to state "Canon is wrong", which is what ignoring its existance is, as far as I can tell.
