Grav/Rad - Good or Bad?
Not missing anything. Everything goes well with Rad and Grav isn't an exception.
Think the main reason for the lact of guides is probably that Grav is probably one of the lesser used sets.
If you have any specific questions I'll gladly try and answer them.
SingStar:
"Extremists LOVE to fish to get us annoyed so we break the forum rules."
CRACK68:
"The origin of life wasn't planned either, should all life be declared a bug and wiped out?"
Lionsbane:
"You know me.Ever the realist"
Cheers, Archy.
As the alt levels I may well take you up on that offer from time to time.
I have just found an up to daye guide on the US boards which helped a bit so at least I know I am not making a big mistake no with the alt.
Lvl 50 Grav/Rad here.
No problems as far as I am concerned. Gravs wormhole is a general pain (worst AoE stun as far as I can see - although best "openener") but not a huge problem. The only other KB is Propel... and its not aproblem if you spam immobilise.
I suppose Singularity is the only other consideration. Its KB aura is a much underappreciated effect - and has helped me out a far few times by sitting under it. Sing dosent charge into melee unless you do (and even then usually holds back). But i suppose it does mean you may run into problems with Choking cloud. I didnt take it, but it IS a good power (its on my level 50 Rad defender but thats another story).
Not really a downside to Grav/Rad. It is probably one of the most "soloable" (but not "farmable") Controllers, and hence least "teamy" controllers, but any controller is always welcome in teams.
I am not a PvP'er, but Grav/Rad can be a mean controller in duelling PvP, due to its very high "burst" ST damage (propel) that sets it aside from other controllers.

Grav's immobs doesn't give the -kb as all other controller immobs do....it's holds does.

It's more a case of Rad being really good in duels + the insane amount of holds and immobs you and the Sing can spam.

Easy this: grav/rad = good
What?
Wormhole is made of win!
Silly billy. Worm/hole+AoE Immob = Second group hold

Plus its got a slightly longer duration than Flashfire. And no other AOE mez can be used to play "Fetch" with the scrappers.
"Go get it boy. Go get it. Thats a good boy"
Solo or on small teams its probably the best tactical AOE mez in the game. I love being able to TP enemy bosses solo. They don't come out stunned but with my Grav/TA they're Ice Arrow + Grav Distorted into a hold before they can even get back onto their feet.
Next thing you know he'll be saying Dimension Shift isn't any good (although I can see some bad synergy with Rad).
Grav - The tactical hold set
Actually I've never used Dimension Shift. I can see the tactical use of them occasionally (they'd be great again Carnie Master Illusionists to deal with that damned Pet spam) but I've never taken it. Well I pencilled it in on a Test PvP build before but never tried it out.
**Add's Carnifax to "the list"**
It's awesome! I've got mine six slotted (Grav/FF though so slots to spare ).
Perfect for mezzing or a panic button.
Can hit AVs (combined with ST version in FF for nice ability)
Requires team to pay attention though.
But between Worm, GDF, Crushing Field (with purple chance to hold), and Dimension Shift you can mez/control/reduce the enemie mobs damage potential hugely
Yay. I made the list.
What do I win?
Trust me. You'll get what's coming to you, and you'll never even see it coming.
Can I be on the list too please?
And for the record, I did try DS for a while, but I found it useless about 90% of the time. I have a grav/sonic which I mainly use for STF runs so I do use the single-target one on AVs/towers (and also have a hold proc slotted in Crushing Field which works nicely alongside the damage ones).
CoX 50s: <ill/rad> <ice/ice> <fire/kin> <grav/sonic> <ice/storm> <earth/kin> <kin/elec> <cold/psy> <thugs/dark> <fire/dark> <dark/elec> <night widow> <EM/ninj> <mind/icy>

Ooooh I can't wait. Is it a ninja stealth assassin of my very own? I'll hug him and kiss him and call him Mr Cuddlelumps.

Noooooooooooo. My prize. Mines! Horrids Okton trying to steals our prizes.
Ahem. Yep I'm with Okton on this one, its not that its terribly bad itself, its just very situational really, I've a hard enough time cramming all my other powers into my PvE build that something I might use once in a blue moon has to go.
If it was a timed toggle, like the Only Affects Self powers like Phase Shift it'd be much more handy.

I think sonic has a few more useful powers.
I admit my Grav/FF has powers/slots to hand (mainly cus he uses slot little from FF).
But you can be on the good list for having the awesome Crushing Field set up (3 damage procs, 1 -recharge, 1 hold and an Acc/Recharge in mine ), and using the ST version.

Only a accu/rech? Shame that with so little accu you miss so often that your dire dam procs are wasted let alone the usefullness of the power itself is rendered near useless...
And how you slot a enhancement a hold in an immobilize power?
Btw I've been thinking about making a grav/rad, but decided for an ice/rad. Me in the middle with AA+CC swinging gabriel's sledge hammer back to back with Jack whacking those RI+EF+LR debuffed mobs...

Well personally I use 4 Traps of the Hunter (including the dmg proc), 1 Impeded Swiftness dmg proc and the (purple) hold proc from Gravitational Anchor.
CoX 50s: <ill/rad> <ice/ice> <fire/kin> <grav/sonic> <ice/storm> <earth/kin> <kin/elec> <cold/psy> <thugs/dark> <fire/dark> <dark/elec> <night widow> <EM/ninj> <mind/icy>
3 damage procs (Smashing, lethal and Energy from memory)
1 -recharge proc
1 chance to hold proc (20-33% chance for each target! )
1 Acc/Recharge IO from a set.
With set bonus' it can hit enough times and is fireable every 5 secondish or so

I go with 3 damage PROCS, 1 -recharge PROC and 2 Acc/End IOs. I can't slot or afford the Purple one yet. The End is needed as its on my staminaless char
My Acc/Recharge is from the purple set, which is giving me 4% recovery bonus (due to having 2 purples in)
If you promise to take DimShift and tell people how great it is, maybe someone will buy you the purple
NOT ME THOUGH! HAHAHAHA

Cunning...
Its a pity I read the forums in Opera in plain text black and white and spotted your supposedly hidden disclaimer a mile off
Or...was I so cunning that I knew that, and had ANOTHER message hidden that you wont have seen yet?

Could be.
Either way I'll take Dimension Shift once they fix the Oil Slick pets bug, I'll be able to drop Teleport. At the moment I need it to heel stupid panicky Singy when he freaks out because I've set the area around him on fire.
Wouldn't hold my breath though (although you could if you liked )
Hold you breath?
Wont we have to do some weird CPR breath exchange?
That might bring up some conflicted feelings.
Soooo, just started a Grav Rad Controller. Checked out the Guides section for any useful info to help me and....... not a one.
Is this a bit of an awkward combo are there problems with the two that I have not considered?
I realise that a fair few of the Grav "attacks" can cause knockback which does not help with some of Rads Anchors but I would not think thats an insurmountable obstacle so, what am I missing?
